Sorry I missed you, but I bet you probably heard or saw us. The 6 of us that were riding Training were making an awful lot of noise having fun cheering each other on!
We had a really Good time http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Congrats on the good finishes!
We didn't wait for the final scores wanted to get up 495 before the Pats game let out.
Did the scoring of Stadium and x-country seem strange to you?
Oct. 18, 2004, 11:21 AM
I think that they used the old scoring system for Stadium, not the new one. That is, instead of 4 pts for a rail or a refusal, it was 5pts for a rail, 10 for a refusal.
Sorry to have missed you,

Well, Barbara, I have the plaque hanging right under a lamp in my study (the light brings out the beautiful blue tones). My study is at the top of the stairs, and has the open staircase on one side, so my (blush) shy self has the handsome plaque right on the wall that everyone faces when they come up!
The entirely spectacular ribbon is hanging from the ceiling next to the bookcase in the tackroom. It's out of the direct sun, and puts every other ribbon in the place to shame.
Congrats to this year's winners of the King Oak Master's trophys!

Can't remember, but I know that you cannot JUST own ONE!)

good for you purplepants! my BF (before my husband - if that needs to be clarified! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) went to Aberdeen too - I know he loved it there..he rowed. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Then I lived in England for a year, and went up to visit his friends there -very beautiful city I think..the first and only time I had deep fried haggis.. (kind of good surprisingly) - I am still holding off on deep fried Mars bars..
Oct. 23, 2004, 11:53 AM
Cool Fred! It is a really beautiful place. Both of my American friends here do rowing and really like it. No Haggis or Mars bars for me yet but I have had plenty of "interesting" experiences.
slp - We just ride the little school ponies that are SUPER tolerant of us novices whacking them with our polo mallets but one of the guys on the team is from Argentina and FLYS his STRING of polo ponies (6 I think) to Scotland to play sometimes. Yes he is a college student http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Happy news, hmmmm.... Well... my puppy was good for his bath! He didn't run around the house soaking wet with soap coming off him this time http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And I sent in an entry to a dressage show on my dad's horse AND I don't think I'm going to die... I actually think we might stay in the ring!
Oct. 25, 2004, 04:22 AM
I should have posted this LAST week, but now's good, too! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Last Monday morning (OCt. 18) I had a lovely buckskin filly born, at 5:20 am! She's very sweet, with two little white socks, behind. I've named her Dancing In the Morning, aka Bunnikins, aka the Rodent. Her mom is a very nice little arab mare, and her dad is my cremello, Dancing All Night.
I'll send photos to False Impression, and she'll scan them and put them on my webshots page!
Now, I'm just waiting for one more mare to foal.
Oct. 25, 2004, 05:14 AM
Well, my good news for today is not your typical good news. I am happy to tell you that saturday at opening meet I: 1) had the most IMPESSIVE fall of the day. 2) was only unconcious for a little bit. 3)banged up my knee only bad enough for a knee brace and a week off of riding. YAY! Atleast I didn't tear my knee up like poor Deltawave. we had a great ride though! Everyone was impressed that I stayed on teh mare as long as I did. We hunted (at a decent pace with LOTS of jumps) for about 3 hours before she finally outsmarted me. I actually really enjoyed myself.
Had a huge party saturday night. Got to get all dressed up in a black gown and strut around on high heels (not so easy with a bad knee, mind you). Everyone had a blast!
Oct. 25, 2004, 06:42 AM
Monday Morning brag. . . I couldn't event all summer (yearling fractured a spinous process and couldn't be left alone, then gelding severed his palkor nerve.) So, with my new instructor I went to one of our local unsanctioned HTs and won my division. The judge was one of the few really tough judges and gave me a glowing dressage sheet.
I will add also that I started riding with a new instructor last Fall and I'm still using him. What a difference when you have an instructor that clicks with you and your horse.
Oct. 25, 2004, 07:24 AM
Well, my good news is that we're ready for winter: barn has been cobwebbed and the windows washed, horse dentist, farrier and alternative vet have all made visits, and blankets are slowly making their way out of summer hiding.
Also, my little weanling has arrived from Maine! He and Mom came down in wonderful shape, they both stayed overnight at Groton House, and then the mare was shipped back to Maine the next morning. He has handled it wonderfully, and doesn't seem stressed at all. It helps to have another foal to go through weaning with, and there is a lovely filly at GHF who is his buddy for the next several months. I'm hoping that being in the wonderful Groton House fields will inspire him to be a great eventer!
Oct. 25, 2004, 08:07 AM
Mr. Blondie and I did our 3rd show together yesterday, a schooling show "at home". (Our first two shows were recognized... not exactly the way it's supposed to go, I suppose ;-)
Anyway, THAT's not the happy news. The happy news is that we finished on our dressage score, and ended up in 3rd.
Just a small schooling show, and with home field advantage, but in light of some recent jumping difficulties, I was ecstatic to finish on our dressage score.
Oct. 27, 2004, 03:39 AM
I seem to have lost another 5 pounds!!Don't know how, since I've been eating wonderful things like strawberry twizzlers for breakfast!

Oct. 27, 2004, 07:17 AM
Well, I didn't exactly get engaged or anything (CONGRATS NoGreatMischief!!!). But Monday was a GREAT day. When I got to work my boss gave me a card and said that I was off for the day... wierd. The card was from my wonderful byfriend and it had a clue in it. Well, that was at 10:00 am. My scavenger hunt ended at 8:45pm at Provinos' (a REALLY nice Italian restaurant) where he gave me a Promise Ring (and a dozen of the prettiest roses I've ever seen). The ring is beautiful. When people see it, they ask when the wedding is. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It's quite a ring for a promise ring. .5 kt platinum set with 3 stones. It's gorgeous!!!
Yay for awesome boyfriends!!!
Oct. 27, 2004, 12:05 PM
Congrats everyone on all their great news!
I'm getting a horse vet checked on friday! He is just the ideal horse for me with his temperment and experience. I was the first person to get on him in 3 weeks last time i rode, and he couldn't have been better. I've been searching for 5 months. I was forced to give away my first horse after he was injured and I've really been broken up about it, to the point where I couldn't even sleep at times after we lost him. I haven't even been able to ride for 7 months, unless I was trying out a horse. If this guy passes, he'll be in my barn by Saturday! I'm trying not to get to excited though, I am really not up for another disappointment.
if you could, keep your fingers crossed for me.
Oct. 27, 2004, 01:17 PM
You guys are too cute! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Thanks for all the congrats! I had quite the exciting weekend!
Hey Clues, we're staying just south of PDC, at Xpu-Ha Palace. 2 Years ago we were closer... at BP Akumal. It's so beautiful there! We visited PDC which was tons of fun! My parents stayed at the Puerto Real in PDC...it's lovely as well. I'm so excited to go back to the land of sun and free-flowing booze http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif As for the test, I was suprised to do so well... at the beginning of the term about 75% of the class was close to tears every lecture.
Foxy, what great news about the promise ring! This will be my second marriage, and I didn't think I wanted a ring this time, but we went into an antique store a couple of weeks ago and there it was...my dream ring...it's a platinum eternity band with a whack of sapphires and diamonds. Apparently it's from the 1920's. It's beeeeeautiful!
Lately I've had to pinch myself, my life has been going so well! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Big Blue, good luck with the vet check...my fingers and toes are crossed for you! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Oct. 28, 2004, 05:11 AM
NoGreatMischief~ that sounds beautiful!!! My mom's engagement ring is sapphire and diamonds. I absolutely LOVE it! congrats!!!
Big Blue~ Let us know how the vet check goes!!! As a fellow "shopper" I'm rooting for ya! I think I've found my new guy too, but I'm not going to jinx it until I've got him home. I'll check in with you all about that in a couple of weeks http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Bad news from the doctor's office yesterday afternoon, but good news -- I had a wonderful jump school on my own at home and enjoyed the fall day, my favorite time of year.

