*EA*- good to hear! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

amy- thanks http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
tho I guess i should've knocked on wood after i posted that, cuz we had a bit of a bolt today http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I've been using a crop to get him used to the whip, and today i decided to introduce him to the whip... He was fine when it was rubbed all over him and tapped him, etc. but when we were walking by the mirror where he tries to come off the wall and i made him stay bent and tapped him to move back over to the wall and he got a little too excited. I stayed on and he was fine and calmed down and then went to work like a gentlemen, getting some excellent leg yeilds for it being the 2nd day working on them and some baby shoulder fores. His canter work today was swell and I can't wait to get this guy out on a XC course!

I AM IN LOVE WITH MY HORSE! Even though he bolted I could feel it in him that he didn't want to hurt me, and he's so sweet and lovey to me. Trots up to me in the pasture and watches me and nudges me. ooooo i could go on about him all day! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

We did a coffin!
We did a coffin!

OK, so it was a stupid little coffin we built at home with stadium fences and a ditch. But...it was a coffin. It had all the requisite parts: a jump, one stride, a ditch, one stride, a jump. And after my horse got over his *horror* at the idea of stadium fences in the XC field, he did very well.

It's awesome seeing him figure out questions like this. The first time through he was all over the place (it's amazing how much I had to steer to go in a straight line!), the second time was pretty "normal", and from the third time on, he had it figured out and was *really* taking me to it.

I think it's really good for me as well because I've always had trouble riding ditches like a regular fence. Any other jump I'd be sitting up, keeping my leg on, finding a distance...but if it's a ditch, I always want to leave him alone and let him figure it out. This has been a great exercise because it FORCES me to ride the ditch like it's a normal fence.

Next step...barrels (so he can't see the ditch as we're coming to the first element)!

My Horse is finally coming around! I got him about 3 months ago when he could barely trot he was so uncoordinated. I waited until 2 weeks ago to start cantering him, and within a week of starting to canter on the flat, we were working calm, controlled, and correct 2' courses. I took him to camp and he was such a trooper through it all, I was just amazed! He was so adjustable and took every single jump in stride, his canter was very controlled, and the trainer said, "WOW! He has so much potential, and I give you credit, he is one difficult ride." All of my friends wanted to hop on and take him for a spin.
I'm so proud of us, we've come really far. In the last 3 months he has gone from a pathetic downhill QH to a future eventer with athleticism to spare, and I've gone from a "sit there" rider with almost no jumping experience and no confidence to a rider who can positively influence a difficult horse and make something of a greenie.
I'm just so excited http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well I was told my mare was running around her paddock. She looked good leaping in the air, bucking and rearing... she'll be feeling it tomorrow. Next vet appointment is 6/23... I hope it's good news!

Also... it seems like I'm going to be visiting my buddies and working down in good ol' Frankfort, KY for a couple weeks until Wayne HT! YAY! It should be a blast.

Today I was crazy enough to get on my very forward greenie bareback, only to find him soft, round, and engaged from the first trot stride. After I was done with him, I put my little cousin up there for a pony ride (he is 11, and its his first time on a horse) and Ollie slowed his massive walk stride down and was such a trooper. Yesterday I rode him and he got his bad lead first try, and even did some spiral and and out canter circles (a MASSIVE step for him) I'm so excited, he has come so far, especially since he has had a beginner teaching him this whole time.
Now, I think its time to throw some real jumping into the mix. We've done a few canter courses at camp, but now we have to add them to our schooling regime. I'm jumping trainer shopping as we speak, so hopefully I'll find the right one for us http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Last wknd at Erie we did fairly well (5th), but the biggest improvement was our stadium.
We have been working hard on it and went double clear! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif The course had been giving a good number of people trouble, so I was EXTRA happy that we handled it well! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

On a different note, I finally got my wisdom teeth out http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/dead.gif, but at least now that's over with and I'll never have to worry about paying big $$$ to get them out. My Mom just retired (school teacher) and I had until August to be able to use her GREAT dental insurance. My dentist said "be smart! get them out while you can still pay nothing!"...So I did. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif

A Happy and Safe Holiday Weekend, Everyone!!

I love this horse. Patrick hasn't been ridden since... March, I think. And October before that. First the heart problem, then he did something to his leg in February and I wasn't happy with how it was acting so I decided to just give him the summer off. Who wants to ride in this heat, anyway?

I check on him 2-3 times a week... I've got BIG stuff going on career-wise right now, so it all works out. Today I went to the barn early to give him a bath. Having been out of work for so long, he has lost *all* of his manners. (Well, I'm sure taking him away from his breakfast didn't help matters.) At one point I backed him up and asked him sternly, "What, are you FOUR?!"

Luckily it only takes a couple of reminders for him to straighten up. But he was still bad-- shoving me, pulling at my shirt, trying to drag me around. I can forgive him, he's otherwise perfect and he's a real pocket pony, he *loves* attention. And he's starved for it right now, but he's going to have to adjust.

Anyway, he was drying off, and I was debating putting him back in his stall, but I didn't want him to roll while he was still wet, so... "Oh, what the heck, why not?" I grabbed a Poly Pad, stuck my helmet on and put on his bridle. No saddle... too much trouble. We had a couple of discussions about standing still at the mounting block, but I eventually gave up when he paused just long enough for me to get a leg over. Then we had a couple of discussions about what "Whoa" means... he tends to be a little enthusiastic when you first get on. Not bad, but he is definitely Going Somewhere.

With that settled, he marched around on the buckle for 20 minutes before I convinced myself to get off. He's just... perfect.

Jul. 4, 2005, 08:23 PM
The coffin schooling has been going so well that my horse is becoming a coffin *machine*! (I only hope it holds up at the next actual coffin we encounter on course!) We currently have a half coffin and a full coffin set up next to one another (sharing the same ditch...it's a really long ditch). Today while jumping the half coffin (barrels in, ditch) he actually angled the ditch to the right in order to line himself up with the "out" element of the full coffin. I think he really understands the question now...it was like, "OK Mom, this is the third part, right?" It was very cool.

Next step is to mix it up with barrels, panels, etc. some more, and start incorporating it into little courses.

Jul. 5, 2005, 10:44 AM
I took my OTTB to a schooling two-phase nearby: first time she did a dressage test and the first course for us, so we did BN.

