I have a Diamont/Trapper mare and am looking for a nice cross to do dressage and jumping. I need a stallion who is at least 16.2. Thanks.

AHS is having their online stallion auction right now. Maybe check that out.

I did check them out but was also interested in the professional breeders on the forums opinion(s) of what would cross well. I like Apiro, but he is not at the auction. :(

Diamont/Trapper is more likely to give you a dressage horse than a jumper - although any good horse should be able to do lower level jumping.

One of the best known nicks for a Diamont/Trapper mare was Fuerst Gotthard, but he died last year and is only available by frozen.

Were she mine (I've got two Diamonts, but neither is Trapper crossed), and if I wanted fresh semen, I'd be looking at Rubignon or Rubino Bellissimo. That would be a dressage foal.

If Pointmaker is still breeding, he is also a known good cross for Diamont mares.

If you wanted to go all-round but still keep quality, I'd probably look at Landkonig and Pablo.

I've seen many Pointmaker offspring, and most have nasty temperaments. Wouldn't recommend him.

Do you have any photos of the mare? What are some more specific things your looking to improve?

Just looking at the pedigree, Pablo is a good suggestion, he's a super stallion.

Wait just a momento there! I bred a Wallenstein daughter to Pointmaker and got a FABULOUS black filly - with great feet and a lovely temperament. Pic below from just before she was sold. And I know Judy Ehlers bred lots of mares to him - several were site inspection champions. So, let's watch the generalizations.

I have never met a Pointmaker with a bad temperament or terrible feet. My best riding horse ever was out of a Pointmaker dam, and she had a lovely temperament with great, big feet.

I disagree...we have several Pointmaker offspring and one of the things we like best...great dispositions! One is a favorite broodmare, she has good strong hooves. We have a colt of hers at a show right now and the most common comment about him is his lovely, calm demeanor. He is just 20 months and calmly took the show atmosphere in stride. His sire is noted for his great disposition, so is his mama, the Pointmaker daughter.

I agree! I remember speaking with the Ehlers way back when they still owned him and the one thing they "did" say was that he consistently gave his babies sweet temperaments. I've seen lots and lots and lots of Pointmakers over the years, both at foal inspections and as adults. While there will always be some that are quirky regardless of who the sire is, I would have to say that overall, I found nothing alarming or unpleasant about either their temperaments OR their feet...

Rebecca, Pilar is coming to Oklahoma probably sometime in March <smile>. Just thought you might like to know that! We'll get some pictures of her when she arrives.

OH, that's wonderful! I'm going to have to come up to see her!

BTW, guys, it was our own Kathy that bought this Pointmaker filly I bred!

One of my very favorite all-time mares is by Pointmaker. She has the disposition of a saint and outstanding feet.

I have some Pikadero straws I would sell. He would be an interesting consideration as he was originally imported to be a top-level dressage horse but ended up being a successful international Grand Prix jumper.
