Sorry to litter the list with ANOTHER Andean Exports thread, but I'm getting a little anxious about my saddle and not hearing anything from them in weeks.

I ordered mine during that big sale - I think the order went through on the 31st of December. Their website says 3-5 weeks shipping, and we're getting close to that 4-5 week period with nothing from them. Has anybody else ordered their from them during that time and gotten their saddle, or at least notification of the saddle? I'm getting a bit anxious....thanks!

eventer_mi,
I haven't received mine either, ordered mine on the 1st of Jan, right before the sale ended, I know that they have been reallly busy with the sale items, etc. I am wondering if maybe they are just behind in getting things processed. I know someone posted on here and she ordered around the same time as us and she wasn't expecting hers till the beginning of Feb.

I havn't gotten mine either. When I talked to them around the 1st they mentioned that all their saddlers had several weeks off for the holidays and they were making everything from scratch so I was to expect a longer delivery time.

I'm not too worried yet.

Haven't gotten mine either, ordered it 1/1, but I'm the one who had h8llacious problems with e-mails for 2 weeks and that delayed matters, so I understand mine's not even due to ship until mid-February.

Just a tip - there is something seriously wrong w/ the way their e-mail account is set up. If you are e-mailing them and not getting any response, try sending from another e-mail address (e.g. work http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif). When I was freaking out about not hearing from them, it turned out that they had been responding all along but I simply wasn't getting their responses. Fernie Fox had the same thing happen.

So try another e-mail addy. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Have they given you folks actual expected arrival dates.

They quoted me DEc24th.That was the day it arrived.Pretty good I thought.

Now on my replacement saddle they have NOT given me an expected arrival date.

They just said "Mid Feb." to me. Mine was a custom & of course they couldn't process it until they were able to get the drawings & measurements & I could get my questions answered. That's what took the 2 weeks.

I'm not surprised at the delays. Y'all have to remember that Christmas et all is their summer holidays, and that many of the kids and some of the adults don't go back to school/work until the end of January. I have a couple of Chilean and Argentine friends and they clued me in to this several years ago. Makes sense when someone explains it to you (duh!) but I can certainly understand your concerns (and anticipation!) of getting your lovely tack in a timely fashion. I'm a confirmed eBay junkie myself, so I'm needing to check out their stuff. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I spoke with the office yesterday. I was told that quality control had rejected a number of saddles and they were replacing them. The regulars had come in yesterday and were going out. I needed a wide and was told that it would be here by the end of this week or first part of next week. They were definitely hard to get ahold of. Apparently part of it was that they were waiting for news before sending off emails.

I have a friend who got one prior to Christmas and it passed her and her more picky husband's approval, which is the only reason I went ahead and ordered mine http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

IT'S HERE!!!

I never got an email saying it was shipped from Arizona, but I did get an email with the tracking number.

Girth: Roller buckles on both ends, with nice thick green elastic on one side. The side away from the horse has a single piece of leather with a light pimply look to it although it is smooth. The side to the horse is very soft and squishy, padded with foam or something. Looks like it'll be easier to clean. Bright white stitches, very even and uniform. The girth is curved/shaped. The leather piece on top has finished edges.

Leathers: I got the thinner/cheaper leathers. Even brown double rows of stitching down both sides of the leathers. Smooth leather but not buttery soft. Numbered holes. Nylon lined the entire length of the leathers, with the holes melted and finished, you can't see any nylon on the outside.

Both are a very dark havanna color, which matches my saddle.

This is all extremely strange. First of all, I got the same email y'all seemed to have gotten - the one saying that the saddle has been shipped with the UPS tracking number. Then, I recently got another email from UPS saying that my saddle should arrive here by this Friday the 13th. Now, I just got an email from Andean Exports saying that the saddle has shipped TODAY, and it won't get here for another 4-5 days. So....which is it?

i'm a little bit frustrated, due to the inconsistency of the email responses and the fact that it's been over 5 weeks since their stated ship time on their website. Oh, and apparently they're shipping me an extra-wide tree, when I requested a wide?!?!?

I was very pleased with my items. They would even have been a good deal at full price. Very nice finishing work on the girth.

My saddle is a very dark havanna, and the girth and leathers came pretty close to matching it. My saddle is a bit reddish from years of cleaning but it isn't a noticable difference.

The leathers a thin and flexible, looks like they wont be bulky under my thigh.

Here is some correspondance I had with Andean regarding the same issue.

My statement:

"Once again, thanks for replying so quickly. However, I went the UPS website and tracked the number you gave me, but it only states that the billing info was received, no pick up yet.. Maybe the package wasn't ready in time yesterday...?"

I'm pretty frustrated with Andean Exports now. I got that same email directly from them, saying that it was shipped and to expect it in 4-5 days. Well, it's two days later and I tried to track it and it STILL says something along the lines of "billing info was received, no pick up yet".

So, where is the d*mn thing? Why do they continually tease us like this? They can be as sweet as pie via email, but I lose faith in them the more emails I get stating that my tack has been shipped, but apparently they cannot seem to get the shipment TO UPS.

I'm pretty upset, and regretting that I bought anything from them at all.

The problem with the tracking numbers is NOT just with Andean Imports. I orderd a Vermont Teddy Bear for my husband for Valentine's Day. Vt Teddy Bear sent me a tracking number. When I went to the UPS site, I kept getting the same message you guys are getting. My package arrived today and I was still getting that message this morning after it was delivered (didn't get a chance to check it again this evening).

Anyways, it looks like the problem with the tracking numbers is a UPS problem as opposed to a problem with Andean Imports.

I ordered my saddle, girth and leathers end of January. Paid for them 2/3 and got the tracking number last night. I checked it last night and it wasn't valid or something but when I checked it today it came up with a delivery date of the 18th!! Woo Hooo!! But, my concern is it said the package was 4 lbs??? Maybe it's just an error...I can't imagine they would send each item seperately. I'll update on Wed. if I recieve it then!

Maybe because you guys had custom stuff or bought during that big sale there is a delay. I think this is pretty quick shipping (we'll see if it really does come!) but I ordered a stock saddle.

