It varies year to year for us. Sometimes we have a colt year and sometimes a filly year, but in the long run seems to work out to be 50/50.

I am also curious if these are fresh chilled results or are people including frozen. I have only used frozen 1 time and resulted in a colt. My fresh is 50/50

2003- 2 colts, 2 fillies
2004- 1 colt, 1 filly
2005- 2 colts, 2 fillies
2006- 1 colt
2007- all live cover (1 colt, 3 fillies)
2008- 4 colts, 2 fillies
2009- 1 colt, 2 fillies

Did not even attempt to figure out all the ponies... that would take forever!

So for AI : 11 colts, 9 fillies

if you include the year of LC 12 colts, 12 fillies!!

I have not used frozen.
I have used a good repro vet, pregnancies usually with one AI, and I lean strongly to more colts over 20 years.

2001 - colt
2003 - filly
2004 - filly
2006 - 2 colts, 2 fillies
2007 - 3 fillies
2008 - 1 colt, 1 filly (plus 2 colts by frozen)
2009 - 4 colts

Ooops, after I counted I realized we're 50/50 also. :) I thought we had more fillies since we had a couple years of fillies. LOL

I don't have access to the breeding records from the 70's & 80's. We started doing AI in the early 80's FWIW but still live covered some of our mares here on the farm until the mid 90's.
All plain text foals were AI.
Frozen are in caps.
* - Live cover.

1991 - 1 filly*
1994 - 1 colt*
1995 - 1 colt*
1996 - 2 colts*, 1 filly*
1997 - 1 colt*, 2 fillies*
1999 - 2 fillies*
2001 - 1 filly, 2 colts*, 1 filly*
2002 - 1 filly*
2004 - 2 fillies*, 3 COLTS
2006 - 1 COLT, 1 colt, 4 fillies
2007 - 1 FILLY, 2 COLTS, 3 colts, 1 filly
2008 - 1 FILLY, 1 COLT, 1 filly, 1 colt
2009 - 1 FILLY, 1 COLT, 2 colts

As an aside, we had a Volturno daughter born in 1983 from a frozen semen breeding. She had a full brother born in '82. Both were bred here in PA.

I was activlely breeding from 1988-2004.

By AI: 50/50. Of those, 80% were using frozen semen.

BTW, prior to AI (live cover) the stats were also 50/50.

That was fun. Never did the stats until this thread..:)

I have had about 17 foals, only 2 of them have been colts. I hope it continues!!

It feels lime I have been doing this forever, but since I bought my stock as youngsters, the timeframe has been prolonged by at least 3 years. I have only used fresh AI and my results are 8:3 in favor of the girls. And I love my girls! :) Peg

One year I used frozen and had 2/3 fillies, then i had only 1 foal and that was a filly, I used frozen again last year and had 3/4 colts.

I guess over all it comes to 50/50

this will be my forst year using chilled semen or warm fresh semen.
