Can someone comment or Pm me with your thoughts on Redwine, the stallion in California. I know he's EVA Positive, so can you comment on that as well?

Also, if I breed a Tb mare to him what do I get for registry?

Redwine is gorgeous and his owner Jill is wonderful to talk with.
The EVA protocol is pretty straightforward and Jill outlines it very well. Im sure others on this board will comment on that too.
As for your TB, there are lots of options...is she already in a WB mare book? Look at Redwines approvals and go from there. We picked ISR/OLD for our Tb mares as there are many inspections nearby and travel time can ba a factor in transporting mares and foals to inspections. This registry is really easy to work with too.

I have a lovely coming 2-year-old filly by Redwine. She's a fantastic mover and shows good scope and form through the jump chute. She's absolutely beautiful to look at, and has a sweet and easy personality. She's registered ISR/OLD. I would definitely breed to him again.

Crossroads - can you please post a pic of your filly? I'd love to see her! :)

My Redwine baby out of my TB mare is going to be here in 68 sleeps!!!

I opted to get her OLD NA approved as that registry made sense for this foal and also for many other stallions that I would choose to breed her to in the future

I have met Redwine in person and he is ever nicer in person than in his photos. He is very outgoing and friendly and Jill his owner is super to deal with.

Also, my friend was his dressage trainer for a while and she raved about him and missed him when he went back to the hunter ring.

We are looking forward to breeding to him this year :)

I love Redwine. I'm expecting a foal by him in May, and breeding another mare to him this year.

I've also met Redwine in person, and he is very sweet and personable. He has that "look at me" attitude about him. It's pretty much impossible to look away! I wouldn't count him out as a Dressage sire either... he tends to put movement on his foals, most of which are out of hunter type mares. I'm breeding a Dressage type mare to him this year, it will be interesting to see the foal. His conformation should be an absolutely super compliment to hers.

Your registration options depend on what you get your mare approved with. I'm taking my Thoroughbred mare who is in foal to Redwine to a GOV Inspection with the foal.

The EVA protocol is so easy. When I vaccinated the mare in foal to him now, I just left her at one end of the property with a couple open mares and geldings, and kept the pregnant mares on the other side of the property. There have been many threads on EVA vaccination. I plan to vaccinate every mare from here on out before they enter the breeding program.

Quite anxious myself to see this foal! Redwine is top of my list for my own TB mare.. Have yet to see a foal I dont like by him.

I'm breeding my TB mare to him this year! She lost the foal by him early on in pregnancy last year, but late in the breeding year, and never restarted cycling. So starting her early this year! She's approved with both RPSI, and ISR/OLD NA, as is Redwine, but I'm going with ISR/OLD as that is what her other 2 foals were registred with.

He is also GOV, and I believe Jill has plans to take him AHS this year. AHS is probably the hardest on TB mares to get in, but any of those registries will approve her for breeding if she meets their requirements.

I love Redwine though, and Jill is beyond awesome to deal with. I know most of his kids are showing in hunters, and he is too now, but I think the ones he had in Germany (including several stallions) are competed and doign well in dressage. Basically, from what I've seen online and in person, you can expect a VERY good topline, pretty faces, solid conformation, and its looking like they will be able to jump as well.

I'm breeding mine for eventing, but would like to do some local hunters and dressage shows with it when it's a baby (god willing) since she's got more dressage movement, but a killer form over fences, I think he'll be a good match and she'll lighten the baby up and give it speed for XC (did I mention the mare raced till 10 and won $250k on the track?? :lol) But the baby is mine! so she'd better have it next year.

Wow - you're gonna have the fanciest eventing horse out there!!! I bet baby will do quite well getting exposure at the H/J shows and dressage shows while getting geared up for Eventing.

Redwine one of my favorite stallions...he is just darn-near perfect, imho

Fancy That ~ that's what I'm hoping! Something that will have the scope for the fences, good movement for the dressage, but still make speed. As for exposure... boarding 10 mins from Fair Hill, MD doesn't hurt either, lol. This is, of course, if I get everything I want, I know breeding can still be a crap shoot, but I've adored every single one of his babies. He really seems to stamp them consistantly. Very prepotant sire. I'd even be ok with not much white (I'd like a little, lol) but if it gets daddy's confo, I'd be tickled.

