Well let's see...besides Vegas getting better...
My WONDERFUL SO bought a 2005 GMC 2500HD Duramax Diesel so I will finally be able to trailer my horse wherever and whenever I please! I should be mobile in the next couple weeks!
Feb. 28, 2005, 02:33 PM
Perfect Pony--I have the same truck--Absolutely love it. It hauls great! Congrats on Vegas. My mare Charm is on the mend too. May only be one more month and she can come back into work so I might still make some late spring events. I have another vet appointment tomorrow so I'm hoping for good news http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Im in the same area as you...the lovely (now snow blanketed) area II. Im drooling over the thoughts of even riding this week!!
Anyway onto my happy news...
I finally built up enough courage to send in my B application for pony club. Better now then never!! I was a bit worried about my horse being ready in time for the rating (early Septemeber) after her 6 month 'epm vacation' this fall but she is looking better than ever. My mom, vet, and instructor think that she will be ready, and maybe even get a few events in this spring!! If I can get her fit enough (weather permitting http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/dead.gif) Im aiming for a first jumping session around the end of March. I cant wait!!
Shots, coggins, and wormer is all next week. So besides the 6"++ (and estimated 10" tonight) it feels like spring! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Snow here too. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif Home from work today...chance to clean the house!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

For all of us miserable and stuck in snowy New England: despite all outward appearances, spring IS coming. I heard a red-winged blackbird when hacking to the indoor and my horses are starting to shed. And UNH entries are coming up! Yeah, there's way too much snow, and I really hate the wind, but the end is in sight!
PS: Risk-averse-rider, you have a PT

Spring is coming, hooray!
And..on March 16th, the project I've been working on for 4.5 years is actually opening to the public (I'm an electrical engineer) - the new Terminal A and Satellite at Logan International Airport!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
And then CluesGirl is taking off for New Zealand to parts unknown with her crazy Kiwi bro-in-law (and sis!) for a couple of weeks!! Yahoo!
And the most important piece of Happy News...we are under agreement (with contingencies, but nevertheless...) with our neighbors to buy their house. On almost 2 acres, with a 2-stall barn. Yes!

Mar. 5, 2005, 05:15 AM
We're hosting a hunter show at my barn today. By 3:00 yesterday the yard was FULL of trailers. the fun part? I'm getting to help out. There are exhibitors renting stalls in "my" 9 stall barn on the property and I couldn't believe how much fun I had yesterday stripping stalls and rebedding them so that they looked perfect. My trainer kept telling me that they don't have to look great, just so long as they have a roof over their heads. But I know that when I go to a show I expect the stall I rent to be clean and have fresh shavings and not look like they just took the resident horse out and didn't bother with it.
I'm thinking more and more that my level of perfectionism is well suited to this business http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif And the strangest thing of all: I kept asking the girls in my barn "Can I get you anything?" or "If you have any questions, let me know" and finally when they went to their hotels for the night "My name is Stephanie, I'll be here all day tomorrow if you need anything. Just find me." http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif It's like my servant attitude just woke up from a 19 year nap and went nuts last night. And I ENJOYED it!
The girls were all really nice and seemed very impressed and pleased that someone was taking care of them and being nice. Hey, maybe they'll make a comment about me to my boss or their trainer (who is good friends with my trainer). That's what sucks about being in the barn at the top of the hill...Trainer never sees the hard work I do. And I'm needing good references!
FINALLY: A farm has contacted me about hiring me to work for them!!! I can't work until January b/c of school, and hey know that, but they were so impressed with my resume that they called anyway!!! woo hoo! Maybe this WILL all work out!

For those of you under water, snow or ice; today I got to see Winsome Adante go cross country at PTF and it was just as much of a thrill as it always is. He and Kim remind me of everything I love about eventing, and everything that is so wonderful about a really good horse. And there were lots of them out today. I wish you could have all been there with me. I forgot about losing the big 3days for a little while and just relished the sight of horses keen for their jobs. What joy! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif

My happy news today: Con completed his first Advanced course--and we think he may have made history doing so because he MAY be the first, "official" pony to go Advanced (he has his permanent pony card). Let's hear it for PONY POWER: from BN to ADV in 2.5 years, woohooo!
Mar. 7, 2005, 09:38 AM
pwynn - That is so cool!
Where can we read more details?

pwynn, got to see him go. When I remarked to others watching that he was a pony, REALLY a pony!!!, they looked at me like I had two heads. He doesn't look like a little guy jumping around out there! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It was a balmy 61* today http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif, the sun was out, the sky was blue, and a cool breeze was running through our hair. I took my EPM mare, Allie out for the second time since being back into full work. She was feeling sooo good, that I decided to hop over a little log (about 18"--but hey, the first 'jump' in over 6 months on her!) and do a little trotting in the field. She was feeling extra spunky, so I let her do a little hand gallop. It felt wonderful!! The first time I have done anything more than a trot outside the ring since her diagnosis. I couldnt stop grinning!! At the end, I of course I feaked her out with all my praising and patting. We hoped back over the little log, and walked back to the barn. What a wonderful day! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Mar. 7, 2005, 05:54 PM
It was GORGEOUS today! Sunny and warm (I think the high was 72 but not sure what it got to). Finished the clip job on the horse I started last night. AND I leave for the Blyth Tait clinic tomorrow! Yeah!!

Well it's freezing here in IL AGAIN, but it's no real suprise.
Yesterday was an amazing day. To start, it was 60 degrees! WOOHOO... boy was I excited. It was the first day this year I rode in only one layer and I was sweating.
I took my mare over to a local indoor to have a jump lesson with Kenny Dierks. My mare was AMAZING! She was the greeniest horse in the group and she was taking everything in stride. There was a corner, a faux coffin (tarp as the ditch), a skinny w/ a blanket over it, a barrel jump, a jump w/ cones and then a few plain ol' jumps. My mare was VERY forward and having fun trying to buck me off but we had no stops, run-outs or hesitations. I'm impressed! Yes she did come from the jumper world, but how many jumpers actually put a blanket over a skinny?! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif By the end of the lesson we were jumping 3'3"-3'6", the biggest I've jumped her... I'm very happy.
I have a clinic with Kenny on March 19-20 so I'm hoping we'll have the same amazing rides. I just need to get rid of my mare's mystery front hooves lameness... if it's not one thing, it's another! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
I WANT SPRING!! I WANT TO SCHOOL XC!!
Mar. 9, 2005, 03:41 PM
Patrick had Yet Another EKG today and... although his heart is still skipping beats, his vet said to put him back to work and see what happens.
So we have very reserved possibly happy news from AZ, where it's sunny and 80 degrees!

After putting it off and putting it off, today I finally got brave enough to do Patrick's first five minutes of trot. So far, so good! He was breathing hard, but not exhausted. And he even offered a few strides of canter here and there. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I haven't ridden him yet; today was in the round pen.

I went to a comp and survived!! Unfortunately had too many stops in the XC, but not all at the same fence so could keep going and was a real confidence booster as it was our first time out on course after a bad bad fall in November. Now every muscle in my body aches and I can't stop grinning!

