Do any of you know if either or these two bits are legal for dressage competition? I looked at the rulebook on the USDF web site and it appears they are but I'd like to get clarification.

The bit in the drawing on page DR26 is described as:

9. Straight bar snaffle. Permitted also with mullen mouth and with eggbutt

The Herm Sprenger Duo and Nathe are contoured bits; they are not straight bar mullen mouths.

So I still need to know if the bits posted originally are legal for dressage competition.

IMO, these are considered as straight. What they don't want are correction bits with ports or with shapes/ bumps on it.
But if really you are still worried, you should send those pictures to the USDF.

(don't Forget to write their answer here!!!! ;)

That's a great idea I just emailed USDF and will post the answer here.

Thank you!

Actually, it is the USEF not the USDF that regulates the rules.

I emailed USEF myself today and Jennifer Keeler in the USEF Dressage section did in fact confirm the H-S Duo Bit is LEGAL for USEF Dressage competition.