I'm so thrilled : she was a STAR! While we got some fours, we also got some sevens on our dressage test, and we STAYED IN THE RING!!

We pulled two rails in stadium (pilot error), but she jumped all of the scary things (and they were made to be really scary), and by the eighth fence was really jumping well.

I'm so very, very proud of her, that I had to share. Maybe King Oak BN this fall?

I schooled last night for a full half hour without any bucking. High point - newbie rider from my paddock watching and saying, "so, are you making him do that with his head down..." http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jul. 6, 2005, 11:50 AM
My happy news is that Brain has found a buyer. She rode him last Monday, did the vetting on Friday, and got the Xrays back yesterday (Tuesday). She is riding her current horse at Wayne this weekend, so she is going to pick him up when she gets back.

After reading all the horror stories about flaky buyers, I have to say that it could not have gone more smoothly, and she seems like a perfect home for him.

Jul. 6, 2005, 02:07 PM
Congrats, Janet! Now you'll have to change your signature line. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif By the way, how are the Sportscar babies doing?

GWV, your mouth to God's ears. I know there isn't a Master's Trophy for BN, so maybe we'll get to vie for it next spring. It's a wonderful prize that couldn't be presented by two nicer people.

Jul. 6, 2005, 02:30 PM
I trotted my mare Charm for 12 whole minutes this morning (3 four minute sets). Woohoo. She feels great and I can now see the light at the end of what has been a very LONG tunnel!

She's desperate to canter--and it takes a bit of riding to keep her from doing extended trot all the time! But she doesn't have too much longer to wait and I can't wait for her to be able to do hills so we can go out hacking (instead of just going around the flat field in front of the barn)!

She's been a star through all this re-hab!

Jul. 6, 2005, 03:12 PM
The Sportscar babies are doing fine. The only problem is that they are a bit TOO bonded to each other. I think Gillian is going to have to go through a second "weaning" process to separate them.

Gillian took them to the CDCTA Breeding Day "yearling eventers" class. No ribbons (it was a BIG class) but "Moto" was called as reserve.

Lots of happy news for me!

--> I had the most *amazing* jump lesson yesterday in, gasp, a SNAFFLE! Never would have thought I could have that much adjustability in a plain 'ole loose ring. It was a wonderful feeling. She took every fence in stride, on a beautiful canter. It felt like 'butta...

--> I picked up three dressage saddles on consignment today. An amazing amerigo (in great condition with a very low price) a prestige and a KN. I cant wait to give them all a try tomorrow. Hopefully one will fit!

--> I have a XC schooling on Tuesday at fair hill and I am, gasp, taking her in a snaffle! The last jump school went so well, my instructor thought we should try. Plus she will be there so if we revert back to old ways, I have someone to yell at me! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

My horse has been absolutly amazing all week. Foot-perfect in our dressage AND jumping schools. Im getting very excited for the next event. We are gonna kick some serious bootie!

Ohhh - I don't think I've ever posted on this thread before! I just post about my happy news, right?

---> I got on my 4 year old - yes, still unbroke - Arab/QH pony the other day and rode her around at the walk, and she was wonderful!

---> My wonderful farrier is buying my boss's 4 horses - all of them - so I know they will all be getting a great home, instead of being sold at an auction somewhere.

---> The pony I got on the Giveaway Forum, Tiger Lily, is still doing wonderful! Really, I think she'd make an awesome little eventing pony.

---> My little pony I have leased out is still doing great in their Therapeutic Riding Program.

---> My old Hunter is also getting along fabulous teaching a 13 year old girl how to jump.

---> BIG news: We have a NEW boss!!! He bought the farm a few weeks ago, and is awesome!! He wants to really spend the $$ to fix the place up, and eventually have boarders. I'm already planning on where and what kind of jumps I want to put on the trails - we have 750 acres, so lots of spots to choose from. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

What a fun thread!

My Happy News is that Mr. Blondie is off stall rest after the cortisone injection in his owie ankle, and he noodled around peaceably in the grass paddock with Prozac Pony.

This morning, I had my fourth ride on Mr. Peak, the 4 year old TB my friend Mel is loaning me to take to camp, and I think we're actually starting to communicate.

Off to camp Tuesday morning!

Jul. 10, 2005, 02:23 PM
Tess is making good progress in her trick training, due to vast quantities of time with no riding (sore back...again.)

I caught 2 waves last time I went surfing! YAY

My trainer has been asking me to school the evilest ponies in the barn lately, so I suppose that means I am getting to be good with greenies http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jul. 11, 2005, 06:58 PM
I had one amazing lesson on my horsie today, and a fabulous ride last night-the first time he'd been ridden/worked with/touched for 10 days. My coach was practically hugging me for how great we were doing. Half the lesson was spent praising my abilities. We'll just say this was a massive confidence booster for me, I doubt my riding abilities a lot, and many of the people I know from the horse world are less than impressed with me and my horse, and I've been told more than once I shouldn't be riding anything but schoolies. Maybe I should call it quits to this jumping thing, and start doing dressage.
Another Happy thought, I sent in the entry form to my VERY FIRST EVENT EVER!! We're hoping to do the very green division at a mini trial at south farm.

Jul. 12, 2005, 03:58 PM
I'm in the process of packing my tack trunk for the first event since August of 1998! We leave for Champagne Run on Thursday morning...I'm quite excited!

On another quite exciting note, upon my return from Champagne Run, I fly to Colorado on July 20th to marry the love of my life on July 22nd in Rocky Mountain National Park. He's been away since mid-June working at a golf course for the summer, and I miss him quite terribly.

Jul. 12, 2005, 06:59 PM
Happy news--I cantered my mare for the first time in SEVEN months. I see an end in sight to this rehab!!!! Bad news is I'm still stuck at work for several more hours which will make getting up tomorrow morning for her second time cantering a little tough but at least something to look forward too!!! (I hate it when work gets in the way of my life!!!)

Jul. 15, 2005, 04:34 AM
glfprncs - Congratulations!

Happy Birthday to Me!
Today is first day of the last year of my 20's!

Heading today to see my friend's new (human) baby and since she's finally feeling good after the C-section, we're taking her two OTTBs out for a nice gallop out on the beautiful GMHA trails!! (I have a feeling she's giving me the naughty TB since she just had surgery...that's OK!)

I had a great clinic on my "baby" with my Guru-Eric Horgan.

