So Im just started my 11 yo ottb back to work from basically not being ridden for any length of time since 10/07. My fault, nothing to do w/him. He had his hocks done in Nov/09 and I started him back w/walking and trotting. he is not mentally able to handle hacking out as a way to get him fit. we cantered a couple of times basically just to let him get some steam out. But he's predicatably sore. I was thinking of getting a shot of Legend for him once or twice (per month) to help him through the achy stage.
Has anyone done this? is it helpful?
Of course I will talk to the vet, especially since i dont do IV, but just curious about it.
No interest in Adequan at this point

Legend is never a bad idea in my opinion but I have a hard time figuring out why a horse who has been idle would be sore. I would want to answer that question before deciding any course of action.

Ask your vet - sounds like the horse may be more of a candidate for Adequan rather than Legend at this point. Plus, you can give it yourself (NO farm call)!
Some vets prefer Adequan anyway. Some prefer Legend. Some say that there is absolutely no difference between the two in the results observed after starting a horse on a course of one or the other. I guess it just depends on who you ask.
Also, of course you can't do this everyday, but you could always give a little Bute to get him through when he is sore the next day after a hard/harder workout. His soreness, if it is really just muscular soreness occuring after a hard workout, should only last for two to three weeks at most. Once he gets back in the swing of things, his soreness should go away.
