I am considering breeding a nice 3 year old TB mare that I have raised. She is very well bred in California racing circles, but I don't want her to run. I am leaning towards breeding her to Balta Czar but wanted to know more about him. What are his best/worst qualities? I am looking for a good all around horse that will eventually do the AA jumpers. Any other suggestions on stallions?

What you are virtually guaranteed to get with Balta'Czar:
Gorgeous, typey foal with a very laidback, gentle temperament, a nice walk and canter and a cute jump (assuming the mare doesn't jump like a drunk camel). Strong topline and excellent, solid loin connection and hind end. Bling.
What you may or may not get:
A good trot, an extremely scopey jump. Height. He will not necessarily add substance to a TB mare if she is very refined to begin with, but he will likely improve her topline and hind end.
Unlike some others on this board who think the sires of their foals are the end all be all, I am telling it how I see it. I am beyond thrilled with my Balta'Czar 2-yr old but I certainly don't think he's perfect. http://sports.webshots.com/album/563722630UXDbeM?start=24
That said, I trust BC's prepotency so much that I am breeding my new (maiden) mare to him this year.
Good luck! You should post pics of your mare!

Denver, I would be interested in knowing what you are breeding for, what are you looking to improve on your mare and exactly what her pedigree is?
In my own experience in BC, I crossed him with a TB mare (also from racing bloodlines) who is very refined, has a good shoulder and neck, nice topline and ok movement, but not very good hind end and bit of a hot temperament.
What I got is a very nice hunter type, refined (no bling for me), very nice shoulder, neck and topline, good hind end, extremely nice temperament and very nice movement (scoring upto 78 with USDF judges). She started off smaller, as dam was maiden but is finishing at 16.1. Pics of her when she was younger are here: http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/kk320/winsmorefarm/Balta%20Rhee/?albumview=slideshow
I have more pics of her, just haven't uploaded them.
As an individual horse - I can't say enough about him. My kids have almost grown up with him (before they moved to KY). He is truly a special horse and gives 110% of anything that you ask of him. I plan to breed to him again, but as I own a sister of his, a daughter and a nephew - I have to wait for my other mare (who is currently leased out) to return.
I would also recommend contacting Jump Start Farm (if you haven't already) and speaking with Saret. She's great to work with and is truly gifted at matching bloodlines and honestly helping you decide on a match for your mare.

I would ditto the above. I have talked to Saret several times over the phone and was impressed with her. I think you would find her helpful.

Here's a link for easier to read pedigree:

Interesting pedigree.
Again though, I would highly recommend contacting Saret about breeding your mare and need assistance with identifying strengths and not so strong points regarding your mare (as you haven't specified here) and take some clear conformatin pics (don't have to be professional) to send as well.
Balta Czar is most definately a worthy stallion to breed to, but even the most prepotent stallion can only do so much and then it really becomes more about finding a good match for your mare.

We have breed to Balta Czar a few times to the same mare. Unfortunately when we breed to him last year Summer Day did not take. That was a bummer. Both foals have a lot of chrome and a nice jump. One Balta Czar foal, Helios, took after the dam, Summers Day, and the other foal, Indian Summer, took after Balta Czar. See both of them on our web site: www.serenityfarmsinc.com Both of them have nice walks and canters. When Summer Day was breed to Torino she produced Equinox, our stallion. Equinox has a better trot then the Balta Czar foals (Helios and Indian Summer) but still the nice walk and canter. Equinox also has an incredible jump. We still have Indian Summer but Helios found a new home and his new owner adores him. See Equinox, Helios and Indian Summer at www.serenityfarmsinc.com

As the owner of a rising 3 yo Balta Czar filly out of a TB dam- I can tell you that BC is a great choice for calming down temperamental TBs. That was one of my reasons for breeding to him. Do not count on the "bling" however. My filly's mother had lot's of white, as does BC, and my filly came out with almost none!!!! She is very sweet and very pretty though, with a lovely trot (but that came from her mother) and recieved silver premium RPSI status. Unfortunately she was injured as a yearling and now has resulting arthritis in her fetlock joint. So much for a career as a performance horse. I am looking forward to breeding her this year!