Dressage=push for more hold less (note to self, try not to be in a semi-private dressage lesson with super nice hanoverian mare ridden by a pro)

Stadium = ride with lots of confidence and he will figure it out (lots of green bean jumps, YIKES!)

XC = finally, I rode with some gusto and had A BLAST! He flew over the jumps with style.

Many thanks to Eric and THE WAGON!

Things are going really well with my horse. I think we are on our way (with the help of our new jumping instructor-thanks Megan!) to getting our XC on the right track! I had a really good school yesterday at Gemwood. We jumped a bunch of stuff I never would have attempted on my own, including a pair of big white ramps that were on the Training course (which he never even batted an eye at!) and the entire Training water complex, consisting of a log/drop in and a bending line through the water over some logs out (OK, so this one took several attempts to get right...it would help if I steered a little better http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif). He was a very good boy and I'm looking forward to Penny Oaks this weekend!

The Happy News:
All horses, dogs and people are OK.

The Sad News:
"Mary in Area 1" lost her brand new almost completed barn and indoor in Norwich VT last Thursday. It burned to the ground in about 30 minutes.
Please send Mary your good wishes and hugs.

I was there; nobody was hurt, we found temporary stalls for the horses right away - the entire community rallied to help out. But it was terrible - flames were 40-50 feet into the air as the barn burned.
Here is the link to the newspaper story:

Sorry to hear about your Barn, Mary.

I had a good lesson on Ollie today. He worked so hard, and while he got difficult at times, by the end of the lesson he was loose and swinging through his back and actually rounding at both the walk and trot, and got beautiful trot-halt transitions...perfectly engaged and dead square every time. We worked on his canter, and I have marching orders from my trainer to begin cavaletti work with him at least once a week, plus as much canter as he and I can stand, since thats the key to get him nice and loose through his back. We also found out he has an awsome reinback, from his western days I suppose.
Plus, He invited me to his main farm to ride some trained dressage horses, he wants to see what I can do with a trained horse. I'm excited, no one ever wanted me to ride a horse to see how good I was, and I've never been on an upper level horse in my life.

Aug. 13, 2005, 05:24 PM
My happy news for the day--my young mare that fractured her withers (getting cast in her stall) 3 weeks ago was feeling sooo good tonight that she jogged along side me a bit when I took her for her walk and was able to reach down and graze almost like normal.

My vet thinks she will recover fully and I could be riding her again in 5-6 weeks--after seeing how quickly she is progressing and how good she looks like now, I'm ready to believe him!!

My happy news... we made it on the USEA Senior BN leaderboard! Both my horse and my first year eventing!

We'll be at Penrose HT this weekend, unless we get rained out, fingers are crossed.

Aug. 18, 2005, 04:07 PM
My new critter- inspite of his neuroticness- jumped up a 3' bank today on his own free will, at a walk. Not intentional. When cooling out I just walked him over to it cuz I wanted to show it to him and see what he thought since he always snorts at it when we walk by. So I walked him up to it... and up he went! and he kinda looked back at me like "what's the big deal?"

I like his attitude http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

He's been a bit neurotic outside for the past while, but it slowly getting better and better. I jumped him for the first time in my lesson yesterday (6" jumps, lol, but jumps none the less!).

I think buying him was the best idea of my entire life. I love him so much! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I went schooling with my boy today, and it went very well. For the second week in a row we had only one stop, for which I promptly whipped his butt, and he was perfect the whole rest of the day. We even schooled the Training route through the water, which involved a big barrel table, three strides (?) to a decent-sized drop in. Hopefully he will continue to realize that stop = whip. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Aug. 22, 2005, 10:03 AM
More happy news! My OTTB went to her first ever HT (a little local schooling HT). Went BN and she didn't look at anything XC except the spectators.

Would have had a lovely dressage test, too if the local fire department hadn't set their grill up about 20 feet from the corner between A and F and tossed a rasher of bacon on just as we were going around the ring for our warmup. Can you say "fried"? Many horse were terrified of the hissing and the smoke, and just as many had clearly attended many backyard barbecues and ignored it.

Anyway, our next XC will be BN at King Oak. Can't wait to see you, GWV!

I guess I've saved up my happy news so heres a short list:
1. Daughter #1 qualified for next summers BN champships with her first show of the summer.
2. Daughter #1 finally bought a second horse who is not like anything we thought she wanted-
he's 3 years old, 16.3+ hands and growning and the most laid back animal I have ever seen. Nothing is an issue and we're having to really stop ourselved from doing too much with him as he's so willing.
3. Daughter #2 won her two divisions at our local dressage show on her lump of a horse. It just shows what hard work will do.

Life is good.

Ollie and I jumped our highest ever together today.
it was a 2'9 cone jump..he didn't even peek, and leaped over it no problem from the trot. The first time over he took it like a 4' oxer with horse eating pirrhannas underneath. He didn't hit a rail once today even over the x-rails i warmed up with, a HUGE step for him (he is usually very lazy). He was also bending at the poll and balancing on a loose rein within 10 minutes of the start of the ride.
I'm so excited, my rump high, homely, and exceptionally difficult horse is finally allowing me a glimpse of how good he can be. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I had the best timing today. Took my two horses on a hack--left when it stopped raining and it started raining right when I got back to the farm!

Also happy news b/c I was ponying (is that a word?) my mare off my 3 year old. She'd been injured but the vet said to start ponying her and in a few weeks I can get on her. This was our second time out and we trotted a little. She looked FANTASTIC. And the baby boy did pretty good as a pony horse--although he doesn't have her trot so it's a little hard for him! NOT the way I had imagained taking the two of out together but hey...it worked.

IT is REALLY nice to have two horses with such good brains!!

I have some happy stuff...

My horse has been off since about May with a strained check ligament, just recently (in the last month or so) has been back in work, sound and relatively sane...

I swear, he must have been reading or doing some serious thinking during his time off because we've picked up pretty much where we left off in May, which was the best he's ever gone. Got a new dressage saddle (Bates Caprilli), loving that, loving my horse, loving life at this point!

Hopefully we'll be starting to jump again this month, as well as attending a dressage show in early October. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I can't believe Happy News was all the way down on page 3!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

My happy news is that my horse finally seems to be recovering from his nasty bite wound (It's really only been a week, but it seems like longer). Another horse bit him on the butt in the pasture so hard that he has a deep muscle bruise! He's been short on that leg for a week (it happened 2 weeks ago, but he was without a shoe for a week so I didn't realize how bad it was) and today I finally saw some improvement! We'll still miss Flying Cross, but hopefully we'll be back on track for Jumpstart.