WOOOHOOO rode outside this weekend on Seeker, my three year old. His steering still goes out every once in a while but he was very good in the "big" ring for the first time. w-t-c and hopped over a couple of flower boxes. Took him for a walk by himself and he was very brave--seems like he will hack out by himself easily. We'll work up to it slowly but we went down the road far enough for the farm to be out of sight and he was more than willing to keep going! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif That will make my life easier as there are not a lot of early morning riders at my barn http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Can't wait for spring to really get here! I love watching the young ones grow up!
Mar. 14, 2005, 01:32 PM
Took the horse I am leasing out to school cross-country (only the 2nd time he's ever seen anything!) and he was AMAZING. We were galloping up and down hills, up and down banks, and cannon-balling into water in no time. The best part? Someone came up and asked if he was a "youngin" and I got to say "nope, 16yr old dressage horse here...Prix St. Georges last year..beginner novice this year!" He was very proud of himself--and I couldn't stop smiling!
Mar. 14, 2005, 03:23 PM
I have found a lovely horse to half-lease, starting in May. This is his photo: http://www.brownphotos.com/riding/HotTopic.jpg
His name is Topper, he's an 8 year old OTTB who is sound for lower-level eventing (occasional soundness issue w/ a hock). I've had two rides on him, and after taking lessons since last July and only being able to ride school horses inside of a lesson environment, I'll get to do real riding on my own -- a little trail riding, practice my lesson exercises, and just have fun with a nice willing horse. And his human is a very nice woman who thinks I'm competent and responsible enough to ride her baby. I couldn't be happier about him.
Happy spring riding, everyone.

I haven't been on the happy news thread in a while, so here goes...
I am getting a NEW TRUCK on thursday!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Well, it's a 2000 model F150, but I've never had a truck,, so it's new to me! I will be able to tote my horses around all by myself!
Thursday is ST. PATRICKS day! I LOVE that holiday! No reason really except I have this serious fetish for Ireland and I love the whole 4 leaf clover thing. It makes me smile!
I put Jelly in training and he is improving by leaps and bounds every day! At this rate maybe we WILL be going Training sometime in the reasonably near future!
I might have a great job offer!!! An amature ULR has bought a huge farm and is building it from the ground up. She wants ME to come and manage the farm for her and help establish a lesson program! She is going to send me to clinics and such until I am very comfortable teaching BEGINNER level lessons to young eventers and she is going to finance my USEA certification!!!!!!! That is, if I get the job officially. She is flying me up to see her place in April.
Yes, there is more! My life is going really well right now http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif It is almost summer and I am counting the weeks until I leave for my summer in KY. I cant' wait!!! It's going to be awsome!!!
OOOOH! And I just bought a new Stubben that I LOVE! It's purdy! hehe http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Clover, ( I JUST came up with that name!) was born on the 17th! Happy, healthy, palomino, with a VERY cool blaze, and assorted socks and stockings. She is a fairly dark golden yellow, out of a draft cross mare, by my stallion. She'll be tall, like her mom, but much more refined! I think I'll eventually get her sport horse and warmblood approved!
Just waiting for two more!
My last job ended, (I'm doing the temp. thing.) and I have another one lined up to start Monday.
I have a horse in for breaking.
Robins arrived last week!

Well, hopefully I won't jinx myself, but do I have a nice OTTB!!! He is coming 5, just had fun last year and boy is he settling into his education this year. Just had a great jump lesson. We did some gymnastics and he did not bat an eye. Finds the jumps with the greatest of ease, rythym and balance. He is definitely my "old lady" horse, come a bit early of coursehttp://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Ahhh, the joy of owning a sound, unspoiled, happy horse. Now can I successfully build on that??!!! I have to drive to RI for work tonight and I know I will be daydreaming about a certain fun OTTB all the way down the Mass Pikehttp://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Decanting a bit of good news before going out to ride on the first day of spring. (Take heart, Sannois, it IS coming, just slowly)
The wonderful 4 mile long beach in my town closes to horses at the end of March for the summer, but in the last few days, I've managed to get all of mine out there. I rode the 3 1/2 year old, and she was terrific: very brave and forward while being quite relaxed. I ponied the rising 3 yo off my very steady mare for his first trip to the ocean. He looked at everything around him: the pedestrians, kite-flyers, waves, other horses, sighed and just walked along, even into the water. I think he's going to be a really cool dude.
And then I screwed up my courage and took my OTTB mare to the beach with a barn mate. We walked and trotted a bit, and then decided to canter. Of course that soon mutated into a hand gallop, and I was thrilled to learn that she rates, and very easily! Hooray! We went almost to the end of the beach, then turned to walk back home, and SHE WALKED BACK ON THE BUCKLE!
And that's my very good news.
Happy spring to all!
Mar. 20, 2005, 12:35 PM
My lorry passed its MOT so I can continue to haul the neddies around the country!
Dancing Lawn, I have a friend with a dun mare called Clover, loffly name!
Mar. 20, 2005, 02:16 PM
All this good news aside, I must admit I'm getting just a wee bit tired of all this snow. It's been snowing all day. It snowed all last night. I have drifts on my way to the barn that are up past my knees. I'm still having to carry water out to the barn, THROUGH those stupid drifts. When will it end?
I had to put raisins and dried cranberries out for the robins, poor things. Of course, my resident red squirrel found them first! But, never fear, there's an (almost) endless supply of them, leftover from the Christmas baking I never got around to!
Mar. 20, 2005, 04:02 PM
Went to the park with my boy again today. It was not as warm as I had hoped it would be (40), and still overcast, but we still managed to have a good time. He was a little more wound up today than the last time we were there. I think it may have been because my husband came along on his bike (there is a paved bike trail that parallels the horse trail). This horse CANNOT go trail riding with another horse; he acts like an idiot. In front, in back, doesn't matter. Evidently this behavior extends to bicycle companions as well, although to a lesser extent. I finally had to let him go gallop, or it was going to be a big fight the whole way (and made sure to tell hubby NOT to try and keep pace with us! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) After he got a little "blowout", he was much better. Our last gallop of the day was very nice, probably about 525-550 mpm, and very comfortable. Usually I'm trying to slow him down, and today I suddenly realized, "Why? Where, exactly, is he going to go? Nowhere!" So I just sat there, and settled in, and it was a blast! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Mar. 20, 2005, 05:13 PM
I rode outside this weekend (in the snow) but it felt so good to gallop and breath in fresh air instead of indoor dust!! I think tomorrow night I am going to plow my ring and start riding outside again. My guy is done with riding inside and I think I am too. Bring on SPRING!!!

Happy news today!!! Jelly is doing SO WELL in his training!!! I longed him today (only his third time on the line that I know of) and he did so well! The first time I ever longed him he freaked out and galloped around for half an hour dragging the longe line before I could catch him! We had a little gymnastic set up as a bounce and he trotted through it (like I wanted him to) perfectly SEVERAL times!
I'm so proud of him b/c there's another OTTB at the barn with the SAME issues Jelly's been having and he is Jelly's age. he's been in training for about a month more than Jelly (Jelly's only been "in training" for 2 weeks now) and Jelly is doing 100X better than him already! he's such a fast learner!!!!

Mar. 22, 2005, 06:07 AM
Our outdoor ring looks like we will be able to ride in it by the end of the week! Then I can set up jumps and start jumping again! I'm so excitied!
Mar. 22, 2005, 07:04 AM
Well...if the sun stays out and it continues to warm up a bit, I think I may take my mare over some "real" jumps today. The first ones we will have been over in close to 6 months. (we jump over little logs and stuff, but these are real poles and standards!)

