I'd love to hear your opinions, stories, remarks, etc on these two stallions:

Beaulieu's Coolman

and

Quidam De Revel

Has anyone ever bred to him?

I have a Verdi (Quidam de Revel son) gelding who is just a little over 2 years old now (late foal / Sept). He has a fantastic personality and has been maturing very "evenly". He really has not had any akward stage. He is a beautiful mover and I have been very impressed with him.

I would love to directly breed to Quidam de Revel. I am little biased towards French lines though :)

B.'s Coolman: You should contact Denny Emerson (Tamarack Hill Farm / http://www.tamarackhill.com/index.htm). He has a few eventing prospects sired by that stallion. Coolman is certainly an easier and cheaper venue to Quidam de Revel. He appears to produce horses that are brave, have nice movements and that can jump. I have seen this stallion up close a few times. He is nice looking, has plenty of substance and is quite tall.

We have pictures of several Coolman babies on www.tamarackhill.com.
Quidam de Revel is enormously expensive, if you can even get semen.

quidams jump very well, often at the top of the sport, but for breeding it is not infrequent that there are type issues. they can be small with ugly heads and difficult rideability. if you get a good one, fantastic, and it will command a big price (maybe just enough to recover the stud fee). to me, better to find a son of quidam who has shown the qualities of the father but not the problems. we have used quinar multiple times in our jumper breeding program and are very happy with the results.

It seems that Quidam is not available any more, he's having health problems and have not been freezed for many years and the there is probably no more frozen semen available.

I have been in touch with many Coolman fillies last year when I purchased my Conquest filly at Beaulieu's Farm. I was in the field with a bunch of yearlings and 2 y.o. They were super curious and quiet despite being barely handled. They all were of beautiful refined type.

I also lurked in the colts paddock and the same comment came to my mind: they are all quality animals.

I attempted to a judging clinic 2 years ago an one of the demonstration horse was a green 4 y.o. Coolman mare that behaved like a pro. She had superb gates and nice form over fence. Though she was more hunter type than jumper type.

Quidam de Revel frozen semen is still avaliable via Windsor Farms. I believe last I checked he was at 8500 a dose!!

On Denny Emerson's recommendation, we visited Ferme Beaulieu and bought Cool Kid as a 3 year old. He's by Coolman out of Nixe. Kid was barely started under saddle, Eli was 14, and under Carlo's watchful eye, Eli rode the youngster indoors at a canter, a first for for the horse, but typical of his mindset and willingness.

Kid's six now. Totally laid back; nothing fazes him. He's very athletic, got a great jump. Eli competed him lightly last summer in eq, hunters, low jumpers, evented, and even rode him in a Geo. Morris clinic this last November. Both horse and rider are in dressage training this winter, and Kid's canter is finally becoming adjustable and the strength in his topline is such that he is finally comfortable getting underneath himself for extended periods. He's taking a long time to mature--two more years, I'd bet--but it's worth it. He's a very special horse and will make a terrific ammie ride.

We agree with Ne1 in regard to Quinar. We have bred to him three times producing two fillies with a third sibling on the way. The dam is a grand-daughter of Zeus (SF) with E line Hanoverian (think ET (Hugo Simon), Edgar (Joe Fargis), etc), Gotthard, and W line Hanoverian (back to Ferdinand) in addition to old sport horse TB lines (Princequillo, Nasrullah, Teddy). Both fillies are gorgeous, limber athletes and garnered high scores and much attention at their Holsteiner inspections. They also seek every opportunity to take flight over anything on the ground. We could not be happier!

Good signals from a futur jumper with excellent jumper lines.
Congrats.

quinar is an example of the holsteiner breeding experiment working. (and yes, there are examples of experimental stallions on the holst mare base which have not worked).

quinar had the 5yo young jumper champion in lanaken in the fall, the then-record-setting son quick nick sell for E400k in neumunster and has consistently shown he can make difficultly conformed mares better, especially in the legs. he adds blood and modernises but does not bring the problems quidam does, ie small and sometimes ugly. (his sons for the last three years in neumunster have been better than quidam's) temperaments have not recieved bad reports, although quinar himself as a youngster was a handful. now he is a stately gentleman hacking around with whoever is on his back.

for sure his dad left some big shoes to fill, but so far this guy is bringing it, and i for one am going to make the most of the opportunity that he is here for fresh semen as there have been rumblings about the farmers in holstein wanting him back. i have one due from him in 7 weeks.

just one other to watch, whose production has been excellent the last couple of years is quintero, who has been getting it done both in the breeding shed and also in top sport....

Quidam Junior. He is owned by Spy Coast Farm and for those that are all about the dam line, his is one you need to look at. His dam, Narcotique and her dam were both international jumpers. Narcotique has had 7 foals and ALL of them have jumped at the Grand Prix level. The genetic value in this horse is just amazing.

I have seen this stallion in the flesh just this past weekend. He has an attractive head, a kind eye and very strong back.

He jumped Grand Prix tracks with Shane Sweetnam and is now doing the high junior jumpers with the owner's teenage daughter. He is extremely rideable and is a true partner on the jump field.

Narcotique's dam is even more famous, the great Bourrée is considered as one of the greatest mare of the Selle Français SB, she gave birth to multiple GP horses and all the daughters where top performers and very successful as broodmare.
A SF dam line can't get any better:cool:
If such a stallion was standing in France, he would get a lot of breedings, as this pedigree is probably the best you can fing for a SF jumper.
Congratulation to the owner who could get such a stallion to the US.

Denny Emerson on Beaulieu's Cool Skybreaker, yesterday, over the yellow fence. He is by Beaulieu's Coolman X Une Beaute by Heartbreaker. Skybreaker will be 5 in August.

The cross country picture is of Daryl Kinney riding Beaulieu's Cool Concorde, also by Coolman and out of Jurella, by Concorde. This was taken at Huntington Farm in August. Cordie will be 5 in June.
