I have a few horses here that react to the combos like Equimax so I've always used TapeCare Plus to treat for tapes...what is going on with the manufacturer? Every place I try to order (Jeffers, Valley Vet, Smartpak), it is on indefinite backorder...what else can I use for tapes?

TapeCare is just a double dose of Strongid. So just order two tubes, or one of the double tubes (Exodus multi-dose I think).

or use ivemecting + praziquantal

praziquantal is more specific for tapes

...except the OP said she has horses who have reacted to Equimax ;)

What was the reaction to Equimax?

Yes, Tapecare Plus is just a conveniently package double dose (for a 1250lb horse, or is it 1500lb? whatever LOL) of pyrantel pamoate. It's more $$ to buy enough tubes for a double dose, and more paste, but that's your alternative.

sorry I dont pay attention to the miriad of trade names

active ingredient(s) is/are the only way to know what is being discussed.

double dose Pyrantal is your option.

I just make it a point to know which trade names contain which products :) Most people don't know chemicals, only the trade name, but it's a learning process :)

Really? I usually get the double-dose tube of Exodus (pyrantel pam) from Jeffers for $5.92. Apple flavored and cheaper than TapeCare plus. Although I also shoot Equimax in the fall for good measure.

OTOH, I'm just as curious as you are to hear what the reaction to the "combo wormer" was.

If it was a black tongue/mouth thingie, that's specific to Zimecterin Gold and would not happen to you with Equimax.

If it was some kind of itching or skin breakout with Equimax, you're about to have the most interesting afternoon of your life reading about neck threadworms.

And if it's neither of those, I'm dying to hear because I haven't yet heard of a horse reacting negatively to Equimax unless they had the sweet itch/neck threadworm thingie.

Oh wow, I had no idea Exodus had a "multi-dose" tube! Excellent, and yes, $5.29 IS cheaper than $7.99 :D I'll have to remember that! I'd still need a tube of the regular dose because my 1 horse at least is about 1350lb, and my mare is a wee bit more than 1200lb, though it's still cheaper this way.

I've used the multi-dose tube before on my draft crosses...word of warning-the diameter of the tube is HUGE and harder to handle when worming a less-than-cooperative horse, which is why I've paid the extra fro the TapeCare Plus...really, what is wrong with the manufacturer?

Or, you could squirt the appropriate amount into a more handle-able big syringe and squirt from there into horsie :D
