View Full Version : Truck Tents

So we have an F150 Ext Cab now and I am going to switch over to it as my hauling vehicle (I was one of those doing the SUV thing before).
For camping, I bought a two person tent previously, but it just gets cold!
I'm considering one of these as it is much cheaper & lighter than buying a cap.
Anyone have any experience with these?

I have one of these and I LOVE IT!
So much more comfortable and warmer than sleeping on the ground. And they're great in the rain too.
I'm 5'8" and I can stand up in it if I duck my head--much handier than using a cap.
I used a futon mattress last summer, but this year I'm going to get a cot to save room since it's just me.
My friend (who camps with her kids) got one of the Truck Bedz air mattresses and it worked fantastically. It's heavy duty and doesn't deflate (even after a week).
I prefer having one without a floor (the Napier tents have a floor). Not having a floor allows you to set the tent up without having to remove the bed contents first. Plus a floor adds to the bulk of the tent when storing it.
I highly recommend doing a trial run in your driveway in the daylight before going camping. I'm so glad I did this because the first time I used it I wound up arriving at my campsite at dusk. I got mine set up by myself in about 10 minutes and was able to help my friend set hers up in the dark without any problems.
A mounting block serves double duty as stairs to the tent.
For those cold nights I got a propane catalytic tent heater: http://www.mrheater.com/upload/newsletter/mrheaterMH4b.pdf

I had looked at getting one, but ended up with a small ground set up tent due to trying to get the most out of the money I had set aside for camping stuff. I did purchase a cot which is nice and the last few times I have gone camping I didn't bother with the sleeping tent, just set up my cot in the horse section of the horse trailer.I got an inexpensive runner rug from walmart. I lay down a large trash bag, then the runner and set my cot up on that. One less thing to set up. I did purchase a porty pottie/shower tent which I love! If I'm setting anything up it is that. Really nice not to have to wander thru the dark to a camp bathroom or shower.

I got one last fall and had it out once to try it on the truck. Ended up not going to any more rides last year.
But it fits great- I like the Napier one- just seems like a better quality tent. Has the awning which of course does not quite work when hooked up to my trailer, but in all a neat little setup.
I am really hoping to get a lot of use out of it this year!
