View Full Version : Any Old style broodmares available for custom foal?

I'm considering breeding for my next mount but no longer have any broodmares. I am looking to breed for a nice moving (can't sit the big gaits with my back), great tempered 16h chunk for dressage and trails for my pleasure. Frozen semen is a definite possibility as I like Chapman, Wanderer, De Luxe. I would prefer to do an on-your-farm lease and that you may be having other babies. Just throwing this out there to see if this is viable :)

California mares a possibility?

I would love that as well!

An old style Gelderlander mare that I could breed to Alexandro P! :)

I have one, she is a Waldkoenig (Wenzel) x Wodka X Der Lowe xx . She is 16.3 hh though and is very large bodied . Here is a pic (not the greatest confo shot but gives you an idea) with her Quaterback colt...

I have never done a custom foal...is this basically where you pick the stallion and the mare owner then sells the resulting foal in utero?

Me first :) I was hoping to stay on the East Coast for shipping costs later but since others might be interested, can you post info?

I have an older style GOV mare that I'd consider doing this with. Located in California.

By Royal Appearance, out of a Grannus/ Karthago damline. Older style, lovely mover, incredible jump. PM me if interested. This is a fantastic mare.

Donella, would love to see better pics when possible. I think it could be done like that or as a lease type situation where I would pay breeding expenses, etc, similar to some of the situations listed in the Broodmare Lease thread. Where in Canada are you?

Maybe Mo Swanson at Rolling Stone Farm would do a custom for you. She has the most wonderful broodmare band. She may even already have foal there to your liking :)

I have a great one by Hohenstein - 16 hands on the dot. She does produce modern when bred to modern, though.

She is due with a Stedinger baby March 20th. Undecided whether I am breeding her this year but she takes on one dose of frozen, typically.

DeNiro and Hohenstein is a proven nick so I imagine DeLuxe would make a nice cross (another COTHer recently bought a gorgeous DeLuxe x Hohenstein foal).

CDE Driver, this mare has Gelderlander in her, if you are interested in buying. I checked her out last year to buy to ride but ended up with something else, and now no riding horse....

I have a mare I might consider this with under the right circumstances. She is 16.3 Werbellin mare. I had planned to breed this summer but due to life I probably will not.

I have a Weinstein x Graphit x Gotthard mare that is 16.2-16.3hh. She is already booked to a jumper stallion for 2010, but if you fall in love for her, we are already doing one custom foal with another mare, for another client this year, so we can discuss about it. Mare is MMB approved with GOV, but is 100% hanoverian lines. 9 st.pr. mares in first 4 generations. Decent mareline (Stallions Falkenstern I &II, Gotthardson, etc.):

I may consider my mare. She is currently waiting her '10 foal ('09 foal was also by Wedderlie Mardi Gras and he was Premium Weser-ems). I get her back when weaned but she could be bred.

*Imported from Germany Palomino Sabino ZfDP registered large bodied mare
*15.3 hands (seems to produce big. Her pony foal looks like he will mature small horse)
* She is approved for breeding GOV, RPSI and Weser-ems.

PM for pictures.

I am in Ontario and have an old-style Dutch mare that may be to your liking. Ahorn x Imalve/Ekstein. She's 17.2hh but her first Goodtimes foal matured at 16.1hh, she produced a spectacular dressage foal by Pacific Star STV (17hh) and I think he'll probably be 16.3hh or a little better. I have her booked to Banderas for this year, but may consider an on-farm lease and I can do an ET for myself.

Feel free to contact me if you're interested.

Have you considered a Welsh Cob? I have been looking at these recently and they are a pretty cool option in the more compact category. I like this kid by North Forks Cardi:

I have found that a pear shaped barrel seems to work best for me and I like a wide twist so need the back to go with it :)

I'm only 5'6" though so not sure 17.2h is quite where I want to go right now. With my luck, the baby would take after mom :)

We have an SPS Hanoverian mare that we are planning to do an embryo transfer with for ourselves this year but we would be happy to do one for you if you are interested. She is a SAINT of a horse and although she is bigger than you are interested in she is very simple to ride and sit and just floats.

We also have an older style Holsteiner mare that was just recently retired from her dressage career due to an injury. She is the size/build you are interested in and is also a card carrying saint of a horse.

I have the perfect mare and she's thrown color too!

Eerste is a tri-colored Dutch cross mare and She is a tank-right now she's open and wearing an 81 inch blanket and the chest straps are all the way out. She's 15.2 but throws BIG. I have two of her daugthers still on my farm from my Dutch stallion. Her coming 4 year old is 16.2 and just takes your breath away-she's the black and white Tobiano. Her 8 month old filly, Well can you say Big Eq horse? I got Eerste from another COTHER years ago who can tell you about her other two babies too-by different stallions.

She's a State of the Art daughter, scored MMB ISR, but is in pre-mare book b/c SOTA was not approved.

She has stunning, sturdy, beautiful and EASY and friendly babies.

We are 20 miles from Cornell University and my vet is an experienced repo vet.

You can PM me for more details and our website.

Hope this helps.

I would be more than happy to discuss what you seek, please feel free to call me. I have several older blooded mares. Also Farrier who posts here has a wonderful 16.2 H Rubenz daughter that I had leased that he might consider a lease on. She had a wonderful , tall filly by our stallion Beste Gold that sold almost immediately, whose new owner is thrilled to death with her totally unflappable, kind temperament.