I ordered an 18" Passion (the chestnut color) with a wide tree (for my hubby). They apparently are sending me an extra-wide tree, according to the email! I hope that the difference isn't huge.

nora1611 - they might be sending you the girth and leather separately, due to the quality control problem someone else mentioned earlier in this thread? My saddle weight is listed at 15 pounds, and that includes bridle and leathers.

Oh bummer! I was really hoping to get that saddle http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/cry.gif That's ok...I can report on the girth and leathers at least.

I ordered the passion also but I believe they call it the Passion II. It has the velcro blocks and is a chocolate color. I'll be interested to see how our saddles compare!

Squish - be happy they're sending it USPS. I requested that they send my saddles that way as every time I have had ANYTHING sent up via UPS I end up with an INSANE customs charge PLUS they charge around $25-$35 dollars for filling out a customs form!! My sister ordered a sweatshirt from the States for her husband as a Christmas gift, Shirt $50, duty was about $10 but the fee for UPS for doing a form $35USD!!!!

Ok, so I'm having a blonde moment....the tracking number I spoke of in my above post was for something else I bought on ebay http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif That's why it was only 4lbs. Duh! I just saw the confirmation and assumed it was my saddle.

Still no saddle but I'm not worried yet because it sounds like others have waited a lot longer.

This is maddening. I KNOW most saddles that are "custom" take around 6-8 weeks for delivery, if not longer. However...."custom", to me, means special changes, like a longer flap, different knee rolls, stuffed to your specifications, etc. etc. etc. "Custom" does NOT mean that you happened to order a tree size different than medium. I realize that these are hand-made. So are MOST of the saddles in the world! What is taking so freakin' long?

I also got an email saying that it was shipped already from Andean Exports in Arizona. That was on the 11th. Still no tracking information. Still no response via email explaining this all. Custom service means nothing if you don't back up your promises. I am very disappointed with Andean Exports, and will continue to be so until they can provide me with a satisfactory explanation, or a full refund.

Well.. I tracked the package from the time the saddle shipment including mine was sent from Argentina. They arrived on the 10th according to UPS (1Z7V06286885010710). So I'm not sure if the story about the saddles arriving later than they expected is really true. Maybe it is for another group of saddles. I got an email on the 11th saying that my saddle was sent on the 10th (billing information received); so far, that status hasn't changed.

So what gives? I'm SO frustrated that they can't reply to my emails to them. It's not a problem with the school's email server where I work. They've never mentioned having problems replying to my emails. When they reply to them.

SO frustrated. I really wanted to give them a chance and I've got several people waiting to see what my saddle looks like before they're willing to order anything.

I don't know how to post the email here they sent me, but my last post was basically the crux of what I had been told. If in fact they do ship UPS from Phoenix this week, we should all have them within the next 5 days, one would think.

The latest word (received last night):

'Hi Rachel,

Thanks once again for your patience, it is greatly
appreciated.Â* Your shipment was either shipped out to
you from Phoenix today, or will be shipped out
tomorrow, and you should receive your item in 4-7
business days.Â*Â*

Unfortunately, much of the current problem is beyond
our control. We are still a new business and are
working hard to smooth out our proccesses.

If we were to ship directly from Argentina to the
customer, shipping would be about $110 per saddle,
plus customs fees. Instead, we ship to our facility in
Arizona, and then to the customer. When we create the
UPS labels, UPS sends an email to the customer.
However, that does not mean the item has been shipped.
It only means that we have created the label. This
time we did that the day the crate was supposed to
arrive from Argentina - Tuesday. It arrived on Friday.
So 140 customers like you have been waiting since
Tuesday with UPS tracking numbers. I have received
more than 400 emails since then asking about this same
issue and it is impossible to stay on top of them and
still help the people in Phoenix to get the shipment
out.

Once again, we really appreciate your patience in this
matter, and please feel free to pass the information
here along to fellow "COTHers" who are having similar
anxieties.

Kind regards,

Angelique'

Rachel - I basically received the same information you did. However....that does NOT explain why I received an email from them (in addition to the one I got from UPS) stating that my package would be here on the 13th of February. They seem to be making promises that they cannot keep.

Well, I hope that once I get my saddle (to be delivered on the 20th, now), I will be so pleased with the merchandise that Andean Exports will redeem themselves in my eyes. If not, anybody want an 18" wide tree Passion? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Y'all need to chill.

I think that you are blaming Andean unfairly for what - let's face it - are US Customs (the person who had a shipment sent back) and UPS screwups. I trust UPS not one single whit after they took six months to settle having driven a forklift through an $80,000 cello, their own inspectors having admitted 3 days in that it was clearly and completely their fault. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

So why don't you try rattling UPS' cage???

Because, WA, I keep getting conflicting stories from Andean Exports. If you say you'll be delivering the saddle on the 13th, then I expect it on the 14th. After failing to deliver, they also failed to inform me that it would take much longer than they originally thought. It's the promises made and not kept that make me angry. If I knew right off the bat that they were having issues with customs and would notify me when the saddle actually left their hands and was en route to me, it would be a different story. However, they kept on giving me different dates and I have yet to see this thing. This is my hubby's saddle and he doesn't have a thing to ride in until it reaches us. They promise on the website 3-5 weeks for shipping. I don't have a problem with that. It's now 7 weeks and counting, and still no merchandise. I really think that they need to revamp their shipping policies, or at the very least improve their communication skills so that we are not left with promises that cannot be met. In any other business, this would be considered unacceptable - why should this be any different?

Like I said, I'm hoping that I'll be so pleased with the saddle that all this will go by the wayside. But I doubt I'll order another thing from them, until I have proof that their shipping policy has improved.

Here's why I am convinced that this is a UPS problem:

Because I just had the exact same thing happen with SmartPak Equine. I placed an order with them on 1/9 which was supposed to go out overnight. It has been hung up in the UPS system with the "electronic billing information received" message ever since then. Mind you, SmartPak has long since made good on it - but I happened to call their rep for something else and asked them to check it, and yuppers, that order is still sitting there in the UPS tracking system!