Daughter #1 took her green horse to opening hunt (unfortunately his first hunt) and he was fabulous. Daughter #2 (big chicken) rode her horse too on her first opening hunt and had at least an OK time. Boyfriend in tow got bored on wagon, he needs to learn to ride. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 12:31 PM
Yay Foxy! Oh man, you have to wait until Sunday, though? I'd be beside myself!
Today's happy news is that my horse (Ute) is having his first training ride tonight with our new (event!) trainer!
We just moved in on Sunday, and already he's made friends with the only other Appy in the barn, who is stabled right across from Ute, and is his turnout buddy as well.
I rode Ute last night in the new arena and he was a star...usually he's a bit of a princess, looking and shying at everything, especially new things, but he was such a brave little soldier http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.
Man, do I love my horse! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Nov. 3, 2004, 10:36 AM
Gotta do a bit of a brag. Yesterday I took my three yo homebred filly and my 2 yo homebred gelding to my coach's barn for a "lesson". Actually, the lesson for the filly was having someone else (my coach) ride her, and the lesson for the colt was his first trip away and in an indoor.
I'm so proud of them! They both behaved well. Filly did WTC both ways and looked very cute. The gelding lounged well, and then I got on him for 5 minutes of walk- trot. It was his third ride ever, and he was sooo good: steered, stopped and went on when asked. He's now done with formal lessons until spring. It made me feel as though some days I sort of know what I'm doing! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Nov. 5, 2004, 08:27 AM

Me and my BO are going to set up a gymnastic line to jump today or tomorrow.....today it's been sunny, windy, rain, slett, ice and snow. Only in NH!
It's exciting to live in northern NH and still be jumping outside in November! That makes me happy!
Nov. 5, 2004, 08:41 AM
Trail ride tomorrow with azeventer and her horse Sully, then going out with the beagles Sunday morning, to see how Mr. Blondie fares in the hunt field....
Nov. 5, 2004, 08:43 AM
I have some happy news! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif My 4 yo who recently moved just 8 miles down the road had his first night ride last night. It was windy and raining and dark out by the time I got to the barn, plus he was right in the middle of dinner. He stood happily to be tacked up and was such a brave boy walking in the pitch black to the indoor that is quite a ways from the barn. He was also a star his first time in the indoor under the lights. To top it off he walked back to the barn on the buckle in the dark and took no notice to cars driving by with their headlights, wind blowing quite a bit, and the COLD. Not in a million years would I ever dream of having a 4 yo bright chesnut TB that is as dead quite and wonderful as this. I was such a proud and happy mommy http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Nov. 7, 2004, 07:11 AM
Wow!! That's Great!!
Nov. 7, 2004, 07:27 AM
I am in need for some happy news... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
There's this lovely mare that I've been working with and I would like to buy... PROBLEM, she's a bit of a nut-case which I believe I can work on her and fix that but my dad (who will be paying all the bills) thinks she's not worth it.
Ariel is a 15.3 hand Oldenburg/Arabian (by Frohwind) cross, she's 7 yrs. old. I fell in love with her the day I sat on her... I wasn't even meaning to buy her, but just to work with her and train her for her owner to sell.
Last weekend we planned a trip to take her XC schooling, well after a hour of trying to get her into my trailer we quit. She's very barn sour and her evil side came out. I had some VERY helpful advice on getting her to load over on the Horse Care board but I still need to convince my dad that's she's worth all this time and effort... I just don't know how to do it!
She's a wonderful mare and we work well together, I would love any advice or words of incouragement... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Nov. 7, 2004, 08:07 PM
I have a show photo to share from Grass Ridge last month: BN Stadium (http://www.pbase.com/wendysmoak/image/36075531)
Not my favorite weekend, but I'm glad one of the pictures was decent.

He settled right in at home and is absolutely the sweetest thing I've ever seen. I'm going to have to start a topic about him to show him off http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif and I'll hopefully have the pics off the digital camera by tonight. YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!
Nov. 9, 2004, 07:06 AM
I am so disappointed in you! No good news?????? I am still floating! SOMETHING good has to be going on out there!
Nov. 9, 2004, 07:39 AM
Well....as for me I have no immediately Happy News that I can think of. With the big freeze last night and the cold snap, I am once again realizing that it really does get cold every November, no matter how nice the summer is!! (I think it's kind of like forgetting the pain and trauma of childbirth.....but every year!)
I am trying to keep positive thoughts though, so how about .... there was a HUGE layoff at my company last week, but I didn't get laid off! See that makes me feel better!
Foxy - LOOOOOOVE your new guy! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The bad news was that Brain "grew" an abscess between dressage and cross country at Foxcroft two weeks ago. The good news is that we wnet back this week to school, and he was great on all the BN fences, and some of the higher stuff.
I went with Gillian, and we put him to some of the biger fences (including Training). She called it "pushing the envelope", I called it "deliberately overfacing him", but the object was to determine how he reacts when"pushed- to see if he is "an upper level prospect" or not.
While it took him a couple of tries to figure it out, he did it all (including jumping oover a coulpe of logs into deepish water, a ramp drop, and a BIG chair).
The verdict was that, based on what she saw on Saturday, he IS an "upper level prospect.
She is going to work with him some more this week while I am at the Internet Engineering Task Force meeting to confirm (or not) this.

Yay, my winter omnibus arrived today! Now if my mare would only get sound...so we can start planning for 2005! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hey Janet! Congrats on Brain! It sounds like he's got the makings of a star.

Hey Janet! Congrats on Brain! It sounds like he's got the makings of a star.

Thanks,
Unfortunately, Gillian came down with some kind of a bug, and couldn't ride him. Hopefully she will be able to ride him this week.
But,on Sunday, I did some of the "Lucinda Green" exercises with him.
He got the concave approach to the arrowhead right away (though he WAY overjumped it the first couple of times).
It took him a couple of tries to figure out how he was supposed to do the conves approach. But once he figureed it out, he was consistently good about it.
The same witn the skinnies- the first few times, he was concentrating so much with his front end, that he forgot he had to get his back end over as well. But then he figured it out.
Then we combined the arrowhead (both ways) with 2 skinnies set on "not a true distance". Not a problem!
And we finished up with jumping on an angle. A striaght line that started off over one arm of the arrowhead, then the skinny at about a 45 deg angle, then a (normal width) at a 45 deg angle the other way. We made it a slightly curving line (there really isn't room to jump a 4' wide skinny at a full 45 degree angle), and he left long for the X the first time. But going the other way, and the second time in the original direction were sensible and workmanlike!