Sep. 12, 2005, 07:55 AM
I haven't posted in a while because life has been absolutely hectic, but I do have A LOT of happy news:

-I am leasing an 11yo TB gelding named Hagen who has done a lot of Novice. His owner went off to college in CA, and I was at the right place at the right time and got the ride on him. He is really talented and I'm excited about his future. We will do Training at Hunter Oaks HT (our barn's event) and Training at Team Challenge. It was nice to find something that had already evented a little after retiring my mare and not wanting to start from scratch if I had the opportunity not to (and to save my $$ for something really nice in a year or so!!).

-I got a working student position with Mollie Zobel and have been working for her for about a month and a half. Things worked out great because I get to work for her during the day at the barn I am already familiar with and I could keep my bartending job at night so I'm not completely broke http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I also got to stay in my college town with my friends and live in a great apartment instead of on a farm if I had taken a position elsewhere. Yes, the hours are long but I haven't been happier in a long time.

-We are going to Florida this winter and taking the horses!!!! I am sooo excited about this because I've always wanted to go but not had the money or been in school, etc. Mollie is close with Ralph Hill so we will be near him in Ocala.

Sorry for the long post but I just *had* to tell someone who actually understands! (my non horsey friends just smile and nod). Hope to get to meet many COTHers at Team Challenge next month!

Sep. 12, 2005, 08:42 AM
I had a GREAT time at King Oak yesterday and Barbara I think I saw you on Saturday and talked to your wonderful husband as well! I didn't even realize it until I started driving home! I said to myself "oh I think that was GWV and her hubby near the bounce jump!". Girl in the pink sunhat with the small child - that was me! My daughter insisted on climbing on every jump and jumping off the other side. When we got to 9A she couldn't climb up so we went to B instead and your husband said "oh that was a refusal!" I died laughing!

Happy News - my horse jumped clean in stadium and cross country - finally - no rails or time in stadium and a clean cross country with some time penalties (he was naughty coming out of the start box so that ate up a few seconds). But it's progress and I think the power struggles are becoming less frequent with him!

Sep. 12, 2005, 09:10 AM
Had a GREAT jumping lesson on Saturday!! Hauled Frankie to a friend's place so we could use her jumps and field for our joint lesson. Started out "interesting" as both Frankie & I seemed intent on JUMPING a ground rail, but a few appropriate comments and reminders from the instructor and we were calmly trotting over it as it should be. We worked our way up to the following grid:

ground rail
bounce distance
bounce distance
1 stride
1 stride
bounce distance

We finished by jumping the blue barrels she had set up in another area simply because I hadn't hauled my barrels out yet and I'm not sure if they will be on the course at the event this weekend. Frankie could have cared less and quietly and politely jumped over them with no fuss at all. While my friend was doing her thing, Frankie was practically asleep as we stood under the trees for some shade (when she wasn't sticking her nose down to smell the new smells). It was WONDERFUL!!

Sep. 12, 2005, 10:39 AM
My horse and I scored our first 9 in a dressage test on Saturday! Plus, we scored our personal best on one of our tests (71.9%), so I was tickled pink. My horse is awesome...he can do so well despite his useless lump of a rider!

Sep. 12, 2005, 02:22 PM
We had a great time at King Oak (see report on KO thread), but best of all got to see the GWV and GP. As noted on that thread, they never age and I do. Not entirely fair!

I rode my mare who fractured her withers this summer for the first time this morning. She felt great--was doing trot lengthenings trying to run away with me http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif She should fully recover--only issue now is with no withers, it feels like the saddle may want to shift from side to side http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Never had to deal with that before since I've always had high withered TBs but I will happily deal with that as long as she stays sound and happy!

Sep. 18, 2005, 08:40 PM
After a break of almost 2 years, Belle is back competing in Eventing.

She did 3 Training events in the fall of 2003. Then we lost most of 2004- First (April) they had to cut the center posts out of my trailer to rescue one of my sister's horses. And then, because of carrying two mortgages,, I couldn't get a new trailer.

When we sold the old house, one of the first things I did was to buy a new trailer, which arrived in October.

But in the beginning of November, Belle became intermittently (but quite badly, sometimes) lame. It took a while to diagnose (hairline fracture of the hind pastern), and then she had extended stall rest. She started back in work in April of 2005, but I wasn't allowed to jump her until late June.

I drpped her back to Novice for her first event back (Seneca last weekend), and then took her Training at Marlborough this weekend.

She was distinctly wired for dressage (the judge's comment as we left the ring was "She wants to go, doesn't she?"), but we were one of only 2 horses in our division (restricted Training) to go clear in Stadium, and only 3 went clear in cross country, so we move up to finish third. That qualifies us for the Area II Training Chamionships.

So she is definitely back on track.

My good news...V appears to have recovered from the Butt Bruise Incident! He's been back in work slowly for the past week or so; past couple of days I've pretty much been working him as hard as I was before it happened, and he seems to be just fine! He's been off Bute since early in the week, so I think we're in pretty good shape. It looks like he will be good to go for Jumpstart!

Sep. 27, 2005, 07:09 PM
I found a near-perfect schooling bank, ocurring completely naturally, outside my barn. I, being the XC nut that I am, took my greenie out and had a few tries over it. He jumped up and down very balanced and very relaxed each and every time. Then we headed inside for some dressage work, and shockingly he was going around soft and through and underneath himself in a mere 15 minutes at walk and trot, and had a few good canter transitions both into and out of the gait.
I'm thinking this saddle is magic..or it is relieving the back pain he's been having.

WOW the last time I posted on this thread is on page 20 and it's over two years ago! I am so glad to see this thread is going strong!

Had to post today because I just got a second horse last week and I LOVE LOVE LOVE him! He's my first greenie, a 4YO TB, and he is so entertaining - thinks the other horses in the ring are there to play with him, steering is a challenge, and canter transitions are goofy. But it is great to finish a ride and go home anxious for tomorrow so I can learn some more with him. That's what it's all about!

Haven't posted to the Happy News thread in awhile so I thought I would add!!!

