Just noticed my guy has this white almost mushroomy looking growth in one of his ears. Most of it came off easily enough but the skin underneath was pink and raw looking. Anyone know what this stuff is and what I can put on it? thanks!

My guess would be aural plaques. My mare has them also and I have read that a cream called Dermafas is supposed to work. They say it can even make the skin go back to being black. I have just started using it not too long ago, so I cant really say if its working yet or not.....

I just googled aural plaques and that is exactly what it looks like. I'll be interested in hearing if the Dermafas works for you, please us updated.

I have always associated those plaques with irritation from insects, such as black flies. Horses in face and ear masks didn't seem to get them, that combined with the horses being inside days during fly season seemed to have avoided the problem.

Hi... my name is Tricia and I'm a Dermafas-a-holic.

We've been using it as a skin conditioner since November 2004 on our horse that was badly burned in a fire (hair burned off from topline to trace line on both sides as well as ears, top of neck and face). We used it once we moved beyond Silversulfa diazine as a treatment to keep skin moist and allow it to heal and to prevent infections. As far as I'm concerned... it worked.

We were turned on to the product by someone who had used it for their horse with Aural Placques. I've seen this horses ears pre and post Dermafas. We have another friend with a draftX size mule who also used it with good results. He's on their testimonials - Steve Luoni

That said I have heard it does not work in all cases, but since nothing else really works, it's worth a try.

Not paid for this endorsement. I just like the product a lot

Wow tricia those poor burn horses! I'm glad to hear they are doing better. I'm going to see if I can find the dermafas locally and also invest in a fly mask with ears to keep the flys from making it worse this spring. The weird thing is this just showed up and it's not exactly fly season but I guess it's some type of wart virus? So bizarre...

Dermafas worked for me on 2 horses. The skin went back to looking absolutely normal.
