I recently received a vet bill where the cost of a CBC done in-house is $125 per horse (egads!) Could you share with me what you have been charged for a CBC and your general location (perhaps the cost of vet care varies depending on where you are located to a certain extent)? Thanks for any info you can provide!

In FL (near Ocala), I believe I paid $104.50 for a CBC/chem in November, but I don't recall if it was performed in-house or shipped out to a lab. My guess would be in-house as it was from a relatively large practice. That did not include the farm call to draw the blood, however.

Just a straight CBC runs me $25-35 depending on vet. If I do a full chem panel it runs anywhere from $35-75 depending on vet. I have one vet that's awesome that charges me $42 for CBC and full chem panel. And her barn call isn't but $50 too. All of those prices are for vets to come out and don't include farm calls.

Was anything else included with the CBC (e.g., farm call, chemistry analysis, pathology report because the CBC was extremely abnormal)? Was a special courier needed or did they have to bring in an on call lab tech late at night because of an emergency? What was the situation that necessitated the CBC?

Last year I believe I paid about $60 for a full panel, not including the farm call and shots given at the same time...then the vet tried to charge me $32 for a five minute phone call about the results (nothing abnormal). Did get the phone call taken off the bill.

It sounds reasonable, especially if it were STAT ( our lab charges us $50 to run a stat panel)

CBCs are $49., and then you add on the visit charge (shared or otherwise) and it runs about $60-$70. Ours are done in-house.