My horse is safe and dry. He lives either at a barn in New Hampshire or Massachusetts and both barns are very dry and up to this point have had no flooding!!! The paddocks are squishy but that's all!!!

Even though I had a very rough season, my new coach area I are working very hard to improve my way of jumping. We have decided that my horse's and I's problems are mostly me which is great because I feel like with a lot of work I can fix myself over the winter.

I did have 2 fairly succesful events after my 2 rough ones and my coach and I have decided to come again at Prelim next year and then when all goes well, give Intermediate a shot (and it will be a succesfull shot; I'm going to do a lot of positive thinking between now and then). In July of this past year, I thought I wouldn't be able to get my horse around a training event!

I'm excitied that my horse and I are improving every day!!!!

I know it's going to be a long winter, but I'm excitied for the spring!!!

Oct. 25, 2005, 12:56 PM
I haven't posted here for a while either.. This weekend I jumped my mare for the first time since December. My friend who green broke her watched her go and said she looks great and moving/jumping the same way she did before her injury. WOOHOO! It's nice to have her back and feel like we are getting somewhere. Hopefully next spring I will have two competing after two years of having nothting competing http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Can we say I will be spending this winter stressing about getting in shape!!!!

Oct. 26, 2005, 09:52 AM
My horse is finally abscess free (after a 6 week or so lay off) and we had a lesson on Monday. Now to get ME back in shape....

Well I get to do the Lynn Coates Holmes clinic in November-that should be a ton of fun! And, despite the THREE, yes that's THREE horses with suspensory pulls at my barn and the other multiple lame ones, Allie is nice and sound (knock on wood). Yay!

This my first time posting here. I have checked this thread many times in the last month and have been tempted to post good news. This time I must post our great news! 5 weeks ago tonight at 9pm "free" had a severe stroke and was not expected to recover. Tonight she is doing very well in the hospital and is showing strong progress toward a "good" recovery. She is doing well physically and is starting to communicate with us. She answers questions by shaking her head yes or no. She also squeezes our hand or gives a "thumbs up" gesture to questions. We have witnessed a Miracle in her recovery!

Any more Happy News out there??

Nov. 15, 2005, 10:03 PM
Confirmed I am being made redundant yesterday (no, really, this is good news, I didn't like that job anyway!!!!). Also, after 12 weeks of post surgical rehab and general pain in the butt-ness, yesterday I drove my mother's car for the first time, and TODAY I snuck in a ride on Arnie. Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder!

Nov. 16, 2005, 04:26 AM
Haven't posted on this thread before but I thought I'd share my bit of good fortune with you all.

I needed to buy a recepient mare for one of my older broodmares and have been looking for a while to no avail - too old, too small, etc. Then I see an advert for TB mare with a free covering to one of my favourite stallions (I've had a son and a grand-daughter of his), only 5 yrs old, fully papered with Weatherbys, only £850 (the stallion's stud fee is £650 !)

So I troop along to see it, cash in one hand, lorry in the other (not literally of course http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif). There she is this poor, half-starved thing with mud fever on one hind leg and a deep cut to the other, looking thoroughly unloved. At least she's over 16.1hh though (I think to myself - trying desperately to find something positive to say!)

So I haggle a deal to swap the covering over from that mare to one of my other mares, and get her to reduce the price to £700. So I load my new pony into the lorry and bring her home thinking, "I'll get you fixed up, you'll be perfect for my job, and who knows if you shape up well enough I might even use my colt on you to breed some babies of your own".

Me being me... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I can't help but start digging around to find out more about this horse's parentage, siblings etc. After a few hours of digging, internet searches and phone calls, I find out that my £50 pony is actually the half-sister to a CCI**** star horse that competed at Burghley and twice at Badminton http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif hurrah !! My £50 pony gets better by the minute.... I knew she was nice ! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

If only all my horsey dealings went this well http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif !! I hope that gives a bit of hope to all of you who feel you never get a break ! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Nov. 23, 2005, 10:43 PM
On Monday our son arrived home safely from a 1 yr deployment in Iraq. Our daughter's horse is sound and we are all healthy and looking forward to what the next year brings!

Nov. 24, 2005, 09:32 AM
Very Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We're giving thanks for good friends, the health and wit to enjoy them, loving family and wonderful animals to share our good fortune with.

Funny you should mention giving back, Barbara. Of course I'll be doing some volunteering at an event, but my husband and I are going to sit down this afternoon and talk about how to focus our eleemosynary efforts this year.(I've always wanted to use that word in a sentence!) Where we can't give money, we'll try to give time.

And giving thanks for the people on this BB, their loved ones being safe (Yea Tuppy's Mom!), healing (Go Free!), and saving so many horses by giving them loving homes. (Way too many folks to mention here, but the CANTER and Exceller people all the way to individuals like jhodkin.)

My horse is a grump, and always has been. He isn't the type to be in your pocket, and usually he just plain puts up with me.
Today he came galloping from across his paddock to see me, where a promptly nudged me in the face and wanted his ears rubbed. Then we rna around and played "simon says." When I ran, he ran, when I stopped, so did he etc, it was so nice. My old horse used to do that, but Ollie never did and I've missed that kind of connection.

At this point I'm pretty sure I passed Organic Chem 231, as when I signed up for 232 it did NOT say "enrolled conditional", which if the college's new software or whatever is working correctly means that my teacher has put his grades in and that I PASSED!! Yeah me! Of course this says nothing about my other two lab classes (physics and comparative anatomy). Although I won't know my actual grades until they are posted for students (on the 20th), but on the day they are posted I'll be on a plane to...
Scotland for Christmas/Germany for New Years!! Although my mom got there today and she said the flight was a little rough. Yeah, so looking forward to that. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif
Anyway lets hope that when I check my grades it won't ruin my holiday!!

Dec. 17, 2005, 03:16 PM
This morning I RODE the horse that had such a severe injury 10 and a half months ago that I was being advised to put him down and who I was having quality of life concerns about as recently as April. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
We only walked this morning for a couple of minutes and it is not 100% clear if he can get strong enough to do more than the few laps around the ring that we did today but I don't care. If he never gets any better than this, that is fine. Thinking where I was with this guy last winter and where I am now brings tears to my eyes http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My horse SAILED over a 3'9" oxer last night like it was nothing. I've jumped him that high a couple of times before, but yesterday it seemed easy for him. Of course, that reminds me of the goal I set for us in the spring, to jump 4' by the end of the year (kind of silly, I know, but somehow it's a big deal to me). This is a little scary, because 3'9" looked pretty darn big (as someone said over on the H/J forum, "I came out of the corner seeing Jesus and Elvis.") But it's only one more hole! We can do it...we can do it...we can do it...