WA - you're right. My only beef is that they didn't communicate the situation... then again how much can I REALLY expect them to keep me informed if they're not in the country and there're 140 saddles in just that shipment alone?

I want to think I'm a princess and everyone loves me, of course, and would go out of their way to let me know of problems before *I* know there's a problem, but, well... I'm not.

UPS does suck, though... I've had many deliveries lost, put the wrong places, and assorted things gone wrong that I really shouldn't be surprised. I'd be crushed about the cello, though...

Squish, yep, I ordered mine during the sale in December. And I agree with you on the color! It's a great color... From what the web page says, our saddles were made from different makers.. So they may be a bit different in the production. I can't wait to hear about yours!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

War Admiral.. That's great news.. Ya know, I was so anxious yesterday to get my saddle! It was pouring rain, and I got home at 4pm. The UPS tracking system said that it was out for delivery, but still no package. Then, at 4:30, I see a UPS truck pull in front of my neighbors place. Of course, I'm assuming they are bringing my saddle, but nope, they dropped off a package for them and left!!! Talk about a teaser!!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif So I call UPS, and they said that they have till 7pm to deliver, and most likely my saddle was in a different truck. 7pm rolls by, still no saddle... (keep in mind its pouring, and San Diegan's can't drive in the rain, so traffic was horrific!!) So I call UPS again, and I'm talking to the lady, and then the doorbell rang!! I was like "oh, its hear, sorry!!!" It showed up at 7:15pm.. So be patient tomorrow.. I know I had to be!!

Oh, and for the record, I've decided that UPS was really the one behind the shipping errors... ASC made the mistake of trusting their records, and made those labels.. and I think they've learned from it...

Is your saddle the Galicia? Also, keep in mind that the Passion is made St. Lourdes, and the Galicia is made by ASC. The Passion seems a little fancier, with the fancy leather keeper, and the name Passion engraved on the flap, where as the Galicia doesn't even have a noticable emblem on it.. Your right though, it does look similer to the Passion...

Well, the problem I have with the company is that I apparently got a different story in that a shipment of saddles failed quality control... as far as I know no one else has heard that one. I've yet to receive anything other than the link to yahoo, which shows absolutely nothing beyond what it did on Jan. 4th. I was told on the 5th that it should be here last week or the first of this week... well, here it is the end of another week and no saddle yet. Since I've not received anything regarding UPS and I know that the saddle was sent back (or so they say) and I was not notified until *I* asked about it, that UPS wasn't too blame for that delay.

I emailed them yesterday asking for tracking information, but haven't heard back from them. I'll be calling tomorrow afternoon to gently ask about it yet again.

By the way, what type of Dressage saddle did you get? I got a flat saddle but was interested in a dressage saddle as well.

'boy -

I called UPS last night and found that my saddle is making a single trip from Phoenix to Chelmsford, so I've no idea where along the route it is currently! The agony! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I ordered the prestige, I think it was - the one from ASC rather than R&C. I'll let you know how it looks and rides when I finally (hopefully) get it. If you're not terribly far from the barn where I keep my horses (central MA not far from Worchester), you can check it out.

Well, I put a call into the office. Surprise, surprise, it's what 1pm in Arizona, but no one is available to answer the phones. It'll be interesting to see how long before someone returns my call. See they have a bunch of bridles up on ebay, but I don't want to wait 7+ weeks for a bridle... sheesh, I can't. I'll be into the show season by then :/

e-mailed them again yesterday and got a SECOND auto response thing from their account. i am getting fed up. i was confiriming that they did infact get my order since last time it didn't take nearly as long. we got the st. lourdes "all purpose" saddle. it looked a little top heavy in the pictures so i am hoping that is just in the angle that they were taken. i lov e the color of it and it doesn't have the normal "all purpose" cantal, but the same one as the close contact saddles. since all of Pony's tack is on the dark side, i figured I'd get the dark saddle...if i don't hear back from them though in 2 weeks, we are going thru paypal and going to attempt to get our money back from them.

alot of the problems are in fact out of there control. Once it leaves there building, they are at the hands of whatever shipping company is transporting. While the shipping may stink, from what I have heard the quality is very good. Its a new company, there are bound to be kinks, responding to 400 emails a day is virtually impossible and I will give them the benifit of the doubt. They have been SUPER with my little, er, shipping glitch and bent over backwords to fix it. One would think thay are expieriancing some angst over all this chaos as well. I will withold pointing fingers and know once I get the saddle, I have a bit of a wait for the bridle I ordered!

My saddle hasn't made it to Chelmsford yet, at least according to the website. I hope they (UPS) weren't giving me a bunch of hooey. If the saddle isn't here by Monday, then I'm all over them! Drummer - my horses are in Paxton, so if my saddle ever gets here you're more than welcome to come out.

The staff at Andean Exports is still out of the country and I'm not sure that they've got the best internet connection where-ever they are (Angelique mentioned this the last time she emailed me). So.. I'm not so sure that they're *able* to respond very quickly to individual emails - mostly spending time trying to put out fires and address the truly urgent emails.

A note to our customers about shipping and email issues:

In January and February of 2004 Andean Exports encountered some unexpected delays in shipping our products. We want to apologize to any of our customers who are being inconvenienced by these delays, and explain a bit about what happened and what steps we're taking to address the problem.

In January there were delays in production due to Argentine national holidays. We did not expect those delays to affect orders, but in some cases they did. We further experienced frustrations with how UPS issues tracking numbers. Because we ship in bulk to our US facility and then reship from there, the UPS tracking number doesn't reflect true shipment times. Our customers get a tracking number, but it doesn't calculate international shipping and customs, nor does it indicate that there is a 7-10 day time frame at that point to get the items to the US and then dropped to the individual addresses. We are working to correct that and are exploring options including moving our US facility to speed shipments.

In the meantime, shipments of saddles can take up to 6 weeks, or longer if you have a custom order. Please note that customs issues - of which we are not always apprised - can slow things down, also.

