Hi, I have a 1yr. old colt sired by Ironman and out of a thoroughbred percheron mare. I would like to take him to get inspected for the American Warmblood or RSPI. Which one should I choose and why? Can anyone help me out with this? Thank you so much for you time. deann@litewire.net

What is the mare registered/approved?

I have a yearling that I was unable to present as a weanling. The filly is by Raffaello out of a RPSI approved TB mare. So I will be taking her to RPSI this year. I was told I need to have DNA done on her. If your mare is approved with both you could take your pick, I believe in RPSI that foal would only be able to be in book II because of the percheron breeding in the dam. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken. Maybe you'd be better to go AWR although I have never delt with them myself I understand they incorporate draft crosses into their registry. Hope this helps at least a little, good luck!

We presented a yearling to RPSI. They don't give yearlings a score like they do when a weanling is presented, though (realizing that often yearlings aren't in their 'prettiest' phase ). He just got branded and we got papers for him.
Not sure about eligibility with the perch in there for RPSI, but I think AWR doesn't register draft crosses anymore - you'll probably have to go with AWS. Definitely call the registries to find out for sure what your options are.

The AWS would be happy to inspect and score your yearling. He will be eligible for full registration and branding. Yearlings often do not score as well as we would like ( in the awkward stages,,,) but it is a good experience for your baby. Go for it:D!
