Just curious when everyone is doing spring shots. Now? Is after Easter too late (2nd wk of spring?)
Last Fall my vet "skipped a few" since I wasn't showing and we always stayed at our small barn (5 horses). But now that I have my trailer and will be meeting up with others to trail ride, what should absolutely be included? I ALWAYS do Strangles as our old barn had it and, well, I just cannot NOT do it after seeing the results. My horse didn't get it and was vaccinated...so we still always do.

April 1st. We do EWE, Tetanus, Rabies, Flu/Rhino and West Nile Will do Potomac as well this year. Haven't decided on the strangles, but since it's intranasal and can cause abscesses if give at the same time as vaccinations, we do that separately.

I usually do mine mid-late March. In the spring I give West Nile, EWE, Tetanus, Flu/Rhino and Rabies. I also get my coggins done in the spring.
ETA: The AAEP defines the core vaccines as Rabies, EWE, Tetanus and West Nile, so you should give those as a minimum. Other vaccs such as Flu/Rhino, Strangles, PHF, etc. are risk-based according to your location. In our area I would definitely give Flu/Rhino, and you can ask your vet about giving any additional vaccines.

I gave the EWT West Nile combo this week. Next week will be potomac fever and rabies combo. The rest of them (strangles, flu/rhino) will be when I get around to doing them.

Be careful about the Strangles vax, talk to your vet about doing it as a routine vax...

The AAEP core vaccines are not influenced much by close exposure to other horses, so if your horse is on schedule with those there is no reason to vaccinate before 6 months just because you are going on a trail ride.
Rhino/flu antibodies don't persist for as long and probably are what the vet skipped since yours was in a closed herd so I would probably go ahead and get these at least 2 weeks prior to the first outing.
