:( I have been seeing this problem for a few years now. Never on the Rambo or Amigo. The small check navy and checked green from a few years ago and more recently the big brown and green checked ones. You can put your fingers right through the material. I have seen two bought at the same time and one is fine..the other starts tearing and shredding within a short period. I would like to hear from others that have had this problem. I just had this dicussion with another blanket washing service last month. They have been seeing it too.

Yes, have had that issue with the plaid fabrics on the Rhinos not being as durable -- esp the olive green and brown plaids that I think were last year's version. I seem to recall a discussion on here (COTH) about it and speculation that is why they went on sale at closeout prices so quickly. I have some, but bought them for young horses at cheap prices knowing that I probably wouldn't get a lot of use out of them. Just hoping they would last long enough to cover the youngsters until they grow out of them.

I have had the same issue with both the green and the brown plaid ones.:(

Has anyone had any luck getting Horseware to stand behind this problem? I am fining in the brown check that it is the lighter brown (rust) part of the material that is shredding. You can put your finger through it. I have seen too many with my blanket cleaning that I have decided I should speak up. Have a call into Horseware. I have three blankets here now that are all doing it. There is no way to repair it since whatever you sew to it, just encourages the material to keep shredding.

UGH! I hope this isn't the case. I bought the Rhino Wug (brown plaid) on clearance last fall. :(

I think the plaid or checkered parts get stuck and snag on things...I realize that sounds a bit stupid, but I believe the thread used to make the patterns ends up making the fabric less durable. My Rhinos all look like crap  I have had far better luck with the Amigo products. Unfortunately, Amigo only goes up to size 84. Big Mama is an 87, so I either have to shell out the $$$ for Rambo or but a Rhino and pray. So far the Rhino plus praying has been very ineffective. At first, I thought my mare was just very hard on her clothes. My gelding got a new heavy weight Rhino and within a day he had pulls in the fabric. My gelding is very easy on his clothing.

Well, that makes my mind up for me: I was about to get a Rhino sheet to replace an old Dover one, but I think I'll go with the Amigo now...

What ever you do don't try to fix it with an iron on patch. I do ALL my blanket repairs with iron on denim patches.... well just FYI Rhinos melt.

Only brand that has tried to melt so far so be for warned.

Yep, the green plaid one just shredded, fell apart. The brown plaid rhino did the exact same thing, just fell apart in shreds.

The green checked Rhino I had was a piece of crap that did not even make it through one season with my mare who is easy on her blankets. Had to have it patched multiple times in its first season and have not used it since. Blanket repair lady said she was doing lots of repairs on these.
Called Horseware and was told even though the blanket was in its first month of being used, that they would not do anything unless the problem was a problem with a seam or the hardware- I guess it does not matter that the entire blanket was made out of crappy material. So much for the wonderful horseware warranty.
I will never buy another Rhino again.

I have a blue/tan patterned one that I bought this year. It's held up fine. There is a small hole in it but the boys play really rough and I see them dragging each other around by their clothing. So honestly, a 1 cm hole isn't that bad in my book.

Maybe the fabric issue you're all having is in the older rhino's. It sounds it. I remember the green and brown ones from the past few years and I almost bought one. I bought my navy one this year and so far, it's been alright.

I've got two brown plaid Rhino wugs from last year at the farm that are doing well (they're being poured on as I type). I also have a blue plaid mid weight with neck cover from last year that's been great! I did have a couple problems with the way the velco was sewed on (poorly), but Horseware took care of that.

I hope they hang in there....

Huh. I have a couple of the olive tartan in different weights (one is a year or two old) and they seem very tough. But....I have a neck cover that my horse wore once and it shredded (also olive tartan). Bad batch??