I have to say that I HATE that ramp. While I know that my hatred of that ramp is based on one particular horse, I still respect anyone who jumps it http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Where is the big chair? Maybe we call it something else?
Nov. 15, 2004, 08:34 AM
The big chair is at the top of the hill, near the treeline. You come up quite a steep hill, through the trees, and then the chair is right there, as soon as the ground flattens out. It isn't THAT big, but it looks bigger because you come uphill to it, and it is certainly more imposing than anything else he has seen.
He did the little chair (that is on the BN course) without hesitation, and he just flew over the hay manger that always concerns me because of the false ground line.
Nov. 15, 2004, 09:58 AM
Ahh differences are what make us human http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I love the hay manger, I consider it an easy jump, even with the false groundline. That could be I can't find a spot to any groundline http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif Whereas that ramp sends shivers down my spine b/c I used to ride the world's dirtiest quitter and I could envision him putting a foot through the ramp and flipping over on me as we roll down the hill http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Nov. 15, 2004, 12:36 PM
I got to ride on Sunday, and despite being as sore as humanly possible, I had SUCH a good time. I haven't been able to just jump and have fun like that since last november. and even better-the horse that I rode is for sale and in my price range http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Nov. 18, 2004, 01:28 PM
In an effort to keep this on page 1 of the eventing forum...
The good news is that once again the COTH BB is responding in an unbelievable fashion to make clear just how many people want to save the traditional three day. Folks have volunteered time, money, and their creativity to almost instantly pull together a t-shirt, a petition campaign and an ad to get support beyond this BB.
It's truly been amazing watching it happen. If anyone has to do a case study on the impact of interactive technology to address issues of common interest, this would be a great one.
Congrats to all!
Nov. 20, 2004, 04:59 AM
The good news is that nothing bad happened this week! It was a bit touch and go at the beginning with a boarder threatening to euthanize her stallion because she can't lease him and won't sell him, but things have been sorted out in that department.
You don't bring a horse to board at a farm known for rescues and then plan on destroying him, without letting the farm owner know! thank goodness for those late night phone calls, alerting me to the scheme!
All in all, not a bad week. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Nov. 20, 2004, 11:10 AM
Last night I was SOOOO happy hear Patrick's heart beating more regularly instead of skipping beats like it has been doing. He still dropped a few beats at rest, but after I trotted him briefly in the roundpen he didn't drop ANY for 60 beats! (Then he moved and I couldn't hear anything further.)
Nov. 22, 2004, 06:16 AM
Me and my horse made our debut at Training level yesterday http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif (just a little combined test at our barn)
He was great...... and we won!!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Nov. 22, 2004, 02:47 PM
I had three of my horses behave really well today!
Went for a gallop on the beach with the 12 yo mare: the weather was perfect, and she was light as a feather in my hand. We must have galloped 1-1 1/2 miles out. Now that's a great feeling!
Then I took my 5 yo OTTB and my homebred 3 yo over to my coach's barn for two of her students to ride. They had never been on my horses, and the horses are rarely ridden my anyone but me, so it was an interesting experimant. Both mares behaved brilliantly, especially the 3 yo. It's so wonderful to see your babies grow up!
Now, if I could just find someone to buy one of them, I could bring home another CANTER cutie!
By the way, has anyone heard from the GWV lately?
Nov. 26, 2004, 09:39 PM
No happy news for 4 days?!?!!?
This it be wrong.
My happy news: Great dressage lesson Tuesday. Fun hack Wednesday. Wonderful trail ride Thursday with Mr. Blondie's New Best Friend, Picasso the Wonder Pony (18h DWB pinto - the sight of their butts side-by-side in the trailer is a hoot!). FANeffingTASTIC jumping lesson today with Mr. Blondie's Other Best Friend, Mr. O'Sullivan.
Nov. 27, 2004, 04:23 PM
Well, the week got a SLOW start, and there was NO happy news anywhere in sight to report, but it did improve. I had to stay in auburn for Thanksgiving week to work and didn't get to spend the holiday with my family (or anyone for that matter). It was a depressing week. It rained cats and dogs for DAYS.
BUT, Thursday afternoon it cleared up and I finally got to ride. Jelly was GREAT (as always). he is just such a JOY to ride. Then My parents decided to come down and bring me thanksgiving dinner yesterday. They came out to the barn to see me ride Jelly and he was even better than the day before! I am SO HAPPY with this horse. he is just such a pleasure.
And I heard from Foxy's new owners for the first time today. They are very happy with Foxy and love her a lot. That's very good to hear. They did, however, change her name... Kinda weird. Foxy is now "Rosie"..... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif her Reg. name is Raindrops on Roses, so they liked "Rosie"... whatever. she's happy and that makes my heart happy.
Dec. 1, 2004, 04:45 AM
Come On guys!!! Another 4 days with no happy news?!?! We can do better than that!
I sent in my entry form yesterday for the Jumping Branch 3-phase. I know, cutting it close since the closing date is *swallow* today... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif what can I say, I'm a procrastinator at heart. There is already a waiting list, so I may not get in, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I would have sent it in earlier but I had decided not to go. Then i found out I was going to Aiken that weekend anyway, so I said "Honey, we're bringin the horse!". Hopefully it'll work out! I wanna get in!
And the semester is almost over! Have classes until a week from today then finals the next Mon and Tues. Then Christmas break for a MONTH!!!!! Yay! And Auburn in going to the SEC championship this weekend! We've already beat Tennessee once, just gotta do it one more time. War Eagle!
Now your turn!
Dec. 1, 2004, 06:12 AM
Has anyone heard from BarbaraG? She's usually on this thread quite a bit.
Oh GWV, where art thou?
Dec. 1, 2004, 06:17 AM
OK... I'll play!
If you go to the hunting forum (http://chronicleforums.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=6656094911&f=5106053911&m=998201074), you can read about Mr. Blondie's second outing with the beagles this past Sunday, complete with photos. We had a good time.
Dec. 4, 2004, 07:50 AM
Here I am!! Just a bit rushed lately.....
Glad to see this thread can run without its' Mom for a while.
Let's have some cheer!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Lurking for a while http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif
Dec. 4, 2004, 08:00 AM
yay! The GWV is back!
Now 'fess up: I bet you're all ready for Christmas, right? While we've been here on the BB, you've been shopping, wrapping and writing.
Oh well, I'll get caught up one day.
Dec. 4, 2004, 12:50 PM
It is SO beautiful here today, and I had the best ride. I am so, so lucky to board at a huge and beautiful farm where I can hack for ages and enjoy some lovely scenery and wildlife. Had a great dressage school by the pond and I'm thinking life is really good. What a gift to have days like this. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Dec. 4, 2004, 04:49 PM
I have a happy news update...
My horse has been at the event barn for just over a month now...I have a totally different horse, in a good way!
His shape and way of going have improved so much after just one month with the new trainer...I had a lesson the other night and was happier than I've been in months! He was responsive, light in my hands, like I said, a totally different horse!
My best riding friend also moved her horse to this barn, and tomorrow we're going for a hack out back. Ooohh, and here's a secret...we hopped up a little bank, and jumped a sizeable log out in the back forty last weekend and he took it all in stride...a big step for my generally bug-eyed-at-everything-new Appy!
And in unrelated happy news...two weeks from now I'll be in Mexico! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Dec. 5, 2004, 04:05 PM
same news - both happy and sad. I sold one of my weanlings, the filly full sister to My Romance... and she left for her new (eventing) home today. Beautiful, smart filly just walked up on the big scarey trailer with me... I hugged the lady who bought her, waved as they drove down the driveway, and cried my eyes out...
I'm happy she has gone to such a good home; I'm sad to see her go. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif
Dec. 8, 2004, 08:18 AM
What?! Not happy news for HOW many days? I \'m rescueing this from half-way down the second page!
The good news is, that nothing bad has happened for the last couple of weeks!
And, so far, I haven't burned a single batch of Christmas cookies!
Dec. 8, 2004, 08:35 AM
I haven't burned any Christmas cookies, either. But I haven't made any yet... :-(
Going hunting tomorrow, and it's not supposed to RAIN!!!
Dec. 8, 2004, 01:48 PM
It has been raining for days, my arena is a lake and my horses are standing in a mud pit
BUT.......I got my tack room completely organized and all of my leather cleaned and conditioned - something I have been promising to do for years (the organizing - not the cleaning http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif).
Dec. 8, 2004, 01:56 PM
I just got a raise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Now I can spend EVEN MORE on my horse http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Dec. 8, 2004, 03:50 PM
Congrats on the raise! I am looking for a new job (even though I love the job I have) that pays better so that I can spend it on the horse too. That IS why we work...right? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Jelly and I went to our first jumping lesson today. It was great! It wasn't like "he was perfect" great, or "I was perfect" great. Both of us did the stuff that we are notorious for (i.e. him pulling me towards fences or running away from them, and me jumping a little ahead or not opening my shoulders...). So to someone watching it may have looked hideous, but I had a BLAST! We learned a lot and she gave us some great homework to take to Birmingham for Christmas break. ALL of the jumping inst. that I've tried up to now have taught me NOTHING and just did an hour of "jump that....ok, now jump that..." and didnt' teach me a da%* thing. This new girl was GREAT about explaining things and helping fix stuff. We improved by leaps and bounds in just an hour today!
She says we'll be jumping novice/training level coarses like a million dollars next spring. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif We'll see how true it is, but it's sure nice to hear!