Nice! What color is your mare and how much white does she have? Redwine is sabino and splash so unless your mare is a white-killer, I'd guess you may get a little bling :)

It's good you don't care too much about that part though. Redwine is flashy, indeed, but if you painted him ALL BROWN (or any other non-blingly color), he'd still be just perfect.

My mare is bay with a blaze on her face, but no socks. Her first baby was a black/white pinto, but was 50/50 white with a blaze, second baby was seal brown with one sock, a few hairs that should be where a star is, and a white spot INSIDE his nose, lol. That stallion didn't have a ton of white (davidoff hit) but I was expecting more. Hoping something comes through on this one, I'd like at least some face white, even if no socks. What I really want is a filly, but I know there's no real control over that.

And I agree, that's why I like him so much, solid brown and he'd still be a super sexy stud, lol.

Watched Redwine show at Thermal last year, in the Pre-Greens, if I recall correctly, or maybe it was the Baby Greens. I can't remember. He was a show stopper for sure. I haven't seen too many offspring, so can't comment on that. I'll probably be breeding one of my mares to him next year. If I get any more horses now, I'm heading for divorce.

In fact I have FOUR coming this summer. I am so excited!!

Jill was incredibly nice and super generous. You could not ask for a better stallion owner to work with.

The EVA protocol was no big deal. Jill was exceptionally helpful with all of that, much more so than any of the vets around here! Two mares that would have been stellar crosses with Redwine (a sabino Contucci mare and a Freestyle mare)didn't get vaccinated.... Maybe this year??;)

Now that he is only a few hours away from me... I think I need to go and visit him! That will be so much fun!

I also should probably mention the offspring I've seen. First was champion foal at a VERY large Inspection. I met a few more when I went to visit Redwine. One was only a day or two old, but it was just beautiful already... a real character. Another a super friendly colt, great personality! Saw a couple others there too. Consistently they all had gorgeous necks, heads, and toplines, as mentioned before.

I'm hoping we see more of Redwine in the Dressage arena in the coming years :D

I'll be breeding the mare I have for him this year as soon as he returns to California. Cannot wait for that one.

Donna, definitely go see him while he's there if you can! If you think he's nice in pictures.... he is 10x better in person. I remember walking around the corner, and there he was... literally took my breath away. Incredible creature.

I can't say enough good things about him either. Having met him & quite a few of his offspring, there is nothing not to like. He is SO consistent in what he produces. He's also having good success in Wellington which is no small feat.

Just wondering...anyone know if he's going back to dressage ? The owner was asking questions on the dressage forum about correct tack (if I remember correctly) a few months ago.

I know that videos are just moments in time, but he looks better in the one taken in Germany where he's doing basic dressage, than in the video from the hunter ring, IMHO.

He is definitely lovely and absolutely is one of the most consistent producers of stunningly beautiful foals I've ever seen! Each one is a cookie cutter, which is one of the best qualities a stallion can have. :)

We are breeding two mares to him this spring. Love Jill have one infoal now to Federalist, another one of her boys. All of them are fantastic and Jill does a great job promoting them, which is very important to mare owners. So many stallions anymore just don't do anything. Jill proves hers not only look beautiful but can perform beautifully too. I hope she does take Redwine AHS. It would be easier for me since that is what my two mares are that I'm breeding to him. I don't think he would have any problems getting his approval with AHS.

I also have met Redwine in person, at Thermal last year, and completely agree with what has already been said here. He is stunning, takes your breath away with his presence. I was really impressed.

I bred my mare, a thoroughbred, to him last year and am expecting her foal in about 6 weeks.

Jill was wonderful to work with, and the vacination protocol was easy. I don't have my own place, so the vet clinic where I had her bred vacinated her there in an outside pen and it just required leaving her there an extra couple of weeks on pasture board.

As soon as my mare gets her current bun out of the oven and we can vaccinate her she will be bred to him this spring. It will be my first ever non racing foal, I am super excited.