My Greenie started to figure out the concept of moving off his hind end and bending, with the help of my dressage trainer.
I have the best trainer in the world too...he explains everything incredibly well, is REALLY nice, and has made my riding improve a TON in the last 3 lessons I've had with him.
Mar. 22, 2005, 01:02 PM
My Greenbean and I did our first hunter show of the year this past Saturday. After being a bit of a loon in our first division, he settled down for our second division and we took all 3 blues! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

We have a new foal at the farm!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
My employer bred her lovely Trak. mare to the stallion, Fuerst Gotthard and got "Fuerst of All", a super cute (aren't they all) chestnut filly who will be gray eventually. You can see her picture here 2005 COTH Foals (http://home.comcast.net/~fruitsnob/cothfoals.htm)
This is the first time I have been involved from conception to birth, very exciting and nerve racking! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Just happy to be taking care of a healthy foal, even if she isn't mine http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.
Mar. 23, 2005, 12:03 PM
we had a lesson today and it was PERFECT!!! Jelly was so polite. INstead of doing of usual gymnastic with a little xrail and step rails on each side, my trainer set up a flower box as a step rail in front of an actual fence (a white gate) and then had a rail on the landing side. Jelly trotted it really well and my position was even really good! So she kept raising the gate until we had jumped from a 2' gate to a 3'3" gate!!!!! And he did it perfectly!!!!!!!
Mar. 24, 2005, 05:12 AM
Well, thanks to all the rescued mares constantly destroying stall doors, walls, fences, etc. my stallion was a little busy last year!.
so, Welcome to the world, Calypso! Born early Tuesday morning, he's a pinto palomino colt! He's a very handsome young man!
Now, I'm just waiting for one more.
Mar. 24, 2005, 09:31 AM
My good news?
I've been working closely with the girl who's leased my mare for the season since february.
As of last weekend:
- They won their first championship (3'0 jumper)
- Successfully moved up to 3'6" jumper (winning one of the two 3'6" classes)
- Beat their competition in jumpoffs by 5-7 seconds http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif off of some wonderful turns
They might even go in their first mini-prix (3'6"-3'9") in a couple weeks!! I'm SO proud of both of them!!! They both look so good! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

We went clear on our XC on Sunday. This was a pretty great thing for me as in November, on the same course, we had a nasty fall where Arnie got his leg through the fence in question and rolled onto me, pinning my leg under his body. We even had the same fence in our course on Sunday, so it was brilliant to be able to face down the fear!
Mar. 29, 2005, 02:02 PM
My good news is that the vet has cleared Music to start work again. Belle is still out for a while. ANd Brain is on the short term disabled list with an abscess. But he should be back in time for the Ernest Dillon clinic.

my good news is that I participated in a weekend event camp last weekend and negotiated a x-country course in a snaffle and had a good deal of control.
He was still getting me on this drop fence by landing..going one stride and dropping the shoulder and running left rearing and such but he didn't get away with it. Instructor told me to push my left leg up on his shoulder and give him a good boot and just look right and channel him that way.
He was very confident and steady to his fences which is great considering we just got back into eventing last season at the very end of the season. The instructor helped me a lot with my galloping position and I felt much steadier with shorter stirrups. I can't wait to get back out on the x-country course if it would ever stop raining!

In spite if the rain, I have had a good day.
Showed Brain to some potential buyers (trailerd to the indoor at Blue Top) AMd he was a good boy. Not sure exactly what they aare looking for, and they are loking at TEN horses today. But he was good.
The Ernest Dillon clinic is now almost full, and I think I am going to be able to give everyine their preferred times.
The rain cleared up for a couple of hours this afternoon, and my husband, Tim, went on a trail ride with me. He rode Music and I rode Spy. Spy really enjoyed it.
Apr. 3, 2005, 06:47 AM
Janet, got my fingers crossed for you!
My good news is that with all the rain and (so far) minor flooding, none of my horses have any excuse at any water jumps this season! Also, only a few snow banks remain, which means those very same horses will all look like armadillos after rolling in the mud later this week. But shedding out has seriously begun and the peepers are out, so spring is here, finally.

happy news. Okay, lets see. On friday, I was outside pruning trees, in my shirtsleeves, it was gorgeous out. All the snow was gone.
On Sat. we were waiting out the worst snow storm we've had in years, lasted nearly 48 hours, and dumped a TON of snow on the ground. I had 2' of snow on the ground, and a 4' drift to wade through to get to the barn.
My two foals are doing great! And both are stunning golden palominos, one solid with chrome, the other pinto.
Today, for the first time since last MAY, I rode my now 4 yr. old. For a young guy who was just learning the walk/trot/steer thing, he was supurb! He walked, he trotted, he stopped when asked, he wasn't spooked by any of the stupid things that were going on! What a gem! I'm very pleased, and can't wait to do it again, tomorrow!
Apr. 6, 2005, 02:55 PM
I schooled the dippy red horse at 3'3 - 3'6 on Sunday - for the first time since a nasty fall while jumping last August. And he was great!
Apr. 6, 2005, 03:10 PM
I rode my 24 y.o. today and for the first time in about 5 months she is almost sound (95%)!!!! yay for her!
Just WT for now, but feeling good and sassy! Yay for rest and Legend!!!

