Who do you think are the best hunter stallions? I like Domino, Alla'czar and the big chestnut with chrome that jumps incredibly and most of his babies do, too. I can't remember his name though http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Soxy, Look into the 'R' line GOV Oldenburgs! Up your way in New England is the wonderful Rohdiamant son, Rodioso - scopey, lovely form and excellent mover. We have an '03 filly by him who is outstanding!

Popeye K is definitely the "up and coming" hunter stallion.
He is only 6 or 7, but is already producing tons of typey foals and is competing well under a student of Tommy Serio's.
I understand his foals are getting snapped up left and right!

My top three would have to be:
Alla' Czar
Viscount
Popeye K
I also really like all of the Silverwood Farm stallions and have seen some LOVELY, gorgeous, flashy hunters by them.http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I told my mom that my dream is to one day have an Alla' Czar baby and a baby by either Hall Of Fame or State Of The Art....hey..I can dream, can't I? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Me too Tattered Daydreamer, now I have my own, and a weanling of a customers, 2 yearlings,
and one more coming. that makes 5 Alla Czars in the barn LOL! One can NEVER have too many ALLA CZARS can they? LOL
Notice extremely high price on my ALLA CZAR yearling? Wouldn't bother me in the least if I kept her. Never had a kinder horse!

I like Jupiter as a hunter stallion... his owner is on this board somewhere.. I think he has an incredible jump, plus he is so pretty!!!
Also.. I heard a runour that popeye K was gelding almost 2 weeks ago now.. anyone heard about that?? I only heard because 2 ladies at my barn wanted to breed to him (although they couldn't this season anyways..) and they told me that he was gelded and everyone is so upset.. Maybe cause almost everyone with a mare at our barn wants to breed to popeye...
Gotta love mares!

That's awesome MsHunter! You lucky thing you! Watch out, I might make the trip from PA to NJ and steal one or two of those Alla Czar babies! Someday I'll have my Alla Czar baby, even if I have to buy a really young one to be able to afford it. That would be my dream horse, they're all soooo gorgeous! That's sad news about Popeye K if it is indeed true, he's so gorgeous and so are his babies, it would be a shame if he was no longer available.http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Edited to say: Your Alla Czar filly is GORGEOUS MsHunter, I can see why you want so much for her!

Gee, when I watched Popeye K hack around in the Green Conf hack yesterday (which he got 3rd in) here in KY, he sure did look like he still had all his parts! And I sincerely doubt they would be showing him if they had just gelded him...
He was Green Conformation Champion by the way. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey Kinsella, I know you must have taken photos!
Can you share them? I'd love to see pics of Popeye K, I have only heard wonderful things!
Celebrity, Jupiter and Alla Czar share the same sire in Zeus. Just some trivia!
Thanks Tatterdaydreamer for the compliment of my filly.. She is a late foal and VERY immature, will LOOK better as a 2 yr old but hopefully will keep her movement and her appearance.
All the other Alla Czars belong to someone else. Another one Amaczing was sold and leaves next weekendhttp://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Oh boy, I think there would be riots if Popeye K were gelded! There shouldn't have been any reason to do so; from what I understand he was just a sweetheart to deal with when his old owners had him.
He was sold by the people who have www.warmbloods.com (http://www.warmbloods.com) (Paul and Darlene Morgan) last winter. They are supposed to get him collected and frozen after he finishes this show season, so I'd be absolutely SHOCKED if he was gelded.

I loff Popeye http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif and feel so very very lucky to have two colts by him...one will be for sale at some point. Both are lovely natured, great movers and learn quickly. The older one (yearling) looks more more like his dad every day. Neither of mine got the really high whites but both got lots of "chrome". I just love seeing the photos of him since we miss him in Canada and can't see him in the flesh so easily any more. I do however, wonder why these gelding rumors continue to resurface....poor Popeye will be going around with his legs crossed http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
I want to add another stallion that I think is producing nice hunter babies....Oxford....( go to avonanimalhospital.com then click on horses then reproduction and then click on Oxford). And do not forget Fred....he is very much a hunter stallion who also does the job well himself.

http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gifI would like to second "Cabilito", 6 yr old. Hanoverian stallion standing in Texas, currently winning in the First Years with Shane George. Awesome stallion with even better disposition.
I have a 2002 filly by him out of a Goldschlaeger mare. This filly is fabulous, will be big but still very refined. I'm so lucky to have her. The most free shoulder I've ever seen, with a HUGE, flat trot and even better canter.
At her first hunter breeding show she was Reserve Champion Best Young Horse. Planning on continuing to show her and take her the IHF Finals next year.

Also, Domino, Dutch Pinto Stallion produces foals with wonderful dispositions, all with the same conformation and form over fences, doesn't seem to matter who the damn is. I have a 3 yr old gelding by him who is going great over fences and is only for sale b/c I'm wanting more mares...(crazy I know).

Quinn - you forgot one of the other great things about AFR. His owner. Gail is an amazing person who truly loves her stallion and wants each and every mare owner that breeds to him to achieve their own personal dream. I have talked to her a few times and I don't have a "Fred" yet, it's in my plans to have one within the next couple of years.

Question.....
Are "Hunter sire" stallions really pre-potent at throwing hunter type foals? Wouldn't it really depend on the mare they are bred to?

