Could someone/anyone explane about why you would geld a horse only at certain times of the month?

Is this like voodoo or something?

Not voodoo--it's called "folklore". Something the old timers came up with over the years through observation.... Farmers have been doing stuff according to certain phases of the moon for hundreds of years:

You can use it in gardening, for example. I once planted a root crop at the wrong phase of the moon and the veggie popped right up out of the ground....

Also, when I had to have surgery on my nose for a deviated septum I made sure to schedule it right after the full moon because the full moon supposedly causes the body to bleed more. Laugh if you must but the doctor who operated on me told me I had the least amount of bleeding and swelling he had ever seen in a patient, and he'd been practicing for decades...

Growing up my girlfriend's father was a doctor and he always dreaded full moon because he said there were always more babies born then than at any other time.... I figured he would know!

All I know is what I've experienced!

Anyway, anyone gelding a horse--do it after full moon....

I know several old time breeders who always geld by the almanac and have never had a problem-we're talking 100's of colts. They also use it for other things, planting, etc. I have only had a handful of foals, but have used the almanac dates for gelding based on others experiences. Less flies, less bleeding, less predators in the area at those times, etc. Some of those things don't really matter with todays management, but why not go with it?

I get that it wont hurt anything but does it honestly help, thatsnotme? IOW are there colts that die if gelded at the wrong time? Have experiments been done? Yeah Im a scientist at heart.

My mom scheduled a knee surgery by the phase of the moon. It was already her idea but when she told her doctor he completely 100% agreed with her.

Most of the cattle farmers around here also won't cut testicles or horns for that matter if the phase of the moon isn't right.