Mr. Blondie and I had a GREAT dressage lesson yesterday - after about a month without lessons of any kind, for various reasons.
Apr. 8, 2005, 08:21 AM
Patrick went back to 'work' on Wednesday-- first time since October. He's been doing walk-trot in the roundpen since early March, with a brief time-out for some swelling in one leg, and has worked up to trotting for 15 minutes per session.
At that point I deemed it 'worth it' to actually saddle up. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif The jury is still out on whether he will recover completely and go back to competing, but we're cautiously optimistic. If not, my husband will inherit one *amazing* trail horse!
Apr. 8, 2005, 08:43 AM
That IS great news!!!
I follow Patrick's progress because I think he is so darn handsome!
Spring has sprung here in MA, two of my daffodils bloomed yesterday. About f*&^%$& time!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It's been another fabulous, gorgeous, perfect sunny day! I rode three horses, worked with another two, and even groomed a couple more!
PLUS, we now have a tack shop in town! Can you believe it! A tack shop, not 5 minutes away from me! They don't have much stock yet, and the owner seems quite young, but hey, if she carries the stuff I need on a regular basis, then, Hallejuiah, oh Happy Day!
I wish her all the best luck in the world! (I entered the draw for a complete set of tack ! Saddle, bridle, girth, leathers, irons, and saddle pad! Wish me luck!
Apr. 9, 2005, 04:13 PM
Our happy news from IL comes from a great jumping lesson/clinic my girl did with her half-lessee (ears). Anndee is feeling tons better now that her hocks were done and the huge scrape/bruise on her hind cannon is going away (rolling into the fence...don't ask!) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
It was like she was telling us "jeez why don't you let me jump anymore?? I love it soooo much!"
To top it off it was a gorgeous spring day and warm enough for a BATH!!! The winter gloom is gone and spring is here!!!
Apr. 9, 2005, 04:56 PM
As many of you know, I returned to the saddle in January after a 7 year hiatus. Well, today I showed up at the farm just as a group was going to school x-country. I was told to grab a horse and join them. Thus, my first jump school in 7 years occurred today, and it went REALLY well (it helps that I'm riding a WONDERFUL horse--though he will call me on something if I'm not riding properly). Most of the fences were on the novice XC course, and I only had one yee-haw/oh chit fence http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif. I had a ball! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Apr. 10, 2005, 09:12 AM
That's Great, glfprncs
Keep going!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Apr. 11, 2005, 05:01 AM
Well, I had a GREAT weekend! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Last week was a really stressful week, but it sure ended well. I flew to NC for a job interview at a new eventing facility. It is on 250 acres of PLUSH green grass. Everywhere I looked everything was green! And it is on the side of a small mtn so when you look across the pasture you see a tree line at the end of the pastures then the mountains behind them. SO PRETTY!
Anyway, on Saturday we drove down to Southern Pines so she (** rider) could have lessons on all 3 of her cometition horses. We also brought her Novice/Training packer that her husband is taking to his first show next weekend. So she rode her 3 then asked if I would ride the packer in a lesson for her. I was like..."hm...that's a tough one...i guess.. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif." So I had a PHENOMENAL lesson with David O'Brien. My confidence level went from zero to 100 in half an hour!!! It was fantastic. And the funny thing is, he just raised my stirrups 2 holes from where I usually use them, and all of a sudden I quit getting left behind at every fence, and my position was right. It was insane! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
So to make a long story even longer, I had a great time at this farm this weekend, and as I was boarding my plane to come home yesterday she offered me the job!!!!!!!!! So when I graduate in December it's off to NC so my horse can live on green pastures and we can ride with the best! YAY!!!
Apr. 13, 2005, 10:19 AM
MMMMM. I can picture those idyllic green meadows! I can't wait for things to start turning green up here!
Yesterday morning, my lovely broodmare Splash had a VERY TALL buckskin filly! No markings, but very nice. (Splash has three stockings and a sock, and a splash of white on her neck, as well as a tiny star!)
Apr. 13, 2005, 11:28 AM
I am going to school x-country today at Unicorn Farm in Chesapeake City, Md. It is a beautiful day and we have a group of 8 going.
It could be happy news when I am done but right now i am just happy to be going and getting off work early!
Apr. 13, 2005, 11:34 AM
The vet says i can start Belle back in work. So I now have THREE "sound" horses instead of just one.
Apr. 14, 2005, 02:11 PM
Can we make it 94 pages of Happy News...Please!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Apr. 14, 2005, 02:23 PM
Just for you Barb http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
We went clear in our stadium on the weekend for the first time in a year (what's with that?). Unfortunately my reins broke on XC so I had to retire, but hey, I'm not hurt so that's got to be happiest news, right?
Apr. 14, 2005, 04:50 PM
I jumped my horse stadium today...last jump school before our first show of the year, a combined test this weekend. He was very good, and I didn't screw up, which is wonderful because I had a disastrous school on Saturday (over the same fences)...was missing every distance, trying to be too careful, just not focused. Today was much better, so I'm feeling a little more confident and looking forward to the show. We're doing novice and training. I'll let y'all know how it goes!
Apr. 14, 2005, 06:07 PM
I had a wonderful lesson today, ending with Lexi and I popping over a few small cross country jumps. It was the first time I jumped her cross country (and her first time in like 5 years) and she went really well. I was really pleased. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I also got a chance to ride a very cute very out-of-shape draft pony named Duke. Such a funny little guy.. I took him over a little crossrail, he EXPLODED over it. Caught me offguard http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Anyway, he was fun.
Also looking forward to my show this Sunday very very much!
Oh yes, let's make it 94, shall we?
Apr. 15, 2005, 03:27 AM
Aiming for page 94!
Had four horses arrive unexpectedly last night.
owners are having some financial troubles, they've been doing their best to find places for them, get them sold, but time ran out.
So, they're here, and I will try to sell them for them. What makes this good news?
I can ride them all! I only have three very green horses to ride for myself, and it doesn't take that much time, so now, I'll start to get FIT! and of course, the weather is PERFECT for riding!
Apr. 15, 2005, 05:05 AM
I had a great x-country school! My horse was super confident and we even made it into the water.
My student provided the comic relief by falling in the water (aka..huge stinkin mudpit) but she was such a good sport about it. We all had a great time.
Apr. 15, 2005, 05:44 AM
Showing my OTTB to a Hunter/jumper trainer (I hate selling horses) we built her up to her first jumping course ever, and my first course in over a year! We both handled it very well, although I do admit to some muscle pain in the gimpy leg today. And my dressage guru said I was doing a great job with her when he saw her this week. So my happy news is that spring is here and I have three horses (soon to be four) going well.
Doing the "please somebody buy one soon" dance!
Apr. 15, 2005, 06:00 AM
Rats! That didn't make page 94!
Apr. 15, 2005, 11:46 AM
We can do it!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Have a Great, Happy and Sage weekend, Everyone out there in Eventing Land!!
Apr. 15, 2005, 11:11 PM
Tonight I saw an Actual Indentation on Patrick's butt, indicating that there MIGHT be a muscle under there somewhere! And he worked hard enough to break a sweat both tonight and Wednesday night. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif We're up to 35 minutes and have added short canters. So far so good, though we're not out of the woods yet...
Apr. 15, 2005, 11:23 PM
Whenever Patrick is ready, Mr. Blondie says he would be very, very happy to hold an inservice on Bucking at the Canter for him, just in case he has forgotten.

LOL... I don't know that this horse has ever bucked in his LIFE. It would be such a waste of energy, you know?

I'm going to see Cavalia!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

OK, despite the fact that the Combined Test (or "Combined Mess", as I have dubbed it) was a reasonable approximation of what would have occurred had Larry, Moe and Curly put on a horse show...we were 6th in our Novice division. I'm pretty happy with that as the first show of the year. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Apr. 17, 2005, 06:57 PM
Prozac Pony and FLM Win the Jr BN High Point!!!
In case you missed this on ESPN, Prozac Pony and his Favorite Little Munchkin (FLM) sewed up the Junior Beginner Novice High Point Championship today with a 3rd place finish.
I'm sooooo proud of both of them!
They were 9th (out of 10) after dressage. A personal best score for them of 45.5, but still 3.5 points out of the ribbons. In order for them to win the high point, EITHER they had to place in the top 6, OR one particular girl had to place 2nd or lower. That girl was tied for 2nd after dressage.
After a double clear in stadium, PP & FLM had moved up to 5th, but "That Girl" - also double clear - was still tied for 2nd. After another double clear on x-c, PP & FLM had moved up to 3rd, clinching the championship. ("That Girl" had slipped to 4th due to some time faults on x-c.)
Apr. 17, 2005, 07:24 PM
Awwwww, how cute! I accompanied a friend to the HT at RAR's barn today, and stopped to admire Mr. Blondie in his stall.
I was in charge of video, so no pics, except that when we returned home I took some action shots (http://www.pbase.com/wendysmoak/grace) of aforementioned friend's month-old filly.
Apr. 17, 2005, 07:43 PM
What a cutie-pie that filly is!
Were you there watching Susan? I saw Frederic coaching her in stadium. I thought she looked great.
Mr. Blondie and I did just two dressage tests in the early morning, so we were done by just after 9 am. I was soooo happy to be done before it got too hot. Plus then I had the rest of the day to fluff & dust Prozac Pony, and chew my nails ;-)

Tomorrow is Patrick's "bought date"! (We don't know when he was born.) This time a year ago we were in California camping overnight in the trailer. We loaded him up the morning of the 18th and drove home. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ok I don't post very often but super happy now so thought I'd share http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif We went to our first show of the year yesterday (training level - combined) and were 3rd. VERY happy. Then, to top it off, got to go school XC (w/ absolutely gorgeous weather!) It was SOOOO much fun!!!! There were 4 from our barn and everybody had a good day, so mood was positive all around. Great start to the season. Woohoo!
Apr. 18, 2005, 06:59 PM
I only have 24 days (count 'em...two-four) until I send this year's group of 8th graders up to the high school and I get 9 whole weeks to do nothing but piddle around the house and ride horses every single day if I want! Ahh...there are some perks to being a teacher and only working a 190 day year.