that's my plan for success too! although I have already started tucking into the Christmas cake.. how fat can I make myself in the shortest time?
Dec. 9, 2004, 06:25 AM
Oh No! I haven't MADE my Christmas cake yet! Got to get started.
Dec. 9, 2004, 08:30 AM
My happy news is that I have not even let the thought of Christmas cake into my brain...I have actually been meeting with a personal trainer 3X/week for 6 weeks and am finally feeling like all this strength training stuff is going to make a difference in my riding!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
And...to Mexico in 27 days...yahoo!!
Dec. 9, 2004, 09:50 AM
My happy news is that we got our first "8" on a movement in our dressage test at a schooling horse trial. Yes, it was the trot down the centerline to enter at A, and yes, it did go downhill from there, but I was thrilled with it anyway.
Dec. 9, 2004, 11:03 AM
You, go, rebeginner! We once got a "3" on that movement - the infamous Prozac Pony Face Plant (http://www.aledobb.com/ezzell/faceplant.wmv).
Dec. 9, 2004, 11:53 AM
R-A-R - my LORD I have never seen anything so amusing!
How the h8&^ did you stay on?
I can't believe you actually got a "3"!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Dec. 9, 2004, 12:00 PM
R-A-R, I have to admit I had seen your infamous video before and have played it numerous times in my mind's eye as a cautionary tale to be prepared for anything!
Dec. 9, 2004, 12:12 PM
CluesGirl: I can't believe I got a "3", either. It was a schooling show... maybe the judge was grateful that she didn't have to dial 911.
rebeginner: Happy to be a source of inspiration ;-)
I was POSITIVE that he was going to flip us over.
Dec. 10, 2004, 10:13 PM
Im planning on going to Rolex in the spring!!
My barn is also planning on making a small x-country course!
Dec. 11, 2004, 11:39 AM
Very happy news! See my thread in the breeding forum, and check out the new sig. line. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Pics will likely be up by tonight, in my webshots album. (Thanks to False Impression, my own personal horse photographer!) http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
Dec. 11, 2004, 04:41 PM
OK, I am knocking on some serious wood.....I have ended my eventing and hunting season without any real injuries to my "boys"or me!!!
Phew, you never know when the "law of averages" will catch up.
Now everyone will have their shoes pulled for 2-3 months. Until next year......
Dec. 14, 2004, 11:45 AM
Fingers and toes crossed for you!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

While I type late into the night to wish all good cheer,
And gladness that my barn renovation is near!
18 MONTHS in the works! A barn from early 1800s is being restored by an honest to goodness Amish team. I have been grumbling about the situation in other posts, but this is the GOOD NEWS POST!!
The good news is that the barn is getting done!
Dec. 21, 2004, 08:07 PM
It's 20 degrees warmer than it was yesterday!!! Of course, the temperature is still in NEGATIVE numbers . . . hmmmmmm but it sounds good http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and a New Year full of realized eventing dreams.
BarbaraG, I hope you and Warren have a great holiday, and that you are able to be out volunteering more this year. We missed you!
And I hope all of your ponies, puppies and kitties get lots of holiday treats, too.
Dec. 22, 2004, 02:48 PM
Well I have some happy(ish) news for once! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Last Sunday my friend took me out to try this TB mare named Lauren. Lauren is a 16.1(ish) VERY petite, bay, TB mare. She's about nine or ten, not exactly sure. In 2000, she was down at West Palm Beach doing the 3'6" jumpers. Lately she's just been ridden lightly by her owner's step-daughter.
Well when I went out to try her I didn't really know what to expect. I half expected her to be lame since her owner told us about problems she'd had in the past. When I got on she was perfectly sound. The farrier thinks she had MAJOR bruises on her front hooves that are grown out so she won't have any other problems.
I just did some simple flatwork. She was in her little "hunter hack" type of frame and she seemed to get "stuck" there. But she understood when I wanted her to go lower and then when I'd ask her to lift up with her shoulder and use herself more. Her canter was pretty strung out and she would barrel race around her turns... but her canter seemed nice. The indoor was quite small so it was hard to get a "feel" for it.
I hopped over some little jumps with her, just a little vertical... trotting to it. She's sooo different from my pony. My pony was extemely forward, almost like he was saying "let me go attack that fence", Lauren has the attitude of "oh, look it's a jump, okay". My friend and I were feeling quite brave so we put out some barrels. Lauren, which I figure has NEVER jumped barrels before, coming from the hunter/jumper world, trotted up slowly... looked at them and then just jumped right over them. I was sooo suprised, I figured okay she'll probably stop and look at them, not a big deal, but nope, she's like okay, I'll jump it.
On Sunday, my friend and I are going to go out again so I can ride her. Lauren's owner is going to meet us out there too. I think we're going to work out some sort of a free-lease for a few months since no one is working with Lauren and her owner doesn't have enough money to pay for a horse that she isn't doing anything with. If things go well, there might be a possibility that Lauren might become my next horsey... we'll just see!
Sorry for this to be rambly and going on forever... I just wanted to share. I've been trying quite a few horses and some had attitude problems or just didn't work with me. From the minute I sat on Lauren we clicked so well and she was just so happy with me on her. So all this is very exciting for me. She's a bit older then what I was orginally looking for but at least I wouldn't have to worry about the baby-ness and foolishness of the greenies. On Sunday, my friend will videotape me so I'll try to get some still-shots off of that to post and share with y'all.
I think Lauren would benefit from a few months of solid dressage work, with some jumping here and there to keep her happy. She's just sooo smart it's hard to explain! She's not one of those rude mares, she has quite a lovely, sweet personality actually.
I hope everyone has a VERY Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
Keep all the "Happy News" coming, I think this thread is going to be going on for quite some time.
Dec. 23, 2004, 04:36 AM
Yeah, congrats gm1188!
My most important piece of Happy News is that we went and looked at a house yesterday on 2.5 acres with a 4-stall (3 + tack/feed) Morton barn! The property is set up so you can see all 3 dutch doors from the kitchen window, and from the HOT TUB on the deck! Sigh....fantasy....but the house needs some TLC and is priced pretty high for the condition. We are in the middle of an investment property complete gut and reno right now, but we are thinking about making a low-ball offer on this one!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
My other Happy News is that in one week from tomorrow we are off the Playa del Carmen for two weeks. Can't wait, even though I don't want to think about getting into a 2-piece bathing suit right now! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif I always think "there will be people there who look way worse than me!" No riding I guess, since I've heard all the ponies are VERY skinny and my suitcase isn't big enough to bring them home. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif So I will be going thru serious withdrawals!
Happy Holidays to all the Happy News-bearing eventers (and wanna-bes)!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Dec. 23, 2004, 07:00 AM
I just got the call yesterday that my Albion saddle is in from Europe two weeks earlier than expected. I should be getting it next week!!!!! I can't wait!!!!! Merry X-mas too me!!!

