Ok, just had to share... I know that up north you get tons of snow, and this is NOTHING like what the NE just got recently, but it IS very unusual for FLORIDA to actually get snow.....:lol:

Photos of course never do it justice, we got big fat fluffy flakes after a full day of sleet and rain and falling temps, so nothing really stuck, but it was fun to pull a couple of horses out to "see snow"....

First two photos: Emerald Fire (Emma) who was NOT impressed with the white stuff falling from the sky on her sensitive skin. And the last one (bay horse) is Emerald Impressions (Preston) her half brother who could have cared less.

:D :D

I actually was thinking of everyone today who got the white stuff who usually doesn't.

There's a HUGE difference between us who get it regularly--and are prepared for it and equipped to deal with it--and you poor slobs who got hammered today.

I adore snow, in it's proper form. And much prefer snow to rain and mud. Snow, at least, I can MOVE.

I truly, truly was thinking of all those in the southern areas (TX, GA!) who are getting hit hard. It was almost 40 today and sunny here... :p Which doesn't mean we won't have another blizzard or two in March & April, but I really DO undertsand the difference.

Yeah, I was just giddy with it. LOL Really didn't last long and didn't stick but it was fun while it lasted. I do feel for those north of us even in Dothan AL they got more and the police were telling them to stay off the roads etc.

Here is another photo (not horsey) that a friend took. 15 mins north of my house that shows the snow better...

Having just survived the snow at the AHS meeting last weekend, I hope the white stuff doesn't come as far south as Alachua County FL. Our high winds and rain and freezing temps are enough for me.:yes:

I don't know... a couple of coworkers heard a report that we may get some tonight. I didn't hear the report myself, but its supposed to be cold enough!

Its 42 and rain all day today. The weather man (they LIE you know) said rain was done. So why was I wearing my raincoat to feed? Hummmm......... and going on his advice, why did I turn out 2 ponies with their blankets on? Will ck in a bit and if the drizzle has not stopped I will bring them in. Again.

We are one hour north of Tampa, and one hour south of Ocala. This is FLORIDA for heavens sake!!

when my best friend told me that school was cancelled today in her area (Milton, FL), because there was a chance of flurries!! Meanwhile, back in her old hometown of Pittsburgh, we are still trying to get roads cleared and power restored after the first snowstorm in the past week, let alone the second that occurred on Wednesday. One of the other boarders from my barn still doesn't have electricity to her home a couple miles from me and most every school district in SWPA cancelled everyday this week (a few tried to do the "2 hour delay" today).

The funny thing is, if they did get some flurries, you can still drive your car in it. They don't pull out the plows here until there are at least several inches....

Didn't hear about Milton and if they got snow or not (that is about a hour west of me) but areas around there sure did get snow. And JUST north of me (like 5 mins) got about a half inch or so. Dothan AL (about 20 mins north) got several inches.

The problem isn't the snow down here it is the idiots that CANNOT drive in it. They hit ice or slippery patch and they not only will wipe out their own car but take out a few others too. Just not used to it.

I heard Atlanta only has one snow plow (and they are supposed to get 4 - 6 inches today) so you have those kind of issues too.

It is kind of like when people up north hit record high temps over 100 F and y'all start dropping because of the heat. Not used to it and not prepared for it. Ditto our horses/livestock. They aren't used to it and most of our barns etc are open (we need it in the summers)....

Mary Lou - I hope Andrea didn't have problems getting to Baker. I do believe they got a good amount of snow over there. Will find out tomorrow when I go that way.

Radar is clear so no more for us I don't think (and Sugarbrook - I am so with you on the lying weathermen!).

We have snow EVERYWHERE!!! We live in a log house......and it looks like the thing is on a mountain in Colorado!!! The horses were running and playing, the dogs are running and biting the snow...the cats are running in the house!!!
We probably have an inch maybe 2.....it is still lightly coming down since 4 this afternoon. I love it...but then I don't have to drive on our roads with all the other folks that can't drive in the snow!!!!! Tomorrow morning will be beautiful and then it will be gone.

I heard that this makes snow in 49 states and that is a record. Anyone know if that is true?

I've heard the same thing... the only state not to have a measurable snow today was Hawaii... If that is true that is pretty wild.

And why do the breed inspections have to take place in the dead of summer down there?! I get recruited to come down and help my friend take whatever she has to take and YES, I feel the heat and humidity!! We go "snack" shopping the day before we head out with the horses, since its always an overnight stay wherever, and as far as I am concerned, there can't be enough bottles of water and Gatorade in her truck!

We haven't had a storm like this in 17 years and it reminds me of how we are always at mother nature's mercy, whether snow, hurricanes, tornados, droughts, mudslides, or flooding. Oh, and of course, earthquakes.

I heard that on the nightly news also. 49 out of 50 states had snow today. Just nuts!

Because if we waited for it to be at a comfortable temp we'd be waiting for that ONE WEEK at some point after Nov that it isn't too hot or too cold.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I don't think we got any in Tallahassee! I had to drive to Ocala today and back, and worried about coming back into it......but not so! Just LOTS of rain and miserably cold! Going to 29 tonight (a wet cold) and the high won't hit 50 tomorrow. We're all sick of it, but I know we're still lucky compared to most everyone else!

I'm in Ocala but lived in IL for 40 years so I really don't find snow that exciting. I came here to get away from it. LOL My husband is working in SC and where he is they haven't had snow for about 12 years. Well last night it was prdicted they were going to get 4-8 inches. He said I haven't seen snow for 6 years I hope I don't see it for another 6. I wouldn't mind playing in it for awhile but them I would want it gone. The weather yesterday was miserable and I was so p'd off all day because none of my neighbors felt it necessary to bring their horses in out of the pouring rain and 40 degree weather. They had to be absolutley freezing out there.

Following the Saints Super Bowl victory, we got 3 1/2 hours of snow the other day.:lol::lol: It rained all night long but didn't snow despite the temp being 28 because the rain was apparently warm (pumped up by a low pressure system from the Gulf of Mexico). When the cold precip arrived in the form of snow and I'd call it moderate in quantity, it did not stick because of the warm rain for hours before.

This was the second snow of the winter for us in south Louisiana, which is a first in my lifetime. And now, we are under a Winter Weather Advisary for more snow tonight--no accumulation expected, but still this will be the third episode of snow for us this year alone. And, we had 10 inches of snow last winter--our area is 'an inch or two every 5 to 7 years' kinda place usually.

Scary thing is that Dr. Grey is calling for a busy hurricane season--apparently El Nino that has kept us ridiculously cold and wet this year is going away before the season kicks in. We have a history in Louisiana of having big storms here the hurricane season following a winter with snow (both Betsy and Katrina). Of course, last hurricane season was quiet and it snowed this past winter--let's just hope it holds true again this season.

But really--enough of the wet stuff--frozen or otherwise. My property is one giant muck hole--it's currently 55 degrees here and the thunderstorms are already building in to our west--it's forecast to drop to 30 before daybreak. Uncle, uncle, uncle. . .

I know crazy weather right??? Today I was doing chores and riding etc in a T-SHIRT. It was a high of around 60 something (and when working in the sun it was very comfortable). Tonight the temp is falling and we too are supposed to have SNOW AND RAIN MIX!!!! with mainly snow by am.... and temps in the 20's! This is insane...... sigh.
