I have a choice between either Purina or Nutrena products.

I feed Purina Sr. to my old folks. I prefer a fixed formula feed but as I understand things, neither Purina nor Nutrena offer that.

I also fed Gro-Strong which is a forage based feed similiar to Safe-Choice.

I have the following horses:

Tyranna - age 7 - 17.1 hands, semi-easy keeper, TWH mare.

Denali - age 4 - 16.3 hands, eats a lot but is a large Oldenburg mare.

Bar Lita - age 28? - 15.1 hands - not hard keeper, not in poor health, no health problems at all, eats well, QH mare.

Dan - age 21 - 15.1 hands - not hard keeper, good health, eats well. TB gelding.

Bonnie - age 3 - 13.2 hands - ez keeper, pony mare.

Pumpkin - age 28 - 15.3 hands - ez, ez keeper. mule mare.

None have health problems or teeth issues.

I have one month's worth of ADM feed left but want to go ahead and begin mixing in a new feed so there are no upsets.

I haven't compared Purina nor Nutrena in many years, so for these equines, what is something that could be fed to the younger set? If I change to Nutrena, I believe they have a Sr. feed as well so could use their brand if I had to so as to not shop in two locations (one 15 miles away, the other in another direction 10 miles away).

Thanks - (and to top it off - my hay man just sent an email saying he was going out of the hay business and last year was his last year..sigh..now have to find a new hay provider that actually does analysis and knows what is in their hay).

I'd rather walk on glass with a fork in my eye.

I like Purina feeds. I think the minor changes that they make to the formulations keep my guys from getting bored. Our difficulty keeper who has allergies does well with the beet pulp based Omolene 400 (formerly Complete Advantage). The fat boys get a small amount of Omolene 100 or 400 mixed with about a pound of Nature's Essentials Enriched 12. My daughter's horse gets the Nature's Essentials vitamin and mineral supplement with a cup of Omolene 400.

Just my personal preference, but if I had to choose I'd go with Nutrena.

I prefer Purina, but I have no problem with Nutrena either. Just a personal preference what works well for my horses etc.

Progressive isn't sold here. Neither is Buckeye, Triple Crown or Seminole feeds. Only feed to choose from now is Nutrena and Purina.

I wish sometimes I lived where there were a lot of horse farms instead of subdivisions!

Sidepasser, we are using Purina Strategy and have been very pleased. Our crew have free choice hay and the Strategy lets us get more nutrient bang for the buck without stuffing them full of quarts of grain each day.