Hey Barbara, you mean a cat like the link above? He's looking for a good home for the holidays!!
Dec. 24, 2004, 05:59 AM
and he comes in size extra large!!
He's very handsome, I hope he gets a good home for Christmas!
Dec. 24, 2004, 09:38 AM
Yes, He's lovely...but the "girls" have their claws. Not sure it would work. I'll search more after the Holiday. Not really fair to bring in a kitty now.
I just thought of a use for the "short format"....as a warm-up for the Real Thing!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Well, I have some good news for christmas morning! First of all, Jelly's leg is BETTER!!! I turned him out this morning. It's the first time he's been allowed to leave his stall (except for walks on the lead line) since last friday. He looks great and is very happy.
And santa was very kind! He brought Jelly a new cooler, and new splint boots. I also got $400 cash and my parents are going to pay for my riding lessons every week until I leave for KY this summer!!!!!!! BEST PRESENT EVER! It's been so hard to be a college student paying for my horse AND all of our lessons. I'm so excited!
hope everyone else got what they wanted and have a great christmas!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!
We heard from our army son today. The first real news since his battlion left Kuwait for Iraq. Their convoy made the very dangerous 400 mile trip with nooooo problems. Relieved and happy here. One month down 12 to go.

Jelly is not as "Better" as I thought.... That's not the good news. The good part is that since santa was so good to me, I have hope of being able to pay the vet bills.... yay for me....
-is it over yet?-
Dec. 28, 2004, 07:39 PM
What's wrong with Jelly?! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I keep seeing your posts about Jelly not being Jelly and such but I just don't know what's wrong!
Whatever is the case, I really hope he gets better, and quickly! It stinks not to have a healthy horse, it seems like a lot of us are going through horse issues... why can't horses always be sound and healthy... YEESH!
Dec. 29, 2004, 06:34 AM
Sorry Marissa. I hate to repeat myself too much for y'alls sake. Don't want to get annoying. I posted in the horse care forum. Anyway, Jelly has a mystery swollen leg. since the saturday before Christmas! It's his back left leg, and there's a knot right below his hock that is holding heat. Long story but the vet should be coming out today. My trainer here wouldn't let me call the vet before because she swore to me it was a hematoma and I didn't need to spend my money on a vet. BUT, a week and five days later, it's still swollen and still warm, so nearly in tears yesterday I convinced my trainer to call the vet. He's sound and happy. Seems to be fine, but his leg isn't. We'll see. I'll keep you guys posted. Hopefully Ill have some happy news tonight.

fingers crossed for you!!

My happy news is that Jelly's leg is ok. Nothing serious. Just another week off and lots of wrapping.
When the vet left the other day I was so relieved that I went to the tack store and bought $200 worth of stuff that I always wanted but felt too guilty to spend the money on. OOOHHH! I found the EVENT GROOMS HANDBOOK and it's AWESOME!!!!!!!! Thanks deltawave! I could not put it down. I've already read it cover to cover twice and I'm working through it with a highlighter this time. It's great!

Hello, Everyone out there!!
It's me, your friend the Great Warrior Volunteer. This thread has always been about Happy News. I hope it has encouraged and supported folks out there in Eventing Land, wherever they are, whatever they do.
Without being boring, I would like to ask all of you to send me your happy thoughts today. I really need the support of my riders, horses and other folks now.
Hope you are planning for the New Eventing Season, or planning an Event this weekend.
hug your horse and ride proud!
Jan. 4, 2005, 07:35 AM
Kind of hard to find happy news in our second straight day of rain, but... at least it's not snow, right?!?!
It's looking like I won't have to do the schedule for our schooling HT this weekend (postponed from last weekend because of rain)... I suppose that's happy news....
Did I mention it's raining? How annoying to have rain in the desert!
But we have so many good days to ride, I guess I can't begrudge the flowers a bit of rain. And I'm betting this spring will be absolutely gorgeous.
Jan. 4, 2005, 07:35 AM
What did I miss?! Why is our Great Warrior Volunteer Sad?! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Someone must do something! What's up, BarbaraG?
I do have some happy news for you today. I think I am going to start showing soon! January 22. That's really soon... Poplar is doing a 3-phase schooling show that weekend. I don't know if we're really ready...Our jumping trainer has us jumping single fences in lessons, she says Jelly is not ready to jump a full course yet (Even though he has jumped clean at BN and N in competition...go figure) but I'm going to tell her that we need to be clearing 2'11" by the 22nd so that we can run Novice at my FIRST 3-phase ever! Yay! I'm nervous already (literally) but we're gonna work hard and expect nothing and go into this with smiles and a good attitude. If that's all we have that day, it should still be fun.