We are doing everything we can to speed the process, but because each of our saddles is handcrafted, it takes time for our saddlers to make your item to our quality specifications. We can ship saddles directly to you, but the cost (up to $110 to do so) is prohibitive in our view. So, while most orders ARE delivered in 5 weeks, sometimes it takes longer. If you need your items by a specific date, you may want to consider direct shipping options -- we'll be happy to provide a quote for the cost. Just contact us at <info@andeanexports.com> with any questions.

(One note: Right now we are in the midst of traveling and cannot access each email or order. We will respond very shortly, but if you could be patient we'd very much appreciate it!)

Andean Exports is a young, growing company committed to providing high quality items at value prices, but achieving that balance of quality and value sometimes takes more time than we would prefer. We will always strive to keep our customers as informed as possible and to make things right if you do encounter a problem. Your feedback is important to us, and we welcome customer input on our products and processes so we can continue to refine our company to deliver top quality value for your riding needs.

EMAIL notice

We have recently learned that some customers are not receiving the emails we are sending regarding questions and orders. Because of the volume of email Andean Exports receives and sends each day some servers and mail programs are flagging emails from the Andean Exports address as Spam or Bulk Mail.

If you have contacted us, please know that we are committed to responding to your request in 48 hours whenever possible, and in most cases in 8 - 24 hours. If there will be a delay in that timeframe, we send an auto-response with that information. However, we can't control how your mail processor files our messages.

If you have not received a response, please check your bulk or junk mail folders and mark our address to be accepted. This is particularly important for AOL and web-mail users and for those with spam blocker programs.

OK, I received most of the order today.

1. Stirrup leathers: they are fine for schooling. The leather is decent quality and the stitching is very good. However, I don't think they'd go to a horse show. (maybe a schooling show) For $25, I wouldn't expect they would.

2. Girth: craftsmanship is excellent. Quality of leather is above average. Could go to a horse show.

3. Girth with belly guard. Pretty much same as above.

4. Set of sheepskin boots. I was very impressed with the quality of the boots. An excellent value for the price. I paid around $50 for the set of four. I wish I'd bought two more sets.

5. The Passion close contact saddle. Again, the leather is ok, but the workmanship is great. I think it's a great value for the $250 that I paid for it.
With so many horses and a need for more inexpensive schooing saddles, this one gets an A+.

I'm still waiting on two more saddles due to arrive on Tuesday. I'll keep you posted.

Overall, I'll give Andean Exports an A+

Well, my shipment came in yesterday. Here are my observations:

1) Figure 8 bridle with the bit clips (brass) and reins. For only $50, VERY nice bridle! Sturdy leather that oiled up well, seems to have nice hardware. Not crazy about reins (leather with stops), but the price was worth the bridle alone.

2) Stirrup leathers. Very pleased with those, too. Nylon backed and nicely stitched - I disagree with Hidden Hill Farm - I could easily take these to a show (unless we bought different kind of leathers?). For around $25, I'm also happy with those.

3) St. Lourdes Saddlery - the Passion. Decent quality, but this saddle does not resemble the pictures at all! First of all, I ordered an 18" seat for my hubby. I measured the seat - it's barely 17.5". Also, this is NOT an extra-wide tree - I'd say it's more like medium-wide. The flaps are quite long for the seat size, and not nearly as forward as in the pictures on their website. I ordered this model specifically for the more-forward flap. THe knee roll is different on this saddle than the pics, and the nailhead says something like "American Patriot Saddlery", and the leather flap is stamped on the outside, "St. Lourdes Saddlery", NOT "Passion" like it shows in the pics. What gives? It's like I got the wrong saddle! So, I'm a bit disappointed with the saddle. Instead of losing $50 by shipping it back, I'm going to try and sell it for what I paid for it - $238 - around here, since it's not anything like what I expected.

I do wish I had bought a girth from them, though....but I probably won't buy another saddle.

Well, I'm working on week 8 now, so the assurances are a little weak to me. I had a show that I was going to try to have my gelding ready for, but was depending on this saddle to do it... so I'm now down 7 weeks, and doubt that I can have my gelding ready for the show... glad I hadn't registered for it yet.

I emailed on Thursday with no response yet and I phoned on Friday and no response. And now, if Eventer's extra-wide is only a med. wide, it's not looking good that my wide will fit my very wide gelding.

I doubt that I'll recommend this company to anyone in the future. :/

we got the set of boots for GOmez and HATE the front boots, they are SO stiff i will not put them on him without the thin eskadron polos underneath. but i LOVE the ankle boots and he wears them every day. any tips on trying to get this leather to soften? it is still SO stiff (got it jan 3rd and have used them every day). we are going to put roller things on the front boots to hopfully help with the putting them on bit (they get stuck easily because every part of the boot is STIFF!) awaiting my saddle...ordered it on Friday the 13th and the way it seems, i will not be getting it for awhile (how sad..) but then again i didn't get the "custom saddle" but got the already done one (16.5, regular tree). the only think i would reccomend to AE is that they have their items ready when they put them on ebay (except for the customs in which they are making, etc).

Even though its not the same saddle as in the picture - is it still comfortable? I dont need forward flaps so would it be suitable for me?
I also ordered a medium tree, but have a very narrow TB...I figured id have to pad it up well but it sounds as these saddles are made on the narrow side. I also ordered a 17.5 and my others are a 17' and fit fine....SOOOOO sounds like im in luck (I hope).

Sort of changed my mind after the first ride....the saddle is surprisingly comfortable. Furthermore, Miles seems to be VERY happy in it - we had the best canter work I've ever had! So good, in fact, that I'm seriously contemplating riding in this saddle in the dressage show this weekend, instead of my dressage saddle. I still wish that it had a more forward flap, like in the picture, and wish the flap wasn't quite so long, but it rode pretty well. It's a very flat saddle - not like the Bates Caprilli that I just sold, or like any of the French models. I'm considering keeping this around, as a bum-around saddle.

Squish - if you normally take a 17", then I think this might be perfect for you! I don't know if the saddle is mismarked or that they measure in a different way, but from nailhead to cantle measures just under 17.5" for me, but it's marked 18". So, it might work out perfectly for you. Also, I think that they DO run narrow - you probably lucked out on both counts.

