I know I've seen SOMETHING, SOMEWHERE about horses with a lighter-colored ring around their eyes. It indicates a deficiency of something. Isn't it amazing that my wee grey cells have stored everything EXCEPT what the missing thing actually is?

With the horses starting to shed, I might be seeing the difference between winter and summer coat colors, but I have noticed a couple of distinct light rings. Anyone?

And let's say it can indicate a deficiency in X -- would you supplement that if you were me? (if you were I?) It isn't practical to test our hay -- we have a mixed selection this year. Is there a blood panel for that type of deficiency?

Copper.
And whenever I have suspected it...turns out horse was just shedding funny.

There's also a "mealy" kind of bay with lighter around the eyes and muzzle and what, the belly, or something, which is a genetic color.
