I've never used single dose vials before - only multi-does vials and I'm not sure I've ever used one down to the very end  So is there a trick to getting ALL of the liquid out of the vial. If I turn the vial upside down with the tip of the needle just barely inside of the vacuum seal, will I get all of it? This stuff is $$$ so I want to make sure I get my money's worth!! Any tricks to this?

I always draw up some air into the syringe before inserting it into the vial. Then I press down on the plunger and put the air into the vial. That helps create a positive suction into the syringe. Once it gets towards the bottom, held upside down, I tilt the vial ever so slightly so the liquid pools together and SLOWLY draw the needle out, keeping the angled tip of the needle the same angle as the liquid inside the vial. It gets every drop out every time.

From my RN bad of tricks: Carefully inject air from your sterile syringe into the vial just prior to drawing the med out. Only inject an amount of air equal to the doseage amount--if you over fill, you can cause problems with the medication squirting out because of the increased pressure. Medications are usually slightly overfilled (so take care to give the dose you intend), but you can get all the medication out by turning the bevel of the needle up so that it 'catches' the small amount of medicine left in the vial.