Hey gang, I tried my saddle yesterday and was blown away by how comfy it was! It also set me up quite nice in the saddle, so the design is definately good. The only complaint I have is that the nylon lined leathers scratched the cheaper leather on the flap... I'll oil it tonight and see how it fairs, but I don't think the nylon on the leathers is safe for the saddle.. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif But, all in all, I really enjoyed riding in my saddle! GOT MINE THIS A.M.!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

...And I have to say, for the price ($190) I never, ever expected anything this good.

I got the ASC Pampa model in 18.5 (after reading that they run small... I normally take an 18 or in some models like Kieffer I can do a 17.5) with a custom narrow tree for my shark-fin-withered TB.

The skirts are pigskin but nonetheless they are amazingly soft and the seat looks as if it will be very comfy. Stitching is good quality. I don't think there will be much break-in time with this.

The only open question is, will it fit my horse? I won't be able to find out until late tonight - I'm at work. It doesn't look as if it absolutely will not, but neither does it look as if it absolutely will.

All the same, have to say that this was an amazing deal for the money. Just amazing.

OK, so we have someone who got their Pampa, Galicia, and a couple Passions, is that correct? Which model of the Passion did you all get? I was looking at the one with the velcro blocks, just because that seems like a nice feature (which is the darker one).

Has anyone gotten any other styles? I want to hear about everyone's before I decide on which one to get.

Oh, and as a side note, would it look silly to have a light colored girth with a darker sadddle? They have those sheepskin lined girths for sale on E-bay that seem like a great deal, but if I got a darker saddle I didn't know how much attention that would draw.

GOT IT!!!!!!! Was very pleasantly surprised by the quality! First rate. While I ordered a Casamira, and the one I recieved is marked a Rossi Caruso on the nail head and the knee rolls are shaped differently than I anticipated by the picture, I love it! Super well balanced, seat fits great, they do run narrow and a bit small in the seat, flaps are for tall people, (not me!)but the knee roll hits me correctly!! I just can't believe how well balanced it is!! Panels are flexible, so it seems as though it would fit a variety of horses. Fit my guy! OK, here's my review of the ASC Pampa, having tried it on the horse and done no more than sit in it (Fat Boy needs a longer girth, bummer). Some of you may want to take a few of the comments below with a grain or two of salt, b/c I bought a CC and what I really prefer is a nice deep-seated German AP that my pork butt and my jello thighs and I sink ten *feet* into. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The main issue for me was, would it fit my shark-fin-withered TB? And it does!! I'm absolutely gleeful, and really did not think that it would be possible to find *anything* to fit this horse in this price range. I got the narrow tree. Avery was right on the edge of not needing a narrow tree, according to their measurements, but I got one anyway and I am glad I did, as the panels are admirably stuffed and there is ample, ample, ample wither clearance!

Stuff I'm a little iffy about:

(1) The angle of the stirrup bars is a little worrying. They seem slanted down toward the rear more than usual, and when I pulled one leather down to lengthen it, it started sliding out the back. So this might be one of the rare instances where I *close* those safety latches...

(2) The billets. Yes, they are nylon lined so no, they probably will not stretch... but... they are stiff as boards and I suspect that sitting very close to them in a CC is going to prove a rather interesting experience on a long trail ride.

(3) It is NOT as comfy as all that (but remember what I'm used to). I was kind of surprised when I actually sat in it. If I were intending on doing any jumping in it, which I'm not, I might also be a little concerned about the angle it places the rider at, which to me seems a little too upright (but remember what I'm used to).

(4) Workmanship really only rates an OK when viewed at close range. At non-stress points I was measuring only 5-6 stitches per inch, at stress points more like 8-9. And I can almost guarantee that the stitching along the twist will come out within a year or two of hard use - I can already see one place where it will be a problem.

(5) Some parts of the saddle (this is the ASC Pampa) appear to my untrained eye to be made of man-made materials. It'll be interesting to see how this stuff holds out. And whether I still own this saddle in 10 years.

(6) Downside for fox hunters: no dee rings on the right rear, so forget about that sammich case.

But overall, it suits my purpose ADMIRABLY, my purpose being an inexpensive backup saddle that **fits my high-withered TB** for light hacking so that I can send the Kieffer out for much-needed billet surgery before I get killed.

Got dressage saddle (prestige). I was pleased to see how well-made it is, but I'm reserving total judgement until I get the saddle out to the barn this weekend. I'm a bit worried about the billets - they're somewhat thick compared to what I'm used to seeing.

And I want black fittings to match! All you people in love with your leathers make me want to cry!

Natalie - if you're looking at a saddle to last 5 years or so, I wouldn't be too worried unless you're REALLY hard on a saddle. Even my old Silver Fox (Indian of the cheapest sort, like the cheapest that Stateline now sells) lasted me 5 solid years of riding every day - it still would be, but I switched to dressage and then wanted something with a higher quality and fit. It's a great breaking saddle. If you take care of a saddle and it fits your horse well, you can get it to last a lot longer than you'd think (my Fox is probably pushing 10 years old now). The Andean saddle that I got seems WORLDS better than that one. Time will tell how the leather wears, but first appearance indicates that these saddles would last longer than the typical low-end ones.

sudley4me,
I got the nylon lined leathers, well I really like them, I think they are great, but I guess I have to try them with the saddle, but that won't be happening for another 8weeks or so at this rate... ugh! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
And I just sold my only other saddle! I was hoping this one would fit, man now I am really in a bind...oh well http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
I am going to have to borrow something in the in between times....this is frustrating but not much I can do about it.
I actually got this saddle for a schooling saddle and to keep my Dover Circuit just for showing, but after seeing this saddle and the EXCELLENT craftmanship, I would DEF show in it too! As long as you take care of your saddle, respect it, clean it, clean it! And those billet straps are thick, but you know on those old Crosby saddles they are thick too, but they last forever, and do get soft! But of course just another "opinion"....