My horse is finally off stall rest after four months from a fractured knee. He's out in a small paddock with his favorite mare and all the hay he can eat. He's so happy...and so far sound!

And I started my new guy over grids yesterday and he was very sensible. We're shooting for a small CT in March.

wow, it's been quite a while since I visited the Happy News thread! I just thought I would throw in that Jelly is doing SO well!!! I rode him this morning and he was AMAZING! His dressage work has been improving by leaps and bounds lately. he still has a bad day thrown in the mix every now and then, but mostly up days. Today we did wtc work both directions, trot extensions, sitting/rising trot, etc and he was perfect! I kept throwing different things in the mix and he just took them and did beautifully! Never tossed his head in an ugly way, never came above the bit, just WORKED! Yay!

I filled out my entry for Ft. Rucker today!!! It opens a week from today. I'm so excited! We'll probably go school the coarse sometime in Feb. to patch up some things we didn't do as well in October. Yay! Back to competition!!!

Haven't posted Happy News for a long time, and I've been remiss, as life is wonderful.

Latest terrific happenings: new OTTB arrived on New Year's Eve, and she's a complete love. Her dam was a 'chaser in England before becoming a successful Prelim/Intermediate eventer. My mare was imported as a yearling, and was raced by that famous ex-eventer trainer, Tim Ritchey. (aka Afleet Alex's trainer) She gets a couple of months off, and then we'll start a program.

Meanwhile, we've spent the Christmas season trying to come to terms to buy another farm, and signed the P&S yesterday. We won't close until the end of May, but come summer, we'll have lots more turnout and (fanfare please) OUR OWN INDOOR!!!!!

Now all we have to do is sell our current place. If you know anyone looking north of Boston who wants 6 acres, 8 stall barn and a renovated antique house, send 'em to me!

Another Saturday of gorgeous and unseasonably warm weather here in New England, but this time I got in two wonderful rides.

(This was after landing smack on my back in the middle of the street a week ago: thank goodness I was wearing my hard hat!)

Can't wait for spring, but only a couple of more months of winter to get through!

Last night I had my first lesson in a couple months on Mo. He's been out of work due to a sore on his back. The lesson went great, he was so good! After a half hour of Dressage and the other half of jumping he wasn't even tired. He would've kept going if I asked him to http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I'm so happy that my boy is back http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Congrats on the sponsor! What are thinline pads?

I started riding Lita again and even took a couple lessons and she was fab! After more than 2 months off she remembers everything from last year, and she jumped right in the trailer to go to her lessons...I think she actually wants to go back to work http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

ThinLinePads are anti-microbial, shock-absorbing, high tech saddle pads. There are designs for western, australian, dressage, jumpers, etc. They're made right here in NC, but distributed nation-wide. The company's owner is an FEI level dressage rider herself. ThinLine also produces a variety of bell, galloping and jumping boots with the same anti-microbial and shock-absorbing qualities as their saddle pads.

AND it was none other than a COTH Lurker who introduced my proposal to the owner. THANK YOU COTH!!!

Whoops, I need to get into the habit of doing this: for more information, visit www.ThinLinePads.com (http://www.ThinLinePads.com). http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I schooled with one of my clinicians this past weekend.
We turned my novice champ boy into a training horse.
solidified leg yeild, started shoulder-in and haunches-in and stepped up the game in cross country.
we went from a lolly-gagging hunter loping over novice fences to a big bad eventing machine eating up the group over some scary training fences (weldon's wall, trakener, ABC water)

we will out this year at training in April!
(he's a five year old)

watch out

Feb. 15, 2006, 05:44 PM
Today was a beautiful sunny almost 60 degree day. I had the morning off from work, so I went out to catch the horse and saw that the mud was mostly gone! As a result we jumped our first XC fences of the year, and he was a MONSTER! (In a good way.) I've been able to tell jumping in the arena lately that he's really been eager to get out and gallop...he was happy to do that today!

And the tiny baby ditch that we built last fall, which he had a total fit about even walking over then (it's maybe a foot wide)--he saw it and absolutely locked on to it, jumped it both directions with no problem! Yay!

Hookedoneventing's "happy" news is just wildly, amazingly, happy! I would definitely do horse duty for you that weekend, if I weren't going to the self-same event that you had to pull out of.

I've known hookedoneventing since we were 11, so this news is as mindboggling for me as it possibly could be. Families are INSANE!!!!! I can't wait to hear all about that weekend. It will be so unbelievable. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Feb. 22, 2006, 10:03 AM
Wow! some serious good news.
good luck hookedoneventing.
My good news is about the same horse I posted about a few pages ago (bad accident, almost put down, told unrideable up until this December, recently put under saddle, thrilled to be trotting him under saddle, etc). This past weekend, I CANTERED this horse under saddle. The first time was not my choice (he was spooking http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif) but when he did it I noticed how okay he was with cantering with a rider in the saddle and tried it again. His stride would not win a pretty contest anymore in one direction but he was happy, comfortable and balanced doing it! We are in a very different place than we were this time last year when each day in February I wondered if this was the day he would tell me it was time to give up.
That is my happy news.

Happy News...my house is almost finished!
About another six weeks, although I'm moving into it in four weeks.

And...I have enough $ left over to go to a few events with ClueMan this year! King Oak opens in less than four weeks (wooHOO!) and if I can jump at least once (haven't jumped in a year) before the opening date, I'm in.

See you there, GWV!!

My lovely Jake has started eating and drinking again after a week of dental surgery, tubing electrolyes, blood work, absesses, antibiotics,
5 vet calls, and constant worry. He's not "out of the woods" yet - he may still need his lower jaw xrayed and more teeth pulled. But every day I wake up and he's still trying is a blessing.

Anyways, our trip to Florida is three weeks from today...can hardly wait, in the meantime I am trying to enjoy the gift that I have found, and trying to ride and get my horse ready for The Fork in April since I really want to make a Prelim start in May...Bet my new brother will even come to one of my shows this year!!! What and incredible story! Do you care to share more of it? You should be on Oprah ;)

I cannot even imagine how wonderful that must be...