I just bought a Jeffries Saddle and it's amazing. Just changed my colors and they're SOOO Cute on my horse. My dressage has improved DRASTICALLY! My dad's going to buy me a horse in a year. I get to start eventing this summer. I also get to start schooling XC. I get to do my D-3 rating this spring for USPC, and my C-1 before it gets too cold for XC next winter. YAY!
Jan. 5, 2005, 11:59 AM
1) Had a wonderful ride on Frankie last night. She's only been ridden for about 10 minutes in the last month due to one thing or another. She is the epitome of "want to curl up in your lap" but she's also very TBish and often times very much a baby (she's 5 this year). She is learning so quickly! We had moments approaching nice carriage (moments only, but I'll take anything at this point!) and she even offered to jump one of the ground rails (not a bad thing based on how they were configured). Good thing she's coming along nicely -- I've already signed us up for a clinic in may -- 2 weeks before Mayfest which I hope to take her too!
2) Just heard from the tack shop and they have an offer on my dressage saddle! not quite what I was hoping for but VERY close. would be nice to sell this as my truck is in for repairs (because it wouldn't start) and desperately needs new tires before another storm hits. The $$ was slated to go towards a new jump saddle but I can get that from my tax return -- the truck is more of an immediate need! Keep digits crossed.

I happen to think that the best news for the GWV would be a new orange kitty. Guaranteed to make a day better no matter what!
My good news is that I got on both my OTTB and 3 year old Monday after a month plus off and they were both well behaved little (Ha!) ladies. WTC with no bucks and both made a real effort to please. It felt soooooo good to be back in the saddle. It seems when there is a forced vacation (like one for holidays and guests) that I don't really miss riding. As soon as I get back on, I realize just how bereft I've been.
Looks like we'll be riding in the snow tomorrow!
Jan. 5, 2005, 02:54 PM
Here's to a new orange kitty for the Great Volunteer...sorry for your loss Barbara http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
My happy news is that my back feels better and I am riding again, AND that my little Ottb fruitloop has been behaving very nicely lately!

I received an outa the blue e-mail that is the best news I could get to start out 2005.
I had been shopping for another broodmare but was finding everything I really liked to be way out of my price range. One of the horse owners I contacted just e'd me to offer me an incredibly nice mare-for free! I am so excited I can hardly stand myself-I don't think my husband can either.

It is BEAUTIFUL here today.http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
In the 40s, no wind, sunny--pretty nice for NE Ohio in January!
Had 3 great rides; one was just a trail ride on my retired mare (who snorted & pranced thru half the woods http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif).
Looking ahead excitedly to my event season...already making some short & long-term goals. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Jan. 9, 2005, 07:27 PM
Beautiful here, today, too - a brief sunny respite from the rain, which is supposed to be back tomorrow or Tuesday...
After a nice dressage ride and a fun time watching Prozac Pony & his munchkin in a BN jumping lesson, I went... shopping!! (RAR never goes shopping. For clothes, anyway.) One of our local tack stores was having a clearance sale.
I got 2 saddle pads @ $15, a show shirt @ $30, and a wool (RJ Classics) show coat @ $35!!! I felt like such a hunter princess when I realized that the gold piping on the shirt collar would match Mr. Blondie ;-)
Jan. 9, 2005, 08:04 PM
Great stuff, RAR!
Let's see...I have a new farrier who is GREAT (thanks to hhfarm! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) and we had pretty nice weather here today, too. Mid-40's and SUN! (We hadn't seen the sun in weeks...I thought maybe it burned out http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)
In continuance of our "narrow" schooling, today my boy jumped a 2-stride, 2 barrels wide to 1 barrel! Without even thinking about trying to get out of it! It was excellent, I'm so proud of us.

Well, classes started back up tuesday, so that kinda sucks. My barn owner put BULLS in my horse's pasture while we were away for christmas and I now have NO WHERE for my horse to be turned out even though I PAY for a pasture... That really sucks.
BUT, despite all that frustration, it is in the 70's here during the day and beautiful (knock on wood). The good weather is putting me in a GREAT mood and I am cruising around with a smile (except when I think about my poor pon-pon rotting away in his stall all day...).
Life is good!
Jan. 12, 2005, 03:00 PM

Jan. 13, 2005, 06:28 AM
Mr. Blondie has a new saddle! I knew that Prozac Pony's saddle (my beloved Courbette Galant) was too wide for Mr. Blondie, but I wanted to wait until he muscled up a bit to see if perhaps the saddle could be reflocked to fit him. So we've been making do with an assortment of pads. Finally, it was time. The saddle fitter came and delivered the sad news that re-flocking the Courbette was not going to be the answer.
So I started the Great Saddle Search. With the rains finally (knock wood) in abeyance for a while, we set up an appointment for yesterday afternoon. I tried an HDR Bristol, a Bates Caprilli, and an Amerigo Deep Jump. I liked them all, but decided I liked the Bristol best, even though the leather was quite a bit lighter than I prefer. I knew it would darken some, but I wasn't prepared for the deep, rich chestnut that developed with conditioning. I LOFF IT!
And now, it's going to be time for a new bridle to match ;-)
And more Happy News - the saddle fitter re-flocked the back of my Wintec dressage saddle with CAIR panels (I didn't even know that could be done), adjusting the balance just a bit forward. Maybe now it will be easier to sit the way my trainer wants me to sit...
[Edited to add pre- and post-conditioning photos.]

2 bits of good/happy news.
1- my dressage saddle sold!! Happy happy!! Had it on consignment at the local tack shop. I liked it and it seemed to fit ok (although I never had it on Frankie), but *I* didn't fit it anymore. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I should be getting a check in a week. The original plan was to use the funds from old dressage saddle to buy new jumping saddle (since it doesn't fit Char)... then sell current jump saddle and buy new dressage saddle. Between Char going into retirment and the saddle not fitting too bad on Frankie AND my desperate desire to pay off some bills, there will be no new saddles in my immediate future. But that's ok!
2- had another really good ride on Frankie last night. She's coming along really well. I'm so anxious to jump her! I think it would be best to wait just a tad longer to get some steering issues worked on better, but she's not hesitating at any poles and is doing so well! Not bad for the $500 pony who never won at the track. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sorry about replying so late barbaraG, the 2-phase is at Evenstride Farm In Byfield, MA. Theire website is Evenstride Farm (http://evenstrideltd.com)
The dates aren't up for the 2005 schedule yet, I put an email to them sometime last week, but I haven't heard back from them yet. They have done the 2-phases for years.....I went in 2000 and 2001.
As far as happy news goes for NH...there isn't much up here......very cold this week. However, my barn owner is going to be in Mexico for 12 days starting on Friday, so I get to barn sit 19 horses! That will be fun. I guess the good news about that is I get to live at their house on the property and I get to see my horse mulitiple times a day!
Thought of actually getting ready to sign up for an event keep me going through this cold!