You guys are making me so depressed with news of your saddles. No word for me from Andean in response to email or my phone call. So they are seriously lacking in customer service points for me. I mean there are such things as laptops and since I've worked for several world wide companies, I know that there are adaptors to make laptops work in any country including Argentina.

Your reviews are the only thing making me not cancel my order... tho it would probably take me 8 weeks to get that back http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Yay - they came!!! We got the Marbella and the All Purpose - both from St Lourdes. One was a regular tree and one was a wide - they look pretty similar, but fit pretty much all the horses we put them on!! It was too late to actually ride - will do that today - but they were comfy to sit in and the leather seemed great!!! I think that I want to order a narrow tree for one horse - but not sure what one to get - I like a deep-ish seet for foxhunting, mostly - would be interested to keep hearing reviews as you guys ride in them. I like the looks of the Pampa - how does it feel to sit in/on? I'm overall VERY happy. Will post pics as soon as I find my camera.

Well, after all that, I have decided not to keep my Passion. It's the chestnut colored one without the removeable knee blocks. I'm a bit upset as it was supposed to be an 18" seat, and it's barely 17.5" - not to mention narrower than I thought. So, anybody want a Passion for $238? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

How did you guys determine what kind of tree specifically. I would love one of these saddles but my horse is hard to fit. Would I just measure a tree that fit him then give them the measurements?
Also do these saddles fit like pessoa since they are connected to them>

rfath,
How do you like the Prestige? I may buy one for myself if you think the quality and balance is good. My only concern is how wide are the wide trees? I have a hard to fit watermelon - oops! I mean Arabian who has high withers but is round through the shoulders (most saddles pinch, even the Stubben Tristan with a wide tree that I tried over the weekend).
I am anxiously awaiting your critique!

race_run_jump - the saddle I have is an extra-wide tree that runs more like a generous med-wide. A LOT more narrower than I had hoped! The reason I'm not keeping mine is because the flaps are too straight. The picture shows that the flaps are forward, yet the one that I have in my hands looks like more of an equitation flap. That, combined with the seat size that runs small, makes it too small for me. I'm normally a 17.5" with a forward flap, and this saddle's seat measures a little below 17.5". Ugh.

Liretta -

I'll definitely post my impressions and pics when I can. I ended up getting the custom tree for my barrel-mare (no, she doesn't run them. She IS one), so I'll see what it feels like on the horse. My intructor is also curious to see what it's like as well.

edited to add that I compared my wither tracing to the actual saddle and they matched very well. Hey, it was *something* to do while I'm waiting to get out to the barn again!

For $200 I was surprised at how well it's put together. Probably not as nicely as my Berney Brothers (I'll put them side-by-side when I'm at the barn) or the County Close Contact that I just sold, but that's not really a fair comparison. Those are MUCH more expensive saddles.

We rode in them last night. I LOVED my St Lourdes all purpose - it fit like a glove - SO comfy - fit me and the wide-ish QH mare. I rode in the other one - the Marbella that is my friend's - and while it was comfy - it was a better fit on her. I have fairly short legs, and hers are pretty long. She loved them both, but I felt happier in the All Purpose - Which is good, since that one is mine! Still debating about another one to order - anyone tried the Victoria? Thoughts? E

Another couple questions for those of you that have gotten yours (or anyone who knows). Are these saddles wool flocked? I couldn't find anything about that one the site.

The other thing is that some of them say similar to Pessoa. Are they really? Like
when you sit in them do they feel like a Pessoa? I am not a big Pessoa fan, so I figure I should stay away from those saddles. But not all of them say that, so I am assuming it is just some.

rfath,

I'm not talking seat size, I'm talking tree size. Eventer was the one who said her extra wide was actually more like a med-wide. Someone else was saying that they didn't see much difference in their med. and their wide. A saddle more on the order of a med. will not fit my guy. I have one of those sitting in my tack room :/

Took them a week to respond to my last phone call and email and of course, the cell phone was in my jacket and I didn't hear it. That was Wednesday. Left a message for them to call me yesterday... no phone call. I left another one late last night, so we'll see if I hear back from them today.

I found it funny that the fellow was calling from a 480 number and requesting that I call a 623 number. 623 is Glendale not Scottsdale.

Little Indian, my saddle was simply a wide.. not custom. If it had been a real custom order I might have been a little more sympathetic. But then I think emails and phone calls should be returned on a timely basis and that's not been happening. A new company should be even more concern about customer service. If you can't keep up with the orders, hire more people or stop taking orders or at least alert people that it will be longer than necessary. My saddle per the company should have been here two weeks ago and I don't even have a shipping/tracking number, for all I know it's still in Argentina, still on the cow.

Weebonilass - I get you now! Sorry about that.

I wonder if they're showing up as smaller than the posted widths or if their widths are just different from some other saddle makers. I know that what's considered a medium in one brand of saddle is really more like a narrow in others. Frustrating, especially when you've been waiting this long!

Hidden Hill - the Passion, at least, DOES run really small in the seat size. I normally take a 17.5" saddle in a deeper seat (and I don't consider this a really deep seat), and yet I'm feeling a bit pinched in this one. However, sitting in my friend's Pessao A/O, which is an 18", I'm swimming in it. This Passion is supposed to be an 18" seat and it's really small. It was also for my hubby, who looks at the seat with thoughts of pain, so it's obviously not going to work.

The tree width is not accurate, either. There is no way in he** that this is an extra-wide tree. I have a wide tree Berney and this is much narrower than it is. LIke I said, it looks on the wide side of med-wide.

My saddle also took about 8-9 weeks to get here, and it sure wasn't "custom" in the purest sense of the word - it was simply a wide tree. I ordered a wide tree, and got an extra-wide. now, seeing as how they run small, I'm glad I did, but the seat size was also a disappointment, in addition to the flap being MUCH straighter than in the pictures. Now, according to their website, I have to pay a $50 restocking fee if I want to return it? I'm better off trying to sell it locally.

I'm not very pleased with Andean Exports, and I would not order from them again, nor would I recommend them to anybody else. Just my two cents.

Hony,

Per Andean's post on this site...

