Ran across this Standardbred a while back - Bendoverbaby (Overcomer - Success Katie - South Bend). And of course there is the infamous Hoof Hearted - there were two of them, one Ca bred, 1982 and one 1993, Ontario bred - and the infamous and very fast trotter No Sex Please.

I also remember a broodmare named Hot Canary, dam of Fried Egg (Egg Drop Soup, Pan It Up), Roast Chicken (Scooters Hotwings, Sams Chick) and Stuffed Goose; Fully Equipped, dam of D Cup. I miss Stoner Creek Farms, they were creative in naming horses.......

In her later H/J career it had to be changed. My daughter finally refused to sit through yet another announcer proclaiming "and in --- place is Jane Smith riding.....Lots of sluts http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif?"

Juddmonte had one called Birdlip. We also had another named Giveaway. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I guess when you have 300+ yearlings per year to name, it gets kinda tough! My favorite name was Xaar - he was a champion 2yo in England. Chester House was named after Prince Khalid Abdullah's house in England. I actually thought Honest Lady was about like naming a horse Spot or something!

Bendoverbaby? D cup?? Those are interesting. They sound like Mike Pegram names. They should change War Emblem's name to "No Sex Please." http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

I like the names Claiborne Farm chooses (short, one-syllable words like Lure, Preach, Swale, etc.). Even though they are common words, they are unique as horse names.

Years ago we sold a yearling at the Keenland September sales who ended up with the name "Dave's Mistake". Didn't give us great hope that he was going to be a Derby contender!

Stake Dinner ~ I hated that one.

I also new a woman who had a TB OTT she ws retraining for the H/J ring. His racing name was Great Balls of Fire (in Spanish, I can't remember how to say it), because he was a big 17.1 hand chestnut who had huge testicles before he was gelded. That is an awful name!!!!

drifting cloud - about Bendoverbaby, she is racing in Northfield. Her last race was 25-JUN-2003, and she finished 8/17T....not very impressive. She is Ohio-bred. As to D Cup, Stoner Creek had some very creative (and often somewhat lewd) names for their babies.

Another rather nasty name (from the announcer's viewpoint) is Norfolk And Way....say THAT one really fast a couple of times. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

There is a Standardbred racing on the West Coast named Pulledsuspensory. For just plain weird, there is a Squid, an Oatbin, Straw Walker, The Bobtail Nag, Nag Nag Nag, and an acquintance of mine owns a horse with the unfortunate moniker of Wooda Shooda Kooda.

My personal favorite (not being sarcastic) for this firey little chestnut Standardbred was REDHOTFILLYPEPPER...a TB friend has applied to use it on one of her TBs.
Jeese, PULLEDSUSPENSORY is terrible but I guess it promises he won't get one since our old SPEEDINGBULLET was a slug.

To follow the chef theme, there was a Standardbred mare called La Pomme Souffle and some of her offspring were named as follows: Plat Du Jour, Peach Melba, French Chef, Creme Brule, Bocuse (after the chef Paul Bocuse), and French Dressing. French Chef, a good sire, sired Frugal Gourmet, Royal Chef, Dinner At Eight, Eating Raoul (dam - Flower Pot) among other dining related names. He was also the sire of Beach Towel (dam - Sunburn).

Rhonda - about Kitchenerontuesday, from what I know about the Make A Deal colts, I can understand why the name if these sales are held on Tuesday.I had one that should have been named Moosejawonthursday...and that is where he ended up. He was terribly unsound, not a straight pin underneath him and he hit everywhere, not enough boots for that boy. He also had the worst parrot mouth I have ever seen. Top speed for Gummy was 2:30, then he fell apart.

Sometimes the male population at the track needs a smack upside the head, preferably with a large club, oh, let's see, 4"X4"X8' to make a suitable impression. Fortunately, I never had any horses with real bad names, worst was probably Dardick Bo Bo, and in all these years, I have never owned or even looked after a Senga horse, very odd since I am in the west.