I got to ride some sale horses today and I felt really great. For the first time I think I POSITIVELY influenced a greenie down a line. I kept my leg on, my knee not pincing, and I kept him steady and adjusted his stride a ton. It was GREAT. I felt balanced and safe over the fences. It was cold today, and the horse was really playing around when i got on (spooking at stuff, prancing, tossing his head) and I didn't get freaked out. I stayed soft and relaxed and got him to focus-and even got him to round and come under himself. I rode a hot mare too and stayed relaxed and steady.
This is such a huge step for me-I was a real timid rider and NO confidence, and now I'm starting to think maybe I'm not so bad http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I got off of Jelly yesterday and burst into tears because I haven't been able to make him act right in a couple of weeks now. I was SO very discouraged and knew it was all me (that does very little for your confidence). But today, with my trainer there, I was able to communicate to him really well, he listened to me, and we got a lot accomplished!
I've decided my problems with him come from my "mental case" personality. haha. When my trainer is there telling me "it's ok for him to do that, just open your hip angle, etc, etc, etc" I have NO PROBLEM making him do well. BUT, when I ride alone, when he acts up I try to communicate to him, and when it doesn't work right off, I get frustrated and think I'm not doing it right (when actually he just needs a few more strides to figure it out) and stop before I get upset with him (because he does not do well with aggressive people. No snatching or yelling at him...bad..) So anyway, I've figured out my problem and I'm ready to work on it.
OOOOH! and there's a good possibility that I will get to move to my trainer's barn here really soon! I could never actually afford it in any lifetime, but she is going to work out a deal with me to work in xchange for board! YAY!!! Hopefully that will work out! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif And she says we should be ready to make an appearance at Poplar in Feb. can't wait!!!

Oh, I have some awsome news!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
My mare (bought in August of 04') was diagnosed with EPM the end of October.(thankfully a very mild case) Finally, 8 vet visits later, 5 tubes of marquis, over $1500 in bills, and lots of rehabbing, I have been given the OK to start riding her!!! I have set the date for Feb 1, 2005 and I cant wait!!
Jan. 20, 2005, 12:38 PM
That is very, very, VERY Happy News indeed!
Jan. 20, 2005, 02:46 PM
Happy news for today is that I'm goin xc schooling on saturday! hehe. I'm excited. I'm taking Jelly to the 3 phase at poplar to look around and soak in all of the sights, then after the last right we're going to do a nice easy schooling.
Since I jump judge at most of poplar's HTs, I have course maps from all of their shows from last year. I've been studying those novice maps so hard, looking at which fences they are, how often they use the bank/coop combo as an up vs. as a down, etc. I know that course like the back of my hand from being there so many times (though I've only ridden on it once http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif). Anyway, I'm excited. I've had this schooling trip planned out for some time. I know exactly which fences I'm going to jump and everything. Yay! Hopefully all will go well. Can't wait!
Jan. 20, 2005, 03:24 PM
I have happy news. My cute little CANTER mare is getting delivered a day early b/c of the snow, so YAY, I get extra time to make friends with her before the storm comes!!!!!!!
My son's asthma is under control too, so that's more good news!

Had a GREAT x-c lesson today, shared with Prozac Pony and his Favorite Little Munchkin (FLM). PP and FLM are doing their FIRST Beginner Novice schooling HT this Sunday. (YAAAAAYYY!!!) They'll be in the Jr BN division while Mr. Blondie and I are doing the Sr BN.
All four of us had an awesome time today, even though I got lost on the way from the house to the novice log... only took about 5-6 passes by it before I finally found the approach, and even then, I messed it up and tried to take it at an angle, and we had a runout. The trainer said, "He probably didn't believe you finally wanted to do it." And she was probably right ;-)
But except for that glitch, and for when FLM misunderstood which upbank she was supposed to do after the ditch and got a little stranded on course, everything went nicely.
It's so much fun to watch the two of them work together, even when I notice that he doesn't run out at the sandbox with her like he used to do with me... sigh...
So we'll have a ear cocked in an easterly direction on Sunday, listening for great whoops of encouragement from the GWV.

I have found a job!! so I can continue to support all my rescues (almost!) singlehandedly!
And, I saw a ROBIN!!!
Jan. 21, 2005, 02:17 PM
I rode Jelly today for the first time since our lesson on wednesday (gave him yesterday off) and he was WONDERFUL! He has not been good for me at home for a MONTH. I've been having real confidence issues, and after wednesday's lesson I was feeling much more confident about my riding. So when I got on today I was completely relaxed and he was perfect!!! I SMILED the whole time I rode.
HE EVEN CANTERED!!!!! I'm excited! I hope I've gotten over my "I suck" syndrome. I can do it!
Poplar and XC tomorrow! maybe i'll have more good news tomorrow night!

Jan. 23, 2005, 09:37 AM
I've got happy news! As you all know I took Jelly to Poplar yesterday. His last owner told me that he completely SPAZZED at his first show (I saw the rearing in the stadium round to prove it) and that he was a freak at his second show, but a little better. So, this was the first time I've taken him to a show, and I thought it would be good to get a little more of that freakishness out of him before actually entering any shows.
So, we went, and aside from being obviously interested and walking with a little march to his step, he was a DREAM!!! I was shocked! I handwalked him all over the show grounds, and let him graze in the SJ warmup area. He was so good that I decided to tack him up and we rode in the warmup for SJ and he was PERFECT!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Prelim was doing their SJ rounds, so the warmup fences were a bit above our heads at this point. But, there was a really big crossrail (big for a xrail if you know what I mean...) that we jumped several times and he did it like a gentleman!
So I turned in my entry for the Poplar 3-phase on Feb. 19. I'm excited! We didnt' get to xc school yesterday b/c the fog was so thick they even cancelled the xc part of the competition. But that's ok. I think we're going to go next weekend instead.
Jan. 23, 2005, 07:34 PM
Glad to hear you are ok. I would take it easy for a bit. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Jan. 23, 2005, 08:32 PM
Mr. Blondie and I finished 2nd (by one point) in the Sr BN division at our schooing HT today. Finished on our dressage score of 36.5; came in clean on x-c at 4:10, with an optimum time of 4:11. We got all 6s and 7s in dressage EXCEPT for our free walk :-( I pushed a little too much at the beginning, and he jigged just the tiniest bit. Unfortunately, the judge was paying attention, so we got a 4 on that movement.
If...if...if... only I had not made that mistake in the walk, and we had gotten a 6 or 7, we would have won. So close, yet so far...
But we had a decent dressage score, and went double clear in both jumping phases (even though x-c was a bit of a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at times ;-)
But WAIT! There's MORE!!!
The even HAPPIER NEWS is that Prozac Pony and his Favorite Little Munchkin, at their first HT EVER (and first dressage test ever - they've only done hunter/jumper rounds before) finished on their dressage score, which was enough to move them up into FIRST (out of 12) in the Jr BN division!!!!
And it was sunny and lovely today. Not too hot, with a nice breeze now and then. Just a wonderful day for a horse show.