I took Mr. Brain (Derby Day Dancer) to Foxcroft (Dominion Valley PC HT) on Sunday, at Beginner Novice. I had tried to do the same thing last fall. but he developed a hoof abscess between Dressage and cross country, and we had to scratch.
This time he stayed sound. Dressage has definitley improved, though the canter is still "a bit ragged". We were 7th (out of about 14)after dressage.
Cross counbtry went really well. Clear and well within time. The only problem I had was getting him rebalanced on the (quite steep) downhill sections. We were definitely "rolling" coming down to the tire jump, put he figured it out. I made sure we came back to the trot well before the short approach (after a long downhill) to the second ditch, and it rode well.
Stadium was quite twisty- 1-2 2-3, 4-5, 5-6, 5-7, 7-8, aned 9-10 were all bending lines. We "got under" 8 (not helped by my gettting ahead, even though I was actively trying not to) and hit the ground line, but cleared the fence. The rest went well, and we were clear.
I had to leave right after I rode stadium (to catch a plane for a business meeting in Spain, which is why I am posting at weird hours)so i don't know where we finished (results are not yet on line) but another competitor has told me we moved up to second after the cross country results were posted.
He goes to the Lucinda Greeen clinic next week, and then moves up to Novice at DRPC HT. He is definitely ready.

Buenos dias, Janet, and congrats!

The results are up now, and we DID finish second.

I'll be picking up my lovely new truck early next week, and I'll be picking up the new two horse trailer on May the 9th! I can't wait!!!
I'll have wheels again! I won't be having to borrow mummy's car anymore! The freedom! My poor horses won't know whats' hit them! They'll be shipping here, there, and everywhere!
I'm packing my bags and taking my show on the road!!! Look out Palgrave! Look out Checkmate, Caledon, and all points south!
This calls for champagne, I think.
Apr. 21, 2005, 05:18 PM
My horse and I went to our first show of the year....a combined test. We were in the Prelim division. Our dressage has some brillant moments and some bolting moments. We ended up with a 43 and first place after dressage. Stadium was VERY tight and had a longish 3 stride to a very short one stride....but my horse went double clean. He was the only one is his division to go clean! So we collected our blue ribbon and our mug and went home.
Now onto UNH!
Apr. 21, 2005, 06:07 PM
Lexi and I had our first show of the year also- it was also a combined test. It was amazing.. very nice dressage with a score of 35 http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif, which put us in first place. We went clear stadium, on a fairly easy course, and won the division http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I also did an extra dressage test, which was also very nice, which we got a 68 on. We won that test also!! I was very very happy, and very pleased with Lexi. We also went XC schooling, both away and at home, recently, which ahs been wonderful.

Finally I feel like things are starting to pick up... (I had a horrible winter!!)
I have 3 entries in: MCTA, Plantation, and Fair Hill. My fourth event opens on tuesday.
MCTA is in 2 weeks and I cant wait. It is an absolutly amazing place, and so much fun. I think it will be a good confidence booster for the first event of the season. Allie's jumping had improved drastically. I took her schooling XC on monday IN A SNAFFLE. You have no idea how amazing that is!! (she was still a bit strong, but soooooo much better than the last time I took her XC) She jumped into the water several times without even looking and we jumped a small-ish ditch without a problem.
I am feeling confident about showing her (at least stadium) in the snaffle.
Im going XC schooling at FH on Tuesday. It will be our first "real" school over a recognized course (give us a chance to try some prelim stuff and get out and gallop some fences and work on ditches/water) So far the plan is to take her in a snaffle. I may bring the other bit along just in case, but we'll see...
Her dressage is getting there. She has some beautiful moments and then some suckie ones. I think spring feaver is really getting to her this past week. (she'd rather be out galloping, as would I!!!) But none the less, I think everything will iron out before the shows start and I think she should deliver a half-way decent test.
I have my second B prep clinic this weekend. Hopefully we will get as good reviews as the last... http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif

Well I finally have some REALLY happy news! Had my horses hocks injected last Wed. And today I lunged him in side reins in the indoor for the first time since he had been done! OMG I got tears in my eyes! Totally soound! Not a strange bobble either way to be found, and sooo pleasant and forward! And he offered a canter quiet and round, and no Cross firing!!! Something he always did on the lunge before! I hope it feels as good as it looks! So very excited! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Patrick (who got sick last October and is slowly recovering) hopped over a crossrail today!
The jumps were still set up from a Pony Club rating at the barn, and I couldn't resist trotting the crossrail a couple of times.
They were irrigating the turnouts and the gates were open. If I let him walk on a loose rein, he would head straight for the water-- the noise of it whooshing through the pipe and splashing over the rocks didn't bother him in the least, he wanted to play in it!
May. 2, 2005, 09:45 AM
Crossrails, water--- next step, Rolex!
(OK, so maybe Flagstaff?)
May. 2, 2005, 09:53 AM
I have wanted a horse of my own for my whole life. And today, my first half-lease of a very sweet and fun to ride thoroughbred low level eventer STARTS. Hooray! This is Topper: http://www.brownphotos.com/riding/
May. 2, 2005, 03:47 PM
The good news is that the swallows came back to my barn this morning, I'm about to leave on a vacation for two whole weeks http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif, and my 10 month old gelding has come home, settled in well and is madly in love with my 4 yo homebred mare. He loffs his Auntie!
The bad news is that I still have too many horses, and today the OTTB melted down for 35 minutes because the kids next door were jumping on their trampoline while I was trying to ride. What's with that? You would think that every horse would be OK with that, wouldn't you? (Just kidding)
These same kids used to spook my 4 year old's dam by dressing up in sequins, tulle, feathers, crowns, wings and magic wands, and then pop through the hedge between our properties to watch the horsies. Pixies in the woods, indeed!
May. 2, 2005, 04:52 PM
I had an AMAZING dressage lesson yesterday so today was my turn to put what I learned to practice and *attempt* to repeat it. My horse was fantastic. I couldn't have asked for a better ride!! I am finally feeling confident in our flatwork and think we have the basics to put in a really nice test.
So tomorrow I will do a bit of flatwork on the grass lawn and a short gallop. Keep refreshing what we learned yesterday throughout the week, make a run through my test...then off to our first show!!
According to weather.com, 70* and sunny on Saturday. Perfect eventing weather. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
May. 3, 2005, 06:14 AM
Fingers and toes crossed for you! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
Good Luck! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
May. 3, 2005, 06:22 AM
I'm a Happy News Virgin! Talk about late to a party. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
After traveling on business the first part of last week and then going to Rolex, I had not seen my 2 year old filly in over a week. Went to the barn last night and was just blown away by how beautiful and mature she looks all of a sudden. My baby's growing up!
May. 3, 2005, 07:17 AM
Finally I get to add to the happy news... I loff my new horse and I loff my new saddle. Last night I had my lesson and after 2-1/2 weeks my legs were a significant amount steadier at the trot, and my hands are getting alot better too. We jumped thru a gymnastic and my little saint sort of slow mo thru the first time (I had never jumped him thru one) and then we got it together. I am having sooo much fun again! YEAH! (of course my trainer keeps saying, you know the honeymoon will be over someday - but I tell her NO WAY!)
May. 3, 2005, 07:21 AM
I took second place this weekend in Novice which was big feat for my horse who used to be a chicken. He attacked the course which was maxed out and more of a training level size like it was a piece of cake. It was the best ride out x-country that I have ever had and I am still feeling all giddy inside from it http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Mr. Brain (Derby Day Dancer_ [roved himself a legitimate Novice horse, his first time out at that level.
He finished fifth on his dressage score of 34.5- which is nothing to be ashamed of either - in Open Novice at Difficult Run. Cross Country was a piece of cake. He was a bit tired for stadium, so I had to be sure to ride him forward and NOT get ahead, but it worked out very nicely.

