Appys and blue eyes

Do the blue eyes in an Appaloose mean anything special? I'm not sure of his lineage- they do not have papers or anything. He's just a fun little project!

No. Blue eyes just go with white markings over the eye.

There was just an article in Equus about blue eyes having a lot more problems, though.

Is he also a pinto? What is his base color?

In pintos with the frame pattern (I think) and a lot of white on the head, blue eyes can be associated with deafness. My pinto pony has blue eyes but NO white markings on her head. Her hearing is normal.

It's splash overo that's linked with deafness, not frame.

Not all the time. I've got plenty of photos of solid faced horses with blue eyes. Likewise bald faced horses where the white covers the eye area and the eye is brown.
