Coming 5 yr old Westfalen mare, maiden, orphaned at 2 weeks old. Got the birth alarm call at 6:15 PM, had some contractions for about 20 mins spaced apart, then started eating hay. Came up to grab a quick bite to eat. Will update with results.

8:15 still no progress. Took a 2 HR nap standing up. Eating hay as we speak. She would have to be the difficult one.

So seems to have been a false alarm. Perhaps the baby positioning itself. We really thought she was in labor around 6:15PM. Swollen elongated vulva, breathing hard, seeming contractions, etc. Then nothing. Leaving her in the stall for today, hope she has it during the day.

Maybe she's waiting for privacy! LOL my mare was in labor for almost 24 hours until she couldnt stand it anymore. I think she was waiting for me to leave, which I didn't do, but the crowd that had gathered did, and then she had her foal! Lost most of her colostrum too btw, MARES!

Well, nothing last night obviously. Checked her milk today, white, good sign. Straight to 5 squares on Predict-A-Foal test, and had some wax. Tail head nice and soft, and long vulva. Here's hoping for any early baby. Today is day 349...

Gave birth at 11:15PM. Baby on her feet at 12:10AM. Beautiful bay filly with a star and a detached stripe. Absolutely gorgeous. My first baby personally. Leggy, BIG. Had a bit of a hard time with the head and shoulders, but the birth went smoothly. Pics to follow soon.

Congrats to you and Momma. You are now officially hooked, and will forever be searching for this high every year. The mere thought of the sleepless nights and anxiety will invigorate you with anticipation. You can not be saved you are doomed to be a breeder from this point out.
Welcome aboard!

God I'm exhausted. Filly nursed around 2AM so we came up to bed. Pic links as follows:

I can't believe how good of a mom the mare's being. Makes me very happy, as I said, she's an orphan and we were a bit concerned about her. Delivery went pretty quick, both my wife and I had to help her pull it out, filly has a BIG head.

She's got legs that go on FOREVER! Looks like she'll be a tall girl, I LOVE her face marking! Congrats!!
Who's her daddy??

I know, those legs are unbelievable. She's gonna be a big girl, just like mom. Daddy is ES Bonheur (Brentano II x Roncalli). Mom is by Rousseau, out of a mare by Dinard L, also has Rubinstein on mom's side about 2 generations back.

I can't believe the marking on your filly's head. I had a bay colt born at approx. 11:40 pm on the 21 and the markings on the face are very almost identical.