My Happy News for Today http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

A good week for getting married- our anniversary (9th) is tomorrow (May 11).
May. 10, 2005, 06:50 AM
Congrats on the anniversaries! As of Thursday, I'll have known my BF for 3 months, does that count? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Frankie went to her first show this past weekend. A local hunter schooling show. She was REALLY good inside the ring. We just did (in the end) a single trot crossrail class and she was a bit fast, but rated really well back to a trot before each of the fences. I couldnt' have asked for much better. Outside the fence (waiting around) was a different story and not so happy, but her first outting at anywhere other than the racetrack went really well.
And jsut now I got the ride times for our first clinic this weekend with Cathy Wieschhoff. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
May. 10, 2005, 08:44 AM
After today...only 7 more days until the 8th graders go home to their parents and I can ride every day if I want!!! PLUS, there are only 17 more shopping days until my birthday! Woo Hoo! PLUS, I found brand spanking new TredStep half chaps on e-bay for $65!!

Holy crap, I can't believe this thread is still going! I think my happy news way back, which was a couple years ago, was that I got really skinny and all my breeches were hanging on me. Then I gained the 10 pounds back ... then I lost it again. Now, I have it back. My breeches are too snug. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

My sweet boy finished 2nd at Intermediate last weekend...worst dressage we've ever had and I was ready to pack up and head home afterwards. Glad I stayed! It doesn't happen so much anymore that one can salvage an abysmal dressage score, but it's really never over until the fat lady sings!!! Keep kicking!

ALSO!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The vet said I could possible start doing light flatwork with my mare in as little as 5 weeks, I can't believe it! I have some potenially good news:
I was talking with my good buddy who is trying to make it to Young Riders (to represent Area IV). She isn't getting along with her trainer (which actally is the coach too). We were talking about her possibly staying with me and training with MY trainer because I know he'd get along with her horse well. So we'll see, I have to talk to my trainer and then my barn owner and see if everything can work out.
Please cross your finger for my buddy... she really deserves to have FUN with her horse instead of being unhappy with her current trainer.
Also... give some jingles for my mare Lauren... she's getting better and flatwork might start in less then a month now.
May. 20, 2005, 08:28 PM
My happy news?! I'm an 8th grade teacher and today was the last day of school! Woooo Hooooo! I don't have to go back until the end of July. I KNEW there was a reason I decided to teach (yeah, yeah...plus I do like those 'tweens' for some reason or other).
May. 21, 2005, 12:26 PM
Just back from a three week vacation, our first in a very, very long time. The good news? There were NO disasters on the farm while I was away, and that's a first!
Also, took my OTTB project to a two phase just to look around (not compete) and she was a star. Next time, into the ring.

I just filled out my forms for the cross country schooling weekend up in Flagstaff June 4-5, and I'm about to fill out the entry for Copper Meadows the following weekend.
Plus I'm starting the exercise program in The Rider's Fitness Program (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1580175422/qid=1116732789/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-3433222-0922529?v=glance&s=books&n=507846).

Doing the happy dance...
I sold my wonderful homebred 3 yo gelding today. I evented his dam prelim, and he is as handsome and sweet as you could hope for. But he got so big, I was concerned about jumping him. He'll finish at a big- boned 17 hands plus, so he really is much more suited to dressage.
One of my neighbors fell in love with him, and bought him! It's a spectacular home: I think she'll take better care of him then even I could. And it's just down the street so I can see him whenever I want. Truly, this is the kind of sale that makes a breeder happy, happy, happy, so I just had to share.

could someone please try an unrain dance? http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
GWV/ getting moldy http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
May. 27, 2005, 03:27 AM
Barbara - looks like my "unrain" dance worked! The sun was out on my drive into Boston this morning!
I'm on vacation after 2pm today, going to do some riding!! Woohhooo!! (and lots of work on the house...boo hooo...)
May. 27, 2005, 07:20 AM
I got to ride Mr. Blondie last night! 45 minutes at the walk - my first time on him since our lesson last Saturday. He had Sunday off. While turned out Sunday night next to a nasty pony with Short Pony Syndrome, he ripped & pounded the cr@p out of his left hind leg, so we've been wrapping and cold-hosing and hand-walking all week. There was still some swelling yesterday, but he was sound at the walk, so my trainer prescribed 45 min at the walk. He was a very good boy, and didn't even spook at the bunnies making more bunnies on the cross country course.

We made it 98 pages of Happy News....Please!! Post your weekend plans!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

May. 28, 2005, 07:49 AM
Sleeping late as well... maybe giving my mare a bath depending on the temperature.
Oh... also I'm crossing my fingers for everyone in Kentucky at Mayfest HT to do well! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
May. 28, 2005, 10:35 AM
also crossing my fingers for those at Mayfest... This marks my one year anniversary of completing my first 3-day, even if it was at training level- it still gave the same affects- from what i understand http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif- and was the most fun event i've EVER done.
How am i celebrating? Playing with my new boy and going shopping for him http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Then giving my mare some much deserved attention on our anniversary- even tho she has no idea what it's about i'm sure she'll take the treats all the same. She made my day yesterday b/c a friend of mine has been leasing her, so i don't get to play with her as much... but when i went out to get her, she GALLOPED to me from the back of the paddock. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif boy do i miss her http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif

