Ok, this one is funny because of the rider.. Peter Pletcher had a horse for a while that had a heart brand, and they called it Heart On (think PP), and he had another one called http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Lickalottapuss.

John Anderson's farm in Alberta(?) is called Tyrell.

I get an ironic snicker everytime I see that because it is close to the name of a low cost dog food that use to be produced here ( tyrells).

bad association.

I showed an arab/appy mare with the show name Itchy. She loved to be scratched so it was decided to call her Itchy (her real name was Duchess). My thoroughbred's show name is Farscape. It is from the scifi show called Farscape. His stable name is Talyn which comes from a character on the show.

Here's a story:

Guy has a mare for sale. Lady shows up at the barn looking for a nice safe trail horse. The lady was a bleach blonde, wore tons of make up, and had on tight jeans and top. So the guy gets on his horse and lets the lady mount up on the mare. They start off on a trail ride and come to a creek. The guy's horse walked on through to the other side but the mare halted and hesitated, something she usually didn't do. The guy says angrily, "Dammit Bimbo!! Would you come on!?"

Yep, you guessed it. The mare's name was Bimbo...something he hadn't mentioned to the lady.

Needless to say, she didn't buy the mare and drove off in a huff. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

I also know a horse whose show name is Birthday Suit and another named Bathroom.

I also knew a lady on my show circuit named Julie Parr and her horse's name was Parr For The Course.

and finally, at a show at the beginning of the year, the announcer mis-read a horse's show name as Sir Sucks Alot instead of Sir Sock Alot. we all laughed really hard.

quote:

I owned a large pony in the early 1980's named "Roseann Roseanna Danna"! Some of you are not old enough to know who that is--it is a character on the show "Saturday Night Live" played by the late Gilda Radner. Just a little trivia!

I've never been a fan of the bathroom humor or the naked names but... guess I'm just a prude at heart.

My all time favorite that I've heard of but not seen is Juan Cannemara. (Now I'll be singing that for days!)

When I was a ws there was a horse named Oops. The story goes he slipped off the trailer ramp when he arrived.

I don't know if this is a real name but a while back my friend told me about a horse named "Annie's Hootin' Hollow's Hootenanny"

Apparently from a barn named "Hootin Hollows" and owned by a girl named "Annie" Whether it's true or not I dunno, but she swore up and down it was...

Anyway my horse has a boring name, but due to the price of these horses if I ever buy another I was thinking of calling it "Tax Refund" LOL. Since that's about what they cost.

When my daughter was in college she rode a mustang that belonged to a friend whose daughter was still too small and inexperienced for him since he was really quite green..She did everything on him at local shows and rode him as a AA jumper at rated shows. She even took him to a Dressage show once and did a lower level musical kur to George michael's "You gotta have faith!" Though his name was changed to Onyx when the child finally got to ride him, he was called Under New Management while my daughter showed him...even appeared in a segment of Mac'n'Mutley in the SF Bay Area..Just a cool horse he was!

These are great!

My friend once leased an eventer whose name was "Bail Out." With good reason, as he could be a nasty...in addition to packing at 100 mph cross country, regardless of what bit was in his mouth! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I personally showed a horse named "Remote Control" in Short Stirrup. It was only funny because, most of the time, he was anything BUT controlled! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Standardbred names, IMO, are even worse than Thoroughbred names. There is a stallion at my barn named "Such A Hoot," and his barn name is "Hooter." Another auspicious name was "No Sex Please." And finally, the Hall of Fame broodmare "Flat Foot Fluzy." Say that three times fast...and if you know what "fluzy/floozy" means, well, it's worse. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Chasing Tail

We have a medium pony at my barn named Atila the Dun. And my friend has a chestnut racehorse by a stallion named England. Her husband is a history buff and wanted to name the horse EthelRed, after a king in England. They submitted the name to the jockey club and were shocked to find that the name had been taken already. Seeing as how he was born and raised in Kentucky, they decided that the name EthelRedneck was fitting. He is a favorite among bettors at the track.

Oh I could write a novel on funny horse names... My old hunter's barn name is Thistle. I hated it when I got him, but it does kind of suite him. I used to show him as "Feeling Free" because my trainers last name is Free, and Thistle's racing name was Feeling His Oats - his mama;s name was Feeling Her oats.

We had some CUTe pony names, back when I was showing. I remember there was this one pony named Jamocha Shake. She was an odd color, and I cant remember who rode her, but the ride wore glasses. I just loved the pair. Then we had a palamino pony in our barn named "Sunny Side Up" Her barn name was Ducky, because when the people got her, the pony's name was "Rubber Ducky" I have a 6 year old pony who's barn name is Happy. Its funny because she can be such a witch, lol, but her show name - when I find a Jr to start showing her for me that is - will be Happy Annaversary since we found her - and later bought her - in our front yard 2 days before our first wedding annav. Our 3 year old TB's Reg name is Delightfully Irish (I named her) and her barn name is Maggie Mae. At the racehorse farm I galloped at, the barn names woudl get pretty creative, and always seemed to be themed.

There was the food theme: Porkchop, Sugar, Yum-Yum, Chocolate, Turkey, Strawberry...

Then during the O.J. Simpson case - O.J., Kato, Lance (Ito), Marcia...

The Britsih Theme - Dianna, Harry, Will, Charlie...strangly enough, Dianna died suddenly and way too young. It was the day after I had ridden her for her first time :-(

Oooh! I know a hose ho got called Spoon! He had a stripe in the shape of a spoon -- round at top with a narrow strip connected to it. He was a breeding stock paint -- dont know what he got registered as tho.

And at the same barn the mare "Madonna" had a foal which was then named "Lourdes". I thought that was cute.

Oh and then there was an Appy x Trahkener with a beautiful roan butt [LoL] and his name was Aroan Again. It was supposed to be like "Alone Again". I nevere quite got the connection but that's alright http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And then there was the wonderful Macgoo who'se show/race name was Mykanu. That had some interesting announcer mistakes. we had "My Canoe", "Mike an' You" and "Mackinaw". We all died laughing at the first two mainly because the idea of naming a horse "My Canoe" is just flat out funny and then the 2nd one b/c our trainer's son's name was Mike and he was always our groom at shows...anyways we thought it was funny.

Here's some:

*Licensed Driver - a chesnut pony that I owned... and named... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif It was changed to Toy Time after about a year, lol

*He's Got Major Moves - nice nice gray horse that I saw at my state 4-H show this year, however, one time, the announcer butchered it to say *He's Got Big Boobs*

*Anna Nicole - pony that was owned by a friend of mine (that I again helped name), and she was named that because of her obnoxious personality

*Hot Sex - gray jumper (I think) that I saw at HITS Catskills last year

*Grumpy - gray pony jumper taht was at the barn I used to board at, again, mean nasty mare that fit her name very well (but AMAZING jumper)

hmmmm... I *think* that's all I have for right now, but if I remember any more, I'll let you know.
