View Full Version : Where to find EEE-only! vaccine.

How frustrating, I can't seem to find EEE vaccine only, the ones I find all have Tetanus combined.
Even my vet office doesn't have it as a single.
Anyone has any idea where to find this?
I don't understand why it's so hard to find. Some areas have to vaccinate horses for EEE fall & spring, but it's totally unnecessary to vaccinate for tetanus twice a year.

Intervet, I believe, was the last one to make an EEE/WEE vaccine without tetanus, but they stopped making it a couple years ago. Our vet practice has been unable to find any for the few clients who did not want to give a second tetanus with the encephalitis vaccine.

We do EEE and WEE three times a year here, and we do the vaccine with tetanus. It's really not a big deal to just give the tetanus too.

I have to disagree here, over vaccinating is a serious problem. My vet also has had problems locating it....If anyone finds it please let me know....

Intervet used to have Encevac, but KnRponies is right, seems they now only make Encevac T:(.
I've searched everywhere now and not available, grrrr.
There's no need for a horse to need Tetanus more then once a year.
Whilst vaccinating is a good thing & a must overvaccination is not doing the animal any favors, especially those that already struggle with the basic ones needed and don't do well on combos.
But seems little choice left.

I think I'm pretty well known for being minimal-vax obsessed...
But I had the opposite a couple years ago. Tetanus shortage, so the puncture wound boy got his E/W/T again.
I agree with not over vaccinating, but somtimes you just gotta.
Is the horse sensitive to Tet?
Also, you're in NJ, is is PRESSING to do the EEE now? Or could you wait a few months and then do the E/W/T in the spring as normal?
It's been a while since I've seen single dose, and I get most all of the vet catalogues...

Tetanus is usually quite easy on the horse, but if there's one vaccine that doesn't need it multiple times a year it's definitely this one.
He's not necessarily sensitive to Tet or EEE, but used not do so well when he got several combos (never really figured out which combo was the problem), so I split as much as pos and if not needed I'd rather not unnecessary double a vaccine, but if there's no other way.... :(
I was only going to vaccinate for EEE in April (just getting organized early :)), but I may push it back to mid-June and only do once for the entire summer/fall season unless I can find it as a single.

My point was that it's more important for me to give the EEE/WEE/WNV three times a year, even if the tetanus isn't necessary, than to risk them being unprotected. It's not like the tetanus is that much of an addition. So I give that one as a combo three times a year, and then break the others up (rabies, strangles).

To my knowledge there are currently no EEE/VEE vaccines on the market that do not contain tetanus. This is probably because of the minimal demand for the vaccine without tetanus. It is cheaper for most companies to produce the one with tetanus as most people purchase that one.

I've only been able to find the EWT. Does someone have a link to the vaccine that is just EEE & tetanus?