I have two mares that would fit the bill. First is a wonderful Diamont/Darwin/Marconi mare about to give birth any day to a custom foal by DaCaprio for one of our COTHers. She is the chestnut pictured below. You can also see her live on the foal cam right now at www.marestare.com/fcam.php/alias=sonesta

The other is a dark bay Feiner Stern/Waldhorn/Grunewald mare that is currently open but has produced a wonderful Routinier colt.

Both are Main Mare Book with American Hanoverian Society and GOV and ISR/ONA.

I have a mare that I'd think about doing a custom breeding. She has continually produced amazing premium foals. While she is not well known bloodlines to people who are unfamiliar with Danish bloodlines. She's an elite Danish Warmblood mare, her Sire is the only stallion to have had three offspring in the same Olympics. She is by May Sherif out of an elite Grandis mare. She tends to throw a lot of chrome and kids that have amazing movement. While she is 20 years old she's an amazing producer and loves her babies. May Sherif can be found in the pedigrees/sire of horses such as Matador, Matine, Maximus and Andiamo.

I would consider a custom foal contract. I have an imported Hanoverian mare that I have tried to breed to lighter stallions, but with the right choice you could get the "tank" you are looking for :) Bel Etrice (Baryshnikov/Raphael) has produced some super babies, including riding horse champions, sport horse breeding champions, Elite Mare Candidates and stallion prospects. She is currently in foal to Rubignon and this foal will be for sale

I have an Elite Hanoverian mare by Walldorf/Gesandt. I bought her for her gaits but she can also jump the moon and is in the Hano JBP. She is 16h and quite wide (36 cm saddle). Her babies are scoring 8's and 9's on gaits in the dressage ring and one was champion at the GAIG's. Multiple "top foal" inspection winners as well. She's expecting a JBP foal in May by Balou du Rouet that will be for sale. I have the full sibling to this foal that I'm planning to keep for myself. She's been bred with frozen all but one time, usually catching on first try. I currently have her for sale but if I could justify keeping her...

Pictures of her and her offspring and video (from her MPT) are on my website. :-)

Here are links to pictures of her from her MPT:

I have several older type broodmares. They have all been booked for 2010 but you may like the crosses? Or if you would be interested later to do a custom foal. One mare, Saretta(29.75% Gelder)KWPN but also AHS appr by Ferro is infoal currently to Ijsselmeer Ikepono (almost all Gelder I believe). She is booked to the Dutch stallion Laroche for 2010. Another mare Melesta (31.25% Gelder)by Hemmingway is infoal to Idocus (He has a great deal of Gelder blood) and is booked to Ijsselmeer Ikepono for 2010. Another mare is NF Amayzing (Oldenburg and AHS Main Mare Book) by Anhaltiner E is infoal to Sir Wanabi and booked to Red Wine for 2010. See pics below of these 3 mares or you can go to our mare page for more info, pics and video http://www.lazyjsporthorses.com/mares.htm

We're not exactly close to you - but we do have a lovely, big old-style mare (Weltstern/Viking Song) that will most likely be available in 2010. She is MMB with RPSI, and has given us some beautiful babies. She has floaty, smooth gaits and is a simple, fun horse to ride.

With fresh/shipped semen, she has taken on the first try for us every time so far, and has had problem-free pregnancies (big knock wood of course). We have not tried using frozen with her yet. I would love to have her leased out in 2010 for either riding or breeding as long as she can stay at our farm.

Here are some pictures of her:

I have a really nice mare I just recently acquired and am still pondering the 2010 cross on her. I'd consider in-utero or custom to someone truly serious. You can see her on my mares page www.celticpridefarm.com (Amulet - the bay with 4 socks). She is buried in our snow at the moment...http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii170/okgottago/Blizzard%20Feb%206%202010/?action=view&current=IMG_2575.jpg Wouldn't let her leave the farm though - she is in MD.

I have a coming 6 yr old Routinier mare, built like a brick you- know -what that is just hanging out here. I keep wanting to start her, but no time. She has a ton of knee and hock. She is in the main mare book of the GOV with a score of 6.9 with a 7.5 on breed and sex type. She looks like a clone of Routinier. She stands at 16.1 hands. She has had one fancy foal by Sinatra Song, took on first attempt. She is in South central PA (York) and she could stay here, or go to a farm where I would be welcome to check on her. She is everything I wanted, and I wanted old style.

I would also consider leasing a mare or mares for the 2010 breeding season. I have 4 RID mares from a big 17.1 hand grey Fast Silver daughter, a 15.3 hand bay Happy Ending mare, her dam a 15.3 hand Snowford Bellman and finally a tidy little treasure at 15.1 from the brilliant Banks Fee Daniel(she is a surviving twin so is likely a bigger mare). These are traditional type Irish Draughts with substantial bone and depth of body. All are good movers with the Bellman daughter and the Banks Fee Daniel daughter quite above average in all three gaits. The Fast Silver and the Happy Ending have shown good talent as jumpers the other two are untested. I do not have restrictions that they be only bred to Irish Draughts. The reason they are available is that I am only trying for one foal this year and the mare choice could change if there was someone interested in an Irish Sport Horse foal. PatO