I have a little bit of happy news. My filly is moving to a training barn April 1st for a couple month, and possibly permanently. I haven't really been able to work her due to the weather, it will be so nice to get back into the groove.
Plus she's SO BORED!

Mar. 14, 2006, 10:13 AM
Definitely an incredible story for us!! I laughed when I read your post Perfect Pony, because my new brother actually emailed Oprah!! We haven't heard a response though....we were hopping for that big book deal (and as my brother said, so we could get rich and move close together and make up for the past 32 years). To make a long story short my parents had him when they were in college and because of numerous circumstances decided to give him up for adoption. The incredible thing is they never told a soul, my Mom never even told her own mother which I find incredibly sad. Anyways, fastforward 39 years and my Mom has been very ill and actually got scared that no one would ever know about Mark (that is my brothers name) so she told the story to my younger brother one day about a month ago. He of course called me on a fri night and told me, needless to say I was absolutely shocked. On Monday morning I decided to try and see what I could find out with the information that I had been given (I new his birth day, where he was born and his birth name). Quickly found out it would be incredibly hard for me to find a sibling with the laws the way they were. I found a website adoption.com that had a reunion section. You could register that you were looking for someone, I did a search by birthdate and came up with one match. I had to register in order to contact the person. So I did and thought I sent him an email. That night my Mom actually almost died, had to be revived by EMTs, very scary...called my younger brother who lives in Ca and told him to fly home. On my way to pick him up, stopped by office to check email and had a response from adoption.com, it was Mark and the email said that the birth name I had matched his....needless to say I was shocked. I couldn't believe it!! We spent all day in the ICU with my Mom and on my way home that night my husband called to tell me that he had just gotten off the phone with my new brother. We went home, talked for 2 hours, it was definitely him, my Mom had given info to the adoption agency that he had that matched our family. Not to mention he looks just like us.... Here is the most amazing part of the story: He had not been on that website in over 5 years and the email I sent never got to him since it was an old address. He just happened to go on the same day that I had posted and found me. It was just so meant to be.... Anyways, we actually found each other a month ago today... have talked everyday, and leave next Thurs to meet. We can hardly wait. He is the most incredible person, and has totally jumped into our lives. Of course he had no idea that we were full siblings which has made it that much more special....

So, that is our incredible story....We are now trying to make up for lost time! I will let everyone know how my weekend goes next week!!!

Mar. 14, 2006, 12:38 PM

Mar. 28, 2006, 09:05 AM
Hi guys!! Well we had our reunion weekend this past weekend. It was the most incredible weekend of my life!!! I can't even begin to describe it, could not have been any better (well maybe longer). I can't even describe what it felt like to see him for the first time!!! We had a great time getting to know each other all weekend, and having to say goodbye was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. Definitely life changing, and has made me really look at my life and what I want out of it.

Anyways, he has already made plans to come and visit me at my house next weekend, so at least we don't have to wait too long to see each other. All I can say is that it is incredible to have a big brother!!!!

Mar. 29, 2006, 07:14 PM
amy- WOW. that is an amazing amazing story. congrats on the reunion :p. That is just too cool.

i haven't read through the thread much, but was wondering how your youngster is doin???

Mar. 30, 2006, 08:47 AM
Hey!!! Thanks, the reunion was incredible for sure. My brother is coming next week and has decided to spend a couple of weeks with me, I am so excited!!!

My youngster (Duncan) is doing great!!! Is in a bratty stage right now, loves to nip and always seems to have to have the last word, but all in all I couldn't have asked for better. He will be a year in May and already crossties and loaded in the trailer a couple of weeks ago like he had done it all his life. Can't wait till he sheds out the woolly coat so I can actually see what he is suppose to look like!

I'm reviving this thread!

Well, my happy news is a bit random, but happy news none the less!

I am moving to Memphis,TN this summer and have been rather disappointed at the lack of eventing in the area. So, I have been looking around on the Pony Club websites and Area 8's website and I am getting more and more excited! The more I look the more I realize we are within a couple of hours (between 6-8) of tons of eventing!!! Clinics, great trainers, and events are "just around the corner" so to speak. We are within 6 hours of some great farms etc. in Ohio,Kentucky, and Texas, as well as some in Indiana and Illinois. I'm actually a bit overwhelmed at this point and I'm more hopeful and excited about the move than ever before.

I am hoping I can find a trainer/farm to take some lessons from and maybe get coaching from them too. As we get closer to the big "M" I want to get in contact with some farms and see about those things. Hidden Hollow Farm and Team CEO Eventing is not that far away and I would love to get coaching from Megan (if possible/she does that) at events.

Well, I just wanted to share and revive the thread!

Apr. 25, 2006, 06:15 PM
Now I remember why I event!

We had our first XC school of the season today. preparatory to our first outing this weekend, and we had a blast. Weather was perfect, mare was keen to jump, the new saddle helped my position to an unbelievable degree, and I didn't fall off!

Barbara, I couldn't make King Oak Spring, but I'm going to try like the dickens to get there this fall and vie for a certain fabulous trophy!

By the way, GWV (now Norfolk), I was very sad to read your post about the adoption greyhound cross in Iowa. I hope you find one closer that you can just run over to and start loving. Keeping fingers crossed for you, and see you this weekend.

Apr. 25, 2006, 07:08 PM
I had a schooling show this weekend with my boy. It was his first time away from home at an actual show. I was expecting him to be kinda crazy and hyper and inattentive- but he wasn't! He could not have been a single bit better!!

we got there the night before and i lunged him to make sure he wasn't gunna do anything silly- and he was so responsive I couldn't believe it. So I got on and rode around the whole farm and he was great- even walking over a couple logs and the ditch out in the XC field.

We had entered in two 2'-2'3" courses, and he was spectacular. I was expecting him to be really looky and silly, but he took it all in stride. We trotted a few when he or I got discombobulated, got a funny spot at one or two, but all in all was wonderful.

