Hi everyone! I've never bought anything prescription online before, but I need to buy some more Adequan and I can get it online at a much better price than through my vet. Assuming that she will write me a prescription, which I think she will (I haven't gotten Rx through this specific vet before), what is the procedure as far as documentation for to the company (I think I'm going to use allivet.com)? I tried googling it, but I didn't come up with anything useful.
Mostly, I don't know if I need to place the order first then get the script, or submit the script via email to the company then buy the drugs, or what??
Thanks!

Usually they will require that the vet's office call in or fax in the prescription before they will complete the order. There is usually a number the vet's office can call or use to fax. It's not really your responsibility to get the Rx to the supplier, but a friendly heads-up to the vet's office, providing the relevant phone/fax number, is really helpful.
I always call the supplier, tell them I'm going to place an order, then have my vet's office fax or call in the Rx. Then I usually get an email confirming all is taken care of.
Or, frankly, sometimes I just call the Rx in myself. It's legal as far as I know since I have a medical license to prescribe. :uhoh: But I rarely give a horse Rx drugs without input from my vet, so this is rare.

I use KV Vet. You place your order and indicate what meds you want and the quantity. You provide your vet's contact info, and KV faxes your vet. Your vet then faxes back the Rx and KV fills the order and ships to you.
It's worked pretty well for me so far. :)

My vet simply called the Rx in to Allivet. You can also have them fax it in. You can place the order at any time, they just won't ship it until they get the Rx.

Some places are easy to deal with. My vet daughter says places like Smartpak, which have a designated phone line for vets calling in prescriptions, are easy. She can call in a prescription in seconds. She has had difficulty with a few companies that leave her on hold for a prolonged time. She doesn't have time for that. With those companies, she writes a written prescription for the client, and the client has to mail it in to the company themselves. That process takes longer than using a company that makes it easy for the vet to phone in prescriptions.

Deltawave, I think it is not legal for you to prescribe for the horses, depending on your state laws. My daughter says they were told in vet school that it is not legal for an MD to prescribe veterinary meds in VA. You can prescribe doxycycline for a human family member and have it end up in a horse, but it is probably better if you don't prescribe Adequan for your human family! In Virginia veterinarians are required to issue a prescription for veterinary meds if the client prefers a prescription rather than buying from the vet clinic.

I get my Adequan from www.farmvet.com. Just have your vet call it in.. right now they are having a sale on it too which I always like.