Minime... Go to Tish Quirk's site and look at her stallion, Just the Best, and then look at his babies. He is pretty consistent with throwing the hunter type, although I'm not positive of the breeds of mares he's been bred to. tattereddaydreamer you have good taste! I have both in my barn and have had 3 Viscounts total in the barn up to date. Although I have not bred to him yet ($$) I adore him too. The brains of all of the ones I have had and the movement are worth it alone. Zarr is another one putting lovely ones on the ground and Just The Best is also a nice one. I think it depends on the mare who you cross them with in every case, and your budget LOL!!
We have a 3 yr old Viscount in the barn that is just to die for in everyway. His first 2 shows in his life as a 3 year old he required NO PREP AT ALL.
Hop on went in the schooling ring hacked around like he had done it his whole life. He is also kind, gorgeous and a 10 mover (trot and canter).
We are taking this one along slowly, he is a July baby.

A really nice TB stallion that throws sane and correct pretty hunter types. I have one out of a hot OTT mare, and she is a keeper) is Harry the Hat at Castle Rock Farm in Unionville, Pa. Harry is by Seattle Slew out of an Affirmed mare and was an expensive pretty baby himself who wasn't much on the track but throws consistently nice babies-- alot of bays and some pintos. He has a divine temperament himself.

AFR really does throw the type that Silly Mommy posted a picture of. My filly is very similar and very gorgeous. She has an incredible jump which any hunter person would drool over. ( I have a photo of it taken at two and a half months). She has a smart, sensible disposition, and is totally user friendly. And movement? Athletic, elegant, and forward. I could not be happier about her.

I don't think Jupiter has a website, but I can't recommend this stallion highly enough. ALL of his babies that I've seen have his jump, and freakish athletic ability. I have one Jupiter baby out of a Canadian Sporthorse mare, and one out of a Thoroughbred mare, and with such very different dam lines, I think they are a testament to Jupiter's ability to stamp his get.
Yes, Jupiter is small, and mine are both well under 16 hands, but they come equipped with a monster step that leaves the 17 hand European imports at our barn feeling small.
Here's a picture of Justice - 6 years old in the modified Amateurs, he'll move up to the 3'6" next year.

Your Jupiter baby is fabulous.
I watched him at Harrisburg a few years ago and he is great. Is he still breeding? The size as you mentioned certainly has not affected his gets, jump or step. He has a wonderful pedigree as well.

Is Zarr in any warmblood registries? Are his babies registerable?
Justice
Sep. 5, 2003, 08:23 AM
Jupiter is still breeding, but they haven't ever advertised him since his book fills up by word of mouth. It's so ironic... Johnny was purchased as a yearling before Lindsay bought Jupiter, when he was virtually unknown as a stallion, since he had very limited showing and was out in the NY countryside. My understanding is that Scott found Jupiter after seeing Joy, once of his babies. So it was because of his get that Jupiter had a shot at such a brilliant career with Lindsay... definitely not the way it usually goes!
Hexel
Sep. 5, 2003, 09:20 AM
You might want to check with Warioto on Zarr and what and how his babies may or may not be registered. I do not breed for registration. I breed for a type of horse for a particular discipline.

I have to say that I love the hanoverian stallion Louvre b/c I have 5 yr old mare by him that is awesome! The pictures I have seen of him are amazing and my mare is looking to have a lot of potential. One of the reasons I bought her was that the Chronicle did an article in their 1997 (I think) stallion issue about stallions that were both competively successful and easy to handle and be around. Louvre was one of the featured stallions. There was a picture of him with no tack on and his owner sitting on him. The owner was quoted as saying that he was so laid back that she could take him from the breeding shed to the show ring and that he was her pet! My mare has turned out totally the same - she would get on your lap if she could!

I have a very fancy filly by Just the Best that was the champion premium filly at the ISR Oldenburg inspection last month here in Rancho Santa Fe California. Tish Quirk stands the handsome bay and he has produced some beautiful babies and I have another one comming this year because the cross was so successful. I searched almost two years for a stallion who would, like my TB mare, turn heads as both a hunter/jumper and dressage horse. Thanks to Felix Einhaus of the Holsteiner Verband, I now have a 6 month old colt who surpasses my wildest dreams. It was Felix who recommended Cunningham, a young, Verband-Approved stallion who had recently been imported to California by Mary Slouka, who has to be one of the nicest people on the planet. Cunningham is by the International jumping sire, Cassini, who also sired the marvelous Grand Prix dressage mare, Claire, ridden by Tuny Full-Page; and out of Iorella, a Contender mare with higher evaluation scores (by one point) than Contender himself. A 16.3h 3 year-old stylishly free-jumping 5.5' when I saw his first video, Cunningham is now 17.2h, competing as a hunter in California, and, looking the absolute picture of talent and elegance. The horse has and throws all the lightness and suspension one needs to excell in dressage, but without a trace of the excessive knee action that would eliminate so many "expressive" dressage horses from ribbons in a hunter u/s class. I am obviously very high on this horse, and would encourage anyone with a nice mare to seek him out.

Our jumper stallion, More Than Luck (Best Of Luck x Inetta x Beach Boy) just went to his first Hunter show as an adult. He won the hack at the IHF when he was 4. Since then he has been doing the jumpers including the $50,000 Budweiser International Speed Derby.
Just to prove how versatile and elegant he is, we entered him in the Regular Working and Regular Conformation. He was Reserve Champion in both divisions. He won over fences and under saddle. So, now he also qualifies as a hunter stallion as well as a jumper stallion.