Not the best way to lose weight, But the fact that You are on the mend http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif Is Very Happy News!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
May. 30, 2005, 06:56 AM
As many of you know, I'm a teacher, and we're on summer break, so that's happy news to me. Even better is that I'm able to ride every day (if I like), and my 'project pony' has really been good lately. Lellie gave me some exceptional new tools on Wednesday that have really helped get him to focus (on my aids and not on the 999 other things at the farm) as well as soften his topline. There is hope for us yet!
My other happy news has nothing to with horses, but I've never seem my SO as happy as he was yesterday. My SO caddies at the Augusta National Golf Club, the home of the Master's tournament. Yesterday was caddie day at the golf club, and he and 100 other caddies were allowed to tee it up at 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. The pictures he returned home with were priceless (he looked like a kid in a candy shop, and he's 31), and he shot a 74 the 2nd 18 he played (that's only 2 over par) from the back tees (that's where Tiger Woods plays from!). He's got some great memories, a score card to prove it, and an experience that few have ever had the opportunity to have.
May. 31, 2005, 08:14 AM
anyone have any Happy News today?? I could use some. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
I'm home today with a Cold! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif Nothing serious, just a little moldy! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif Enough with the rain and clouds already! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
May. 31, 2005, 11:18 AM
Only for you, GWV, would I dredge up some happy news out of today...
I guess the happy news is that vet found no bone damage in the x-rays of Mr. Blondie's ankle (he chewed his leg up May 22 fighting with an attitudinal pony).
However, Mr. Blondie hopped away on three legs when the vet did a flex test on that ankle, so we're on a couple more weeks of rehab.
May. 31, 2005, 02:37 PM
Thanks, Rar! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
give Mr. blondie a hug for me! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Just awoke up, been sleeping http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sleepy.gif
May. 31, 2005, 04:14 PM
Thanks, GWV. I'll give him lots of hugs & kusjes and while we're hand-walking this evening, we'll pretend we're roaring to the finish line, with you healthy & cheering madly for us.
May. 31, 2005, 04:35 PM
Hmmm happy news:
Only 6 days until I get the cast off my arm and can heave to with a loofah, exfoliants, and a good moisturiser (everyone keep your fingers crossed they don't decide to cut me up instead!).
Only 21 days to go until shortest day here, days start to get longer, and I get to cease doing everything in the dark.
And best of all, only 2 days until I get to celebrate spending a whole 3 years with the red racehorse http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Carol - welcome back. RAR, hope Mr Blondie recovers soon.
May. 31, 2005, 08:36 PM
Picture day! Patrick standing (http://www.pbase.com/wendysmoak/image/44148595/), and Patrick with my mother-in-law (http://www.pbase.com/wendysmoak/image/44148591).
My happy news is along the same lines as RAR's-- nothing showed up on the ultrasound of the leg that *still* has the slight swelling. He's doing the maddening "Possibly slightly off (or maybe I'm imagining it) but not when the vet is watching."
May. 31, 2005, 09:44 PM
What a handsome fellow Patrick is! Looks like his "sabbatical" has agreed with him ;-)
Mr. Blondie was not at all shy about showing the vet exactly where it hurt. When the vet first tried to flex his ankle, he demonstrated amazing flexibility in hip & hock, and almost nailed the vet with a kick worthy of Steven Seagal.
Jun. 1, 2005, 12:18 AM
Absolutely marvelous cross country school at Fair Hill, over Training Level obstacles -- on my horse I have trained myself from right off the track. You just can't get any better than that. It was scary but fun to jump big jumps and he was very good about it. I ended with the feeling I could jump anything! It's been a long couple of years to get here and it's feeling like the world is just opening up for us! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Jun. 1, 2005, 06:20 AM
I took my guy to his first show last saturday! I had a lot of fun despite being completely rained out, and having to leave before my classes. He was a very good boy, a little spooky at first, but then I figured out he'd much rather have me on his back than standing around next to him. He had a fantastic warmup..very supple and focused, and he even jumped through the warm up fences in a balanced canter (this is RARE for my horse)
Jun. 1, 2005, 03:58 PM
at this rate, we may get to 99 pages of Happy News!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

My mare seems to be on a good trail right now... KNOCKING ON WOOD!
We've been able to go for a walk around the barn the last two days... I'm too nervous to venture away since she hasn't been acting up around the barn. We did five laps (yawn, yes!) but she's walking like a normal horse... WOOHOO! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Editted to add... only two more days of school. Only 4 finals to get through and I'm FREE for the summer. YAY! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

NO MORE SCHOOL (until 8/25).... YAY! I think my finals went okay. Chemistry didn't seem to good though, oops! Spanish and Health were easy. So far my grades look decent for this semester.
My mare seems sound and happy! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif We walked yesterday and she started off stiff and short strided but soon we were walking around the barn with a swingy, loose walk. Let's hope I can get on her at the end of this month... I think I've forgotten how to ride! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Jun. 3, 2005, 01:35 PM
Ditto RAR -- It's FRIDAY. This has been the longest short week ever in my world!
Happy dance that it is over! I'm leaving in 20 minutes to play with my lovely pony. Woohoo.
Jun. 3, 2005, 06:37 PM
Last day of classes was today...final exam on Tuesday and I'm out for the summer (except for work, of course). YAY! And my boy was very good today, despite the fact that he got turned out RIGHT when I got to the barn and I had to bring him back in!
Jun. 6, 2005, 05:26 PM
Almost 100 pages of Happy News!! I know there's More out there!!
Have You posted your Happy News Today?? http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
Jun. 6, 2005, 05:41 PM
I had an awsome lesson with my boy tonight. He had picture perfect leg yeilds, and we learned to collect and lengthen our trot strides as well as to tons of transitions completely off my seat. He had amazing square halts- and we even got to canter. He picked up both his leads, and we got some strides of butt action and true balance. Not bad for a horse who needed a pulley rein to stop and cantered like a runaway locomotive and trotted with the grace of a rhino just 3 months ago.
Plus my coach actually applauded me because of my seat...I was so excited!! I'm a pretty underconfident rider and am REALLY hard on myself, but tonight I really felt like a good rider.
Jun. 6, 2005, 05:58 PM
My mare has been looking good. A bit stiff but I would be too if I was 12 years old and only in a little area for the past two months.
She was turnout in a larger area today! WOOHOO. It's a big mud lot and she was with a 35+ TWH that kept her very quiet. It was good for her because she was actually able to walk around and loosen up a bit. I wish I could just hop on her bareback and take her for a ride around the property! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
Jun. 6, 2005, 06:21 PM
Well, my younger mare is on grass! Finally! Before that, pastures were too wet, not fenced-in, etc. etc. She is now happy as a clam and quiet.
My other (formerly picky eater and unthrifty) mare is in great weight, has a beautiful, shiny coat, nice muscling, and learning to NOT go YAHOO after her fences! Yay!
Jun. 6, 2005, 06:39 PM
Mr. Brain (Derby Day Dancer) did his second Novice this weekend at Waredaca, and again finished on his dressage score (39.5) which was good enough to finish 7th.
This is a habitI can live with!
Jun. 6, 2005, 06:42 PM
Cast was removed from my arm this morning, and not a minute too soon. Going to put Arnie back in work when "the claw" has regained some of its former strength. Who knew I had such delicate looking wrists?
Jun. 6, 2005, 08:37 PM
Okay, I'm a newbie to the "Happy News" thread, but I just have to share... My green 6yo TB went to his first Novice HT this weekend and was first after dressage (33.5). He was an absolute machine on XC -- no time or jump penalties, he was hungry for those fences! After x-c we were leading by 5.5 points. Stadium wasn't as smooth as I would have hoped, we had one rail, but no time penalites and clinched our WIN!! Yay! Later on Sunday we schooled the Training level course and the horse was all business - keen, eager and smart. I have a good feeling about this season (fingers crossed).
Jun. 6, 2005, 09:12 PM
I had a lesson tonight!! Mr. Blondie has been in rehab since he bunged up his leg "playing" with a nasty pony during night turnout on May 22. So it's been twice a day hand-walking, cold-hosing, and bute... the vet is due back next Monday to check on him.
Fortunately for me, one of the riders at my barn was looking for someone to half lease her paint gelding, so now I have a pony to ride! I think tonight's lesson was the best "first lesson" I've ever had.
And I'm smilin'...
And Mr. Blondie's leg looks more and more like a normal leg every day.
Jun. 6, 2005, 09:15 PM
Hmmmm... there must be some MORE happy news out there...
Let's see... I finally got the CSS working correctly on the redesign of our corporate home page.
I have a bag of mini York Peppermint Patties in the fridge.
My son's getting married in less than a month! (July 3)
Did I mention that I actually got to RIDE tonight? And I had fun. And my trainer called me an "effective rider" ;-)
Dare I say that neither of my cats has thrown up on my post-it notes lately? (One of them did, quite neatly, a couple weeks ago.)
My daughter FINALLY submitted her application to med school, after much agonizing over and editing of her personal statement. Her MCAT scores are due in about a week... fingers crossed for that.
The cross country schooling fundraiser up in Flagstaff this past weekend (which went on without us, alas) appears to have been a success.

