A former boarder left behind a Baker blanket that she didn't want. I'd like to start using it but I don't know if it's a mid or a heavy weight. Do Bakers come in different weights or just one standard? Anyone know the insulation value of them?

As far as I know Baker has only ever made a sheet, a blanket and a turnout. Back in the old days (before they even made a turnout) we used the blanket all winter long so I think it was meant to be a heavy weight. I think it would fall somewhere in between what we now call medium and heavy. I use one on the pony I ride and he is toasty warm except in the coldest weather (20's and below), when I put him in a 450 gram Turtleneck.

Baker makes a stable blanket, a turnout sheet, and a heavyweight turnout. I love them all. :D
The heavyweight is a very heavy blanket--I believe it's 300g of fill. I use it into the single digits and below and my horse stays perfectly warm and dry underneath.
Anything over 25 degrees, though, and I take it off--it's too heavy for higher temps.

The Baker turnout is 440g. For some reason I just assumed the OP was referring to the stable blanket. I love Baker blankets too.

Thanks for correcting me. After I wrote that I thought....hmmm, I don't think 300 is right. :)