Then we had entered in test of choice to do BNA and BNB and we were the only ones entered in that, and it was the last class of the day. So we went through A and he was awesome. He's never really been in a dressage arena before, so I was anticipating some tenseness- but he was just splendid and we got a 65.8%. The judge then took some time to go over the test with me before we went through B, and her advice was wonderful and we got a 66.5% on that one (even with getting the wrong canter lead) including a handful of 8's! The judge then again went over the test with me and some things I should work on.

we also had a test of Ian's previous spookyness. He had the ply-wood on which the jump courses were posted fall on his rump, and he scooted a few strides then stopped as if nothing had happened...

this is the same horse who a year ago I could not touch my helmet while riding because the noise scared him. the horse who I could not touch behind the saddle or he'd bolt. the horse who if i took my feet out of the stirrups would bolt. the horse who if i took him outside would bolt. the horse who i could not touch on the right side at any time or he'd bolt. the horse who would bolt when i tried to get on. the horse who would bolt for no reason whatsoever.

this horse. is amazing. he's a dream come true. I don't know how I got this lucky, especially after the shady beginning. but wow. WOW. He's gunna be something special. I knew it the instant I saw him. I saw that look in his eyes. I'm happy I took the chance with him. he's incredible. :)

Apr. 26, 2006, 03:42 PM
Barbara, please go to Hopkinton and get yourself a Greyhound from Greyhound Friends! You MUST! It will love to help you hand out water and take in pinneys! :)

FA, Mike and I had a perfect 10 minute jump school today followed by our first gallop, around the edge of one of my new hay fields......Mike was perfect, the footing was perfect, the weather is perfect, the view is perfect, the dogs were perfect- Last week I wondered if I really wanted to keep plugging away. The dislocated fingers were throbbing (still are), the mud was sucking shoes off, the horse was wild. Today has reaffirmed that it is all good. On to UNH!

AMY, your story made me SOB. Congratulations. But you didn't tell us about your Mum...is she OK? Does she know about the reunion?

May. 28, 2006, 09:50 AM
Big week here in Nevernever Land, where certain old ladies refuse to grow up.

Yesterday at the Groton House Two-Phase, my little home bred mare went into the ring for the first time in her life (with a working student of my coach's). She was in BN, and was fifth after dressage, and jumped her first course ever clean to end up fourth. I almost busted the buttons of my show jacket. I rode my OTTB, and we had a huge improvement over our previous outing, which was also good news.

Anyway, the homebred showed her breeding (by Reputed Testamony out of a Prelim mare I had), and looked quite cute. In addition, I leased her out for the summer to a kid who is a great rider. She'll remain "for sale", but I won't mind if she comes home to me in the fall!

Also this week we close on our dream farm, only two miles from here. Haven't sold the current place yet (makes it a little complicated!), but actually works out as we'll keep the horses here until we renovate the stable. So I may be flying under the radar most of the summer. Just because you don't hear from me doesn't mean I'm not thinking of you all!

Hope to see lots of you at Groton House I.

A - this post is still going

B- went double double clear in SJ and XC at Fair Hill with new horse moving up to Training today - thought we were nuts to try moving up at Fair Hill but perfect horsie got the job done. Everyone in the barn got xtra carrots to celebrate, but he got more carrots and extra hugs, so he's "The Man" tonight. (Especially as he has the humilation of being turned out in the pony's zebra striped sleazy sleepwear to keep him clean last night, and being run around the field by his big brother all night).

Hey Oreo, do you think that being chased around all night put himin the right mindset to go Training?

Gillain and I had a good day at the CDCTA Breeding Day, in spite of the loose stallion and the heat.

Chief (Premier d Kegan, Illian de Taute (SF) x Penmerryl's Rose (RID xTB)) was second Event Horse Yearling, and second (though out of two) in the Hunter Yearling colts and geldings.

Motocross (Aberjack x Sportscar) was first in the Event Horse 2 year olds, and reserve champion Event Horse.

The judges were Packy McGoughan and Rodney Jenkins. Rodney (who knew nothing about Spoortscar herself) asked about Moto's breeding. When Gillian said she was by Aberjack "out of a mutt" he said "one hell of a mutt!"

But the bad part was that I had to go to the emergency room for dehydration.

And the show photographer was the one who bought her off the meat truck in the first place.

Janet, great news about the younsters! Is Chief your new one? Wasn't sure of the name...

Sorry about the dehydration, though. I think you need to try my Cool Medics vest on this weekend (although it's not supposed to be that hot). I thought about you on Saturday while I was wearing it because I know you struggle in the heat even more than I do.

Yes, his barn name is Chief and his registered name is Premier de Kegan.

Saturday was actually OK. It was Sunday that got me.

Janet, congrats on the good showing. Too bad about the dehydration. It can sneak up on you.

Any pics of the Sportscar/Aberjack kids now that they are two? Would love to see them.

I am digging up this thread from the dead to report on my awesome dressage lesson yesterday with Kim Gentry. Despite a warning from a hunter trainer and barn builder at the local hunter show we went to watch that she was not "personable" at all I had a perfect lesson. And Kim was way more "personable" than that guy! We worked a lot on the things I had been working on with my old trainer, but Kim is a bit of a better communicator and she worded things differently so we really made some break throughs. It clicked a little more hearing it from another person whom I don't know. We worked on getting just a bit more polished and more round and up instead of a more medicore/flat outline...which is what the judges have said. We also worked on transations because he tends to get strung out and rushy, causing the rest of our test to be kind of heavy. Kim used to event a lot when she was young in Australia (and Singapore? Not sure...she went to the PC Eventing Nationals in Singapore, it says on her website) so she has a bit more of a perspective in the eventing world then a average dressage coach/rider. She thinks Tyler and I can definiately break the 30s...IF we get the transitions and get some more "polish" which I totally agree with. She complimented us that we are a good team and said Tyler was a great dressage horse...one of her first comments was that he really uses his back end underneath himself. At the end, Tyler's canter was the best I've EVER ridden and I could not believe how much progression we made in one lesson. I cannot wait until next week so I can ride my test for her; she is also going to get on Tyler for me.

I'm leaving Labor Day weekend to drop Tyler off at my old trainer's and have some lessons. Then I will be going up the next weekend (or is it the weekend after that..whatever..I'm going up every weekend from Labor Day through AECs! lol) to compete at Poplar, then coming back every weekend until the AECs.

I am disappointed that I can only ride with Kim twice though, but I really need a jumping lesson before Poplar so I'm still going back. Plus, I would have not gotten where I was without my old trainer. I will probably continue to have lessons with Kim on Doc back in Memphis, but it obviously won't be the same. Oh well. I'm glad I'm getting two lessons with her, lol. :)

I just had to share. Plus revive this thread...again.