Yes the Make A Deals do leave a lot to be desired don't they! ICK! Friend of mine had one and well lets just say he "wasn't" pretty. They rank right up there with the Topnotchers, although we did manage to breeed a decent one named Bayvint Maddog. Hint-read maddog backwards and that was what we said when he managed to qualify! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

I agree about the males on the track. I worked for Randy Waples-can you say not fun when he was training and driving. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Now I adore him, of course I don't have to work with him now either.

I seemed to get stuck with a few mares that had questionable names like

Oh and the one male who was really bad was Doug Brown with the Ty mare until I told him I brought the rope! He blushed and never made another reference to her name. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Cunning Stunt was a jumper in these parts and caused much distress to announcers.

A friend went to look at a QH mare to buy a great many years ago and was shocked to learn her name was Meat Hook Rosie....had to be named by drunken men on a Saturday night or something....dreadful indeed.

My daughter wanted to give one of our jumpers a german name which translated meant somersault.....as the rider I utilized my power of veto.

There is a TB here currently named Culinary Delight

Men should really not be allowed to name horses. my Husband wants to name a race horse Passing Wind. When my colt ws born, that was his suggestion, even though the colt was an Anglo Trakehner. Needless to say, he was eliminated from the name pool! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif

My hubby watches the races on T.V. sometimes and told me about a horse named Square Wheels. I seriously doubt we'd bet on that one!

BIG bay timber horse - a total "man's horse" - called Stephanie's Peanut. ICK
Salem's Starlet - actually was pretty witchy, if I remember correctly.
I am spacing out on some of the others that have always appalled me - but wasn't there a mare a few years back named Cold as a Witch's .... ??

I galloped a filly named Pointe Milou - she was just 'the Gone West' when I was galloping her. By Gone West, out of ...

Testy Trestle.

Which is a name that made me go http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif. By Private Account out of Trestle. I guess the mare could be a real wench or something - her baby was sweet as pie & one of my favorites to gallop.

quote:
There is someone in Area V named Hurricane that shows, Andimthepope.

If it's the same horse, he's going Intermediate as "YeahandImthepope." Beats my old horse, who came to us as "Spagetti Sunshine."

My favorite name story is of a English gelding who was imported by a friend of mine. Horse had the registered name of "Kuma" which seemed innocuous enough . . . until we found out that Kuma in Swahili (language spoken by horse's original owner) identifies a particular part of the female anatomy. Not that there are too many Swahili speakers wandering around horse shows, but still.

This is not about a racehorse name, but I could not resist. Long ago, we got a new school horse at the barn where I took lessons. I asked my coach his name and she said, "Neater." I told her that was strange and she said his full name was Neaterthanshit.

One must think when looking at a horse in motion, that it hears music inside its head.

"Broken Wishbone" , nothing to do with either side of his parentage. But one of the best horses you'd ever hope to own.

Ok my ex-show hunter that we called "Strut My stuff" his Reg TB name was Hacks Dream (and this was before computer hackers)
The worst names come from some of the sale horses:

Exorcist
Immyowngrandpa
Killer
Pootang

They were very bad names and some VERY nice horses. Then all the usual race horse names:
Jennys Girl
Hopalong
etc

There wer some horses that raced at Suffolk Down in Boston a couple years back (mid 90's) named:

Chubby
Chubette
Chubby Hubby

Chubby and Chubette were from the same mare ancd Chubby Hubby was a Wild Again colt..

never name a racehorse with "chubby" in it..its pointed to failure!!

One of my OTTB's , who turned out to be one of the sweetest hunters I've ever owned ( and a wonderful brood mare), was named "Stunad".
Her show name was "Hard Knock Life", and her barn name was, and is still, just plain. "Annie".

FYI, "Stunad" means "stupid" in Italian. She is far from that!

Worst name of a horse I ever had to paddock "Nip Pulls"
worst race- hot summer day, white silk shirt, cold, hard rain,
really long walk past the throngs wearing same, with that horse. The announcer had BIG fun.