"We have recently learned that some customers are not receiving the emails we are sending regarding questions and orders.

This is particularly important for AOL and web-mail users and for those with spam blocker programs."

I'm definitely not getting responses in their time frame and I'm not getting any emails in my spam folders from them.

And I wouldn't have waited this long for a saddle, I would have simply ordered a Wintec that I know would have fit him and paid a little bit more. My friend got hers within a couple of weeks and I figured it was worth it and it would have been. This is not. I'm with Eventer. I'm not recommending them unless I find out that their customer service has been improved.

If they tell me my saddle will be there the around 13th, I expect to see it, not still be wondering where the heck it is on the 27th.

And I'm on a very tight budget and really can't afford two saddles right now. Of course, if I would get pictures out of the "wide" in my tack room, I might be able to get a little money out of it http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I got a call from Andean, and they say my saddle will be on its way this week! It's a custom Prestige and I ordered mine WAY after the sale so I have nothing to grumble about. I'm only barely at 5 weeks - so really it's not behind schedule at all.

I think that for the price, and the quality, (from what people have reported), this is a great deal. Even if mine doesn't fit, I know I'll be able to consign it and recoup my costs pretty easily. It's a risk you have to take when buying a saddle w/o trying it. Everyone knows how hard that is right?

I agree. I think it's a great deal.
I paid something like $250 for the Passion with the blocks and although it's not super deep, it's deeper than the flat seat Butet and JTS that we were comparing it to size wise. So, I imagine that accounts for part of the error in judgement in my ordering the wrong size. If I had not been in a hurry to order the saddles before midnight on the day the sale ended, I would have spoken to the customer service people and they would have most likely advised me to order a size larger.

I also think that there's nothing for anyone to "freak out" about. The tack will come when it comes.

I'll let everyone know what I think of the other 2 saddles I ordered when they arrive -- which will hopefully be tomorrow or Monday. They would have been here already, but a huge snow storm hit Charlotte causing unexpected delay.

I just checked my tracking information again and my saddles are due to arrive on March 1. This is about the 5th time that date has changed, but this last change was purely due to bad weather.

Sorry about the Rossi and Caruso saddle. Can't they just substitute it for a St. Lourdes? Perhaps you're better off just getting your money back if it's not what you want.

Anyway, I may sell the 17 1/2 Passion with blocks/ regular tree. I'm thinking of calling and seeing if there's any way they'll give me the same price on the 18 1/2 (and save the restocking fee). The saddle's just fine -- just a bit too tight for hubby.

Which I am in no way complaining about, I love it, its super well balanced and all and all, would do again. Hidden Hill,

I don't think that talking to the sales people, or taking account the deeper seat, would have helped me any. The saddle was supposed to be an 18" and it measures (from nailhead to middle of the back of cantle) just under 17.5". now, I ride comfortably in a 17.5" saddle, even in the deeper seat - the Bates CC is a MUCH deeper seat than the Passion, and I'm just fine in the Bates. The Passion is a tight squeeze for me - ick. And I KNOW I'm not that big!

The nailheads on my saddle say "American Saddle Company" or something to that effect. Huh? Seeing as how it doesn't even resemble the picture, I'm not sure they shipped me the correct saddle. I just emailed Andean Exports two days ago regarding the problem, and they are ignoring me http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif.

Squish, I don't have the saddle with me right now to take pics of (someone is trying it out), but it looks pretty identical to the one that sienna&shot's got - the pics of the Galicia that she posted earlier in this thread. Only difference is that my nailhead is blue and the stirrup keeper is fancy stitched - otherwise, same saddle, except that the flap on mine might be a tad straighter.

If Andean doesn't email me soon I'm leaving negative feedback. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I won a dressage saddle from them, but haven't ordered it yet as I'm still trying to decide on size, as it was a "custom". Am glad I waited after hearing that the seats in the deeper-seated models (like dressage) may run small.

As far as the USPS shipping, I seem to recall reading somewhere - either on their website or on E-Bay - that the saddles aren't shipped directly to you from Argentina, but rather go to Andean Exports here in the states first (I think they're in Colorado somewhere), & then are shipped on to the recipient. That makes sense, as they probably receive one large lot shipment of saddles at a time from Argentina. which would certainly be cheaper for them instead of importing one saddle at a time.

My body is a temple - unfortunately, it's a "fixer-upper".

Just came back from the barn. I'll work on getting a pic up of the saddle on my mare in a little bit, but I wanted to share some impressions...

I'm even more impressed with the saddle. It's VERY comfortable and fit my mare excellently (I got the custom Prestige). I have a very long femur, so it's close on whether my knee stays on the flap, but if I'm riding correctly, it's fine (hey, spring fever MARE today!). The flaps were made slightly longer for me, I believe, but if I could really design a saddle from the ground up I'd want something with a bit more forward of a flap. No big deal - for the way it fit my mare and the price, I can deal with it.

It remains to be seen how well the leather holds up, but for the price, it's a GREAT deal. The horse treats thrown inside the box with the saddle were greatly appreciated by model-mare.

Drummer, you're more than welcome to come out to the barn and give the saddle a spin...

I waited with bated breath! Yeah! I think mine will be a comfortable ride as well. It sat so balanced. The only thing I would cahnge is a shorter flap for those of us who have are height challenged! I could actually have it cut down rather easily if I chose.

Thanks for the offer of a spin! We are in Western Ma., I'm off in 3 weeks, (took a week off before the closing on our new barn. The calm before the storm...)

For those of you with some questions on if the saddle you got was the one you ordered, maybe a pic of the saddle emailed to them would clarify things? Especially if it doesn't resemble what you ordered. Just a thought.

Okay.. here's the pic that I snapped after a tough lesson with my mare (who felt VERY good since it was the warmest day so far this year). Yes the saddlepad is under the saddle all the way http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif From this angle the saddle looks like it's a touch too far forward, but that's because of the angle and the fact that the flaps aren't quite all the way down on her body (need broken in). Warning that the pic takes up a fair amount of screen real estate (but it's not more than 135kb).

