I have a couple of questions on Rambos... It's been several years since I've purchased a Rambo and I've never purchased one for my current horse - a beefy draft cross. I believe I'm going to get him a Rambo XL lightweight sheet but I need some insight into sizing... He wears an 86" in the 2" increment blankets. If I remember correctly, Rambos run a little large. Is this the case? I just don't know if I should order him an 84" or an 87" Rambo.

Also, who has the best pricing on Rambos? The best price I've found so far is $245 with free shipping with Adams Horse Supply.

Thank you!

It might be worth asking at one of the sites that has live Customer Service. I have been told the Rambos are measured differently - wither to tail down the back rather than chest to tail around the side - but I haven't looked into it to confirm or deny.

That said I have a 76" horse whose 75" Rambos fit perfectly, and a 69" pony who needs a 72"! The 72" is on the big side but the 69" is too snug in the chest and slightly short to the tail.

I am a Rambo dealer. Measure from the front center of the chest around the point of the shoulder; around largest part of the butt to the middle of the tail. Round up rather than down.

I have 2 Rambo XLs for Brigitte. They were true to size, she measured a 78 and the 78 fit great. The extra cut of the XL was perfect, she needed the xtra room. Got both from Classic Saddlery in MI.

We moved your thread here to Horse Care, where it's the best fit, and got rid of the non-starter in Off Course. :)

Thanks!

The Rambo XL turnouts run larger than normal Rambo turnouts. My very large bodied warmblood needs an 86 in "other brands" (and even that is often too tight) and is best in a size 87 in most Rambo turnouts. In the Rambo XL line, he fits beautifully in the size 84. The XL is a lot WIDER and a lot longer in the DROP. It's for full bodied horses. So unless your horse is very very LONG, I would suggest trying the size 84 in the Rambo XL. I think the 87 will be too big unless what you're looking for is added length. I truly cannot imagine a riding horse big enough for the Rambo XL in 87. That's draft horse size-- BIG draft horse!!!

Adams will match any price, too, if you can find a better deal. Great customer service.

There are dealers/tack shops on eBay with great prices.

I got a med wght. rambo turnout with leg arches late last winter for, I think, $165.00 fom myhorseblanket.com under their "specials". It was quite a deal and I think shipping was free. I have never seen anything better than that. I believe I googled Rambo horse blankets on sale and then jumped around for a while but the time spent was surely worth it. You might try posting with the title WHERE CAN I GET THE BEST etc

I got the Rambo original turnout sheet (the green with red trim) - my horse wore a 78" blanket, and I got the Rambo in 78 also - it fits him perfectly. I think I paid around $209 at Dover?

There is a great sale on Rambo's at The Hitching Post -- which, of course, I missed. They are great to work with and always send Tootsie Pops!

Well, I'm a tad irritated because I just bought a blanket from them a week ago and paid $209 for it. Yes, it's a great deal - but now they're selling for $175. I had to haggle with them over the price too.

I'm in the same boat as you, Big Mick. I guess we just timed our shopping wrong. Still in all, I love buying from them. Next time, I'll just wait for a February sale!

Try this site. It's direct from Horseware. It will tell you how to measure exactly :)

If you live near the SmartPak store, check them out. I just bought the Rambo original with LA in the heavyweight from their blanket clearance section for $125. Blanket was new in bag, quite the bargain! I really want a midweight in the same style, but don't actually NEED it as my horse already has a fairly new midweight, just not a Rambo...these prices are tempting though...

IME they run one size smaller the Weatherbeetas.

I actually have an 84 Rambo Supreme in my basement that's too small for both my guys. I have forced one in them, but his butt was sticking out, so I figured no good.

Actually when you measure my guys from chest to tail they come up 84 and as long as the horse stands up straight the blanket will be a good fit. The moment they graze the blanket gets pulled forward and they become a size too small, especially with the Rambos & Rhinos.

I truly cannot imagine a riding horse big enough for the Rambo XL in 87.
No, not really, mine are 18hh's warmbloods not draft horses & the drop on the Rambo XL's is just not long enough, we are still having the mini-skirt effect. Yes the XL's are WIDE in the shoulder and I'd only go with an XL if you have a draftsized chested horse. As for back lenght they really don't run large at all ime, and they have an annoyingly short tailflap. When horse put his butt in the wind, it'll blow underneath his tail if you don't take a long enough blanket size. Weatherbeetas are much better for that.

OP, if your horse wears an 86 otherwise, I'd go with an 87 Rambo if it were me.

For Rambos, measure center of chest across point of shoulder to tail. Take measurement and subtract 4" for turnouts. Example: Our mule measures 75" and I subtract 4" to get 71" ---- round up to his Rambo size of 72" --- rambos run in increments of 3 inches.

Hope that helps.

I would suggest the 84 Rambo XL first. I also have found that the Rambo XL run a bit bigger than the regular Rambos (and other brands). My guy would take an 84 in a regular Rambo (but it was too small in the neck) and Weatherbeeta (at least those I know of, prob others) but an 81 Rambo XL fits him nicely.