Of or pertaining to the present day.

A reason to be happy: you can now Laugh Off the Extra Pounds (http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/conditions/06/04/laughter.weight.ap/index.html)
OK, so it's not going to make you look like Twiggy overnight, but it's better than being grumpy, right?
Jun. 6, 2005, 09:24 PM
As a result of our twice a day hand walks, Mr. Blondie is learning to "whoa" promptly and straight.
Let's hope this carries over to riding, shall we?
And I'm getting lots more exercise.
Jun. 6, 2005, 09:26 PM
My boss is still on vacation through next Monday - so I'm getting lots of productive stuff done.
She's on a cruise to some Greek islands with her husband. That's happy news for them.
Jun. 6, 2005, 09:29 PM
The Detroit Pistons are going back to the NBA Finals!!
Although we live in Arizona now, we lived in Detroit when (a) the Tigers won the World Series, (b) the Pistons won back-to-back NBA Championships, and (c) the Red Wings won back-to-back Stanley Cups.

Goodness, what a topic!
I have good news:
I worked on flatwork night before last with my TB who has been on a year layup. He's seems sound and ready to start some basic schooling. It's great just to sit on him again and have everything be "ok". http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Jun. 10, 2005, 07:26 AM
Happy Birthday, WGP!
My happy news is that Mr. Blondie is FINALLY off 2x/day bute. How can 10 days seem so long?
He's still being hand-walked, but is starting to feel good enough to explore his Inner Arab by spooking at non-existent things. And at the end of our walk this morning, I turned him loose in the bullpen and encouraged him to trot. He looked pretty good to me (in between the bucks ;-)
Jun. 10, 2005, 07:54 AM
I have some happy happy news...
Well I posted a thread about Vegas, but, I'm still happy about it!
And my new filly who now has a name "Lita" got a set of shoes and padsyesterday and looks like a million bucks! I lunged her yesterday and thought "wow! is this really my horse?"
I know it's back to the drawing board AGAIN, 3 OTTBs in less than 2 years
Jun. 10, 2005, 08:41 AM
Today is McVillesDad's and my 10th anniversary!
And, V has been very good lately...our last dressage lesson was probably the best we've had. I did dressage with him in the XC field yesterday (always the potential for a big can o'worms there, since there are a) XC jumps and b) hills) and he was great! We even did some sitting trot work and he stayed round and kept his back up! I had to ride him a little more strongly than I do in the arena (that is, all my aids had to be stronger, to hold him together) but a year ago, I could not have ridden him like that, he would have freaked. (BTW, one neighbor was using a power hedge trimmer and the other neighbor was running around all over the place on a 4-wheeler while I was riding. I really love my horse when it's HOT http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)
Jun. 10, 2005, 11:21 AM
1. Riley has decided to stop being a pig (for now) and is willing to work hard.
2. Charlie, the beautiful buckskin on stall rest gets to do handwalking and appears almost sound. Maybe he will be ready for greyiscute to do her A on next summer now that they changed the age limit in pony club.
3. Best of all, I get a break from my monthly bone drug IV for 3-6 months. doc says I am really stable and I sure feel that way!
Jun. 10, 2005, 11:45 AM
McVille's Mom--Happy Anniversary! I had to chime in here, since I got to meet McV's dad at Mayfest. What a great horse hubby he is! He's a keeper! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif There he was walking the course with you, helping out with things--not rolling his eyes with extreme looks of boredom (which is what my hubby does at horse shows). Oh, and your parents were so nice too.
Glad to hear that V is doing well. I'm sure I'll get to see you and your big, beautiful red boy at another event this summer. Good luck with him!
Jun. 10, 2005, 12:11 PM
It's been a long time, but my good news is that last weekend Fanny (the real Fanfayre) competed for the first time since last August, and the first time with me since September 2003. The REALLY, REALLY HAPPY NEWS is her leg didn't even get a smidge of swelling or heat. Now granted, she only competed training, when she had been doing Prelim, but still, she successfully competed! And, if I hadn't had a brain-fart and totally missed a jump on x/c we would have placed 4th. For a run-down of our trip x/c, please read RA'yers account of his trip on Shiver. I had chills down my spine reading it because that was EXACTLY how I felt. I couldn't reply to his post because I kept getting all choked up http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
Jun. 10, 2005, 01:45 PM
Last Sunday my greenie and I took our first Novice fences out schooling. He dropped into the water like a pro, took the bank out of the water without batting an eyelash, and jumped the ditch with vigor! I couldn't be more proud of my big baby http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Now, if only it would stop raining for Round Top tomorrow!
Jun. 10, 2005, 01:58 PM
We would be delighted if you could gently shove that rain in our direction... the barn is Dust Central these days.
Jun. 12, 2005, 08:23 PM
I had a wee bareback trot up the hill on the red monster last night after 6 weeks off with my arm in plaster. And I'm still alive, and the ER didn't become involved, and I'm so pleased that he was well behaved when his mutant mother decided to hop on him with just a headcollar on!
Jun. 12, 2005, 08:47 PM
My mare was sound today! We even went on a 20 minute handwalk, although it was only in the outdoor arena, it's still an improvement from walking around the barn... maybe soon it will be around the property!
I have been spraying the heck out of her with fly spray hoping she'll stop pounding her hurt leg... so I guess it's working!
YAY for Lauren.
Jun. 13, 2005, 05:33 AM
The good news is that this rotten weather is supposed to break on Thursday, so Groton House should have terrific conditions.
Will you be there GWV?

Jun. 16, 2005, 09:40 AM
Mr. Blondie's owie-leg continues to improve, albeit slowly (knock wood). He's feeling well enough to spook quite athletically at the non-existent during our twice-daily hand walks.
So I'm hoping...
Jun. 16, 2005, 11:15 AM
I cantered my new project pony for the first time yesterday, and he didn't try to kill me! He is coming along SO very nicely, and is learning SO quick... None of the bucking and bolting issues that he apparently had before have come out at all! And GOSH is he fun! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I couldn't have asked for a more perfect horse in my life right now. Look for us at Rolex in 5 years http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif He's so talented, just had a rough life so far... It was *the* perfect situation! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Jun. 16, 2005, 11:29 AM
Congrats Laura, so good to hear about your progress!! I can't wait to see him in action.
Jun. 16, 2005, 11:42 AM
I feel like we are FINALLY on our way!!
My new mare of 6 months was diagnosed with EPM last fall. After a long emotional struggle and way too much $$ in vet bills, she is back up and running. All was going well with a 2nd place finish three weeks ago at Fair Hill.
Then we had quite a scare last week when an unknown lamness creeped up. (very much the same symtomes of the original EPM problems...shortness of hind-end and stumbling) My parents did the whole "If she relapses we need to give her back" deal. (that really upset me!) Between lots of crying, stress, vet visits, and loss of entry fees, the conclusion is only back pain due to poor fitting saddle. So we are back on track again and in full work (with a new saddle http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) Allie and I are scheduled to *finally* go training next weekend at BCHP. (this date is about 4.5 months overdue!) We are going to kick butt and hopefully this will be the start to yet another move up to prelim (again, long over due!)
I have a fantastic horse and I am so happy to be able to ride her again. Wish us luck!