Hey gang,

For those of you with your new saddles, I highly reccomend that you oil it! I did, and the leather is already softer! I'm going to oil it one more time tomorrow... I was concerned becuase the leathers I got scratched the saddle and left a slight blemish. But I oiled the saddle and the leathers, with great improvement. Oiling the leathers softened them nicely... I'll try to get a pic of me riding Ms. Sienna in the saddle soon....

Cheers,

Kim :-)

well I am now in the process of waiting again... my 17inch didn't fit http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif ( I got the Galicia) and now I am in the process of another order.
I really was impressed by the overall quality of this saddle, it far exceeded my expectations! And I am ok with the waiting process! Somehow it seems so much more special, knowing it has really been worked and labored over. I was also impressed my the cute bag of treats they threw in as compliments of Andean- my gelding Loved them!
I know that people on here have been disgusted with the Customer Service on this board, however I have the exact opposite feelings, I know they are just starting and so maybe the man-power isn't there yet, and they might not be able to quite afford new hires. I am ok with waiting till they work out all the "kinks" - it takes time to get a business up and running.
I haven't personally had any problems with awaiting a response from them, I have just been patient and well I have gotten the reponses that I wanted! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I really like this saddle company and look forward to seeing more quality work produced by them. Just wanted to share my experience.

It's sort of hard to email them a pic of the saddle when they won't return your emails! I have sent two so far within a week's time and still no response. Andean Exports still gets a "thumbs down" from me. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif

They are looking into the delay and will give me a full refund if it takes any longer than I want to wait!

I'm just waiting for them to carry fittings to match the dressage saddle.

Drummer, drop me a PT or email whenever you want to come out. You can hop up on my mare with the saddle on and see what you think of it.

according to UPS tracking system, my saddle left Arizona today. I had a halter come from MI in about a week, so I'm not sure how long this will take for the saddle since it is significantly heavier and coming UPS instead of USPS

rfath,
So what is your opinion of the Prestige? It looks nice and has a long flap, but how did it feel to ride in it? Is it custom, and if so, did you get a wide tree? That is what I need for the watermelon mare.
Thanks.
ML

I checked with Angelique and apparently the nice long flap is what it comes with. I wish it were slightly more forward since I've got a long femur, but many saddles are that way for me anyway. She mentioned that they can make the flaps longer, but that there's a bit more of a charge since they have to make a new pattern.

Anyway, the feel to ride in.. it's GREAT and comfortable. Very balanced and solid. It measures true to what I ordered, 18", but the slightly deeper seat than my other saddle makes it look a bit smaller than it is. I'll have to get some video/pics of my lessons soon anyway and I can check how it looks with me in it.

I ordered the wide tree and sent in a wither tracing. They matched it perfectly - don't know how, exactly, but it worked for me.

I'm still waiting to see how the leather wears, but for me and for the money, it's a GREAT deal. I didn't really NEED another saddle, but curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to see what everyone was talking about http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Please explain the wither tracing. My mare has high withers, a slightly swayed back, but she is broad just below the withers. When you do the tracing, do you include all those things? I am not concerned about the sway back, because I can have the saddle reflocked or just add a riser if needed, but I am concerned about the tree points being wide enough.
Thx!

Breezy - I faxed it to them. I know that they recently changed offices, so I'm not sure if their fax number changed as well.

Liretta - I took one of those flexible rulers used for drafting and such(you can get them at some office supply stores; Dover saddlery also has one for like $5) and placed it over her back right where the leading edge of the saddle falls. I carefully picked up the curve (it's got metal in it so it'll hold its shape) and traced the inner edge onto a piece of paper and faxed it to Andean - I made sure to make marks 1" apart in case the fax machines compressed or enlarged the image. You can also take a measurement over the withers along the spine to make sure that that angle of the saddle will match up, too. Does that make sense?

UPS just dropped off my last 2 saddles.

The Casimira and the Comalero II both seem very comfy. I am very anxious to ride in the Casimira tomorrow. I double checked the St. Lourdes today and apparently, they sent me the wrong size. SO, I am going to see about getting the correct size. However, I have already had two offers to buy it. It is very comfortable.

Hidden Hill, was your St. Lourdes stamped with the correct size? I ordered the 18.5 all purpose and love the quality for the $$ but it runs REAAAALLLY small if it is an 18.5. I have an 18" keiffer that I ride in and it fits me really well but the St. Lourdes is nowhere near as big. Guess I will have to find a tape and measure it, but I am guessing it is no more than 17".

Yes, it was stamped 17 and it measures 17, but I had ordered a 17.5. However, after seeing how deep the Passion is, I should have ordered an 18 for hubby.

The other saddles seem to be fine, but I will know for sure after I ride in them tomorrow.

have them, hate them for the most part
they were tottaly misrepresented in they ebay ad. the sheepskin doesn't come over the boots like the picture said, won't use the front boots because they are still so stiff (got them beg. of january), but use the ankle boots every day with polos (those are fine). and when they came out of the box they smelled like paint thinner. i'd spend the few extra dollars and get the cheaper pair out of dover.

i recieved my saddle and it feels SOOOOOO comfortable. a LOT lighter than the color in the pictures, but it is still really beautiful. the seat is "textured" and the stirrup keeper is fancy stitched. nothing on this saddle is stiff (which i'm excited about!) I got the St. Lourdes All Purpose. I will take pictures of it in a minute and then post them here so you guys can see.

Another question, if you don't mind me asking, about the custom saddles. How much more do the extras cost? Did anyone get a custom seat or flap? I am just looking at how much extra all that would be to see if I should order a complete custom one or try a standard one, first. Thanks so much! I want to try and HDR since I have heard a lot about them and found them in larger sizes online, but other than that, this is probably the saddle I will be getting. I think I have about run out of any other options in the saddle dept. And so far everyone seems happy with the quality of the saddles. Thanks so much!

I'm waiting for word about how much more it would cost for a custom flap on the saddle... unsure about the seat.

They also said that they're working on getting the saddles so that each of them can be ordered with wool flocking, but currently only a few offer that option (*sob*).