More snow! Any Happy Horse News out there!??
Jan. 26, 2005, 04:11 AM
Returned Saturday morning from two weeks in Mexico!! Holy schnikes!! Basically - off the plane at noon, home to warm up the plow trucks, and off into the night we went. Went and plowed out a few friends' barns, drove some water buckets around....
Never seen a great tan fade so fast!
I did have a great beach ride down there, did some deep research before I left and hooked up with a friend of a friend who owns an estate outside of Cancun....she had the most beautiful farm and we had SO MUCH FUN! Swam in the ocean with "my" Quarter Horse (Bongo!). Watched an incredible sunset from the deck off of her tack room. We should all have decks on our barns looking over the ocean!!
Jan. 26, 2005, 06:08 AM
This is slightly OT, but my good news is that Mr. Frugal has decided we should buy a tractor-mounted snowblower.
Therefore, I can predict with some assurance that the snow will stop as soon as it is delivered, and there will be no snow for at least two years.
Jan. 26, 2005, 07:55 AM
The 10 y.o. greenie OTTB that I'm leasing right now is jumping 2'6" happily and without effort. His dressage is improving everyday, can now canter half-way around the ring without leaning on me!! More importantly, he is an absolutley lovable dork named Mikey and lives for Mrs. Pasture's Horse Cookies.
And, my 24 y.o. mare (Novice packer, gonna carry a BNYR in the spring) gained her winter weight back and is feeling great (caught her rolling in the snow as I walked up to the barn yesterday!), and her back/hock stiffness is almost gone!
AND, it's supposed to be 45 degrees here today!! WooHoo! A heat wave for 24 hours!
Spring is right around the corner!!!
Jan. 26, 2005, 11:46 AM
My happy news is that the boyfriend has decided that he will consider moving where *I* would like to move, instead of forcing me to live somewhere I've never been before (but have heard that its fabulous...AZ?)
I'll take a compromise anyday! I have also started the search for a new horse, even though I have a few months...I'm sure I will need that long anyway! I will not be selling Anndee, she will just be getting a new friend to boss around.
Those with snow on the ground, hang in there...Jan. is already over!

Jan. 27, 2005, 06:19 AM
I had a good lesson on Jello yesterday. He was very fresh and strong, but very good and he learned a lot about where to put his feet through a combination. He got pretty smart about it by the end.
We're going to try the xc schooling thing again this weekend. Maybe we'll actually get to ride some fences this time.
Entries are in for the Feb. poplar show AND the March Horse Trials at Jumping Branch. Can't wait!

I got to gallop in the snow yesterday! And it was 32 degrees!
I also jumped in the snow. I haven't jumped in 2 1/2 months.
My BO is coming back tomorrow so I won't have to be in charge anymore of all the horses! I mean I like being in charge......but after 12 days the responsibilty gets to be exhausting!
That's all for today!

My happy news for today is that I am in a good mood. No reason really. My horse was so bad this weekend, but it really changed my perspective and motivated me to ride better. So I am very excited about our next ride (tomorrow if it's not raining).
And I think I changed my sig line... it makes me laugh. That's one reason I'm smiling right now. That line makes me laugh out loud no matter the circumstances. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
Jan. 31, 2005, 02:54 PM
My happy news is while my 5 year old mare is recouping from an illness, I had the time this weekend to start my now 3 year old boy back into work. I haven't really done anything with Seeker in several months. He had some good ground work last fall and was backed a few times. He's had the winter off. I lunged him and he was so good I thought I would get on him. He was great. Stood like a champ and walked off quietly. There really isn't any steering yet but that will come. I even trotted him around the ring a few times and he didn't even try to buck me off! One of the barn kitties ran in front of him and he didn't care. I then stopped and hung out at the gate on him talking to one of the other boarders. One of the barn kitties (same one that ran in front of him) climbed up the wall of the indoor into the rafters right above his head--he never flinched. I think someone forgot to tell him he's a TB baby!! Looks like I've got one with a good brain--it will be fun seeing what he turns out to be!
Jan. 31, 2005, 07:14 PM
My BO was released from the hospital today, after an accident with her greenie yesterday afternoon. He was doing so well she forgot who she was riding (this is a horse that's not even cantering under saddle yet) and kicked a little too hard. He took off bucking and she came off. She unfortunately has a broken thumb and a shoulder separation, but last night they thought she might have broken her pelvis. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Fortunately the CT they did today did not show a fracture; she's just very, very bruised and can hardly walk. But she's home now, and will be OK!
I also had a nice dressage lesson on my boy yesterday...we started counter-canter! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
And it's supposed to be almost 40 tomorrow, and 50 by the weekend! Woo hoo!!
Feb. 1, 2005, 11:18 AM
I rode Simon today for the first time since June! Simon is my upper level horse who had a mystery lameness that Rood & Riddle couldn't find. They prescribed 6 months of turn out that I extended to 8 months because of weather.
He seemed perfectly happy today and appears sound on the longe. I am optimistic.

My happy news.... It is 32 degrees today. Warmer than it has been in MONTHS, and I can see a little grass by my dorm. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
The best news... It is supposed to be like this all week. I can hardly wait to ride. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Feb. 2, 2005, 05:48 PM
Well, It has POURED down rain all day! My lesson got rained out for the week http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif but Jelly sure did enjoy his day playing in the rain http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
My trainer did call me this morning though, and guess what! I'm moving Jelly to a new barn! Yay! My trainer offered me a job at her barn and is going to give me board in return. I'll be sorta the Barn Manager for the barn. I'll just be in charge of the trainer's personal barn, so it's just 9 stalls and 9 horses to be in charge of. But it's still exciting. Just down the driveway from "my" barn is a huge 30 or 40 stall barn full of expensive hunter and jumper horses, but I don't have to mess with them. I get a stall for Jelly in the "private" barn with the trainer's horses. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I'll be saving SO MUCH MONEY it's not even funny!
I am kinda sad that I'm leaving my little barn. (3 stalls, 4 horses... you get the picture...) Before I got out there it was a shack on a piece of fenced property, and now it looks really great (inside atleast). My best friend is out there, and I broke the news to her tonight. She's not happy about me leaving. But I'm excited about the opportunity.
Not only am I saving $, and I'll get to ride SUPERVISED every day, but I get to practice my barn management skills on a small group of horses that won't die if I mess up a little. My ultimate dream is to be a barn manager, and I'm really working towards it, so this will be a really fun experience!!!!!
Feb. 2, 2005, 07:17 PM
this is great news for everyone!
I might get to ride this sunday-at a show no less!!! I won't be showing, but I LOVE being in that atmosphere when I'm on a horse and I don't get to do that too too often. Plus, it will be good to see this horse outside his element to see how he is in new situations.
Feb. 3, 2005, 03:56 AM
My happy news...(bear with me, it's all connected!)...
SO is feeling back to his normal self after all testing, etc. and what the docs are attributing to IBS (not great, but it's A diagnosis anyways!). This means he is working on our investment property again, which means that inspections are very soon. Inspections go well, we insulate and sheet rock, and put it on the market and/or get it rented.
Once it has made us money (or is making us money = rented!), CluesGirl may begin search for home with barn...and of course, horse to put in barn!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
AND it is going above freezing for the 3rd day in a row today!
Great news, Foxy!!!
Feb. 5, 2005, 06:42 AM
I rode yesterday, for the first time in five months!!! The weather is fantastic, and I'm stiff as two planks! And, I get to ride again today!
It's time to get those two horses ready for eventing this year! (and me, too!) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Feb. 7, 2005, 03:41 PM
Snow is melting http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. I cantered my 3 year (only 3rd time on his back) and he didn't buck me off http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Rode outside for the first time in what seems like forever this weekend! Hopefully the snow will keep melting and I can get my young horse out on some trails! Spring can not get here quick enough!
Feb. 7, 2005, 05:53 PM
well, We got Jelly all moved in at the new barn yesterday. He seems to be adapting to everything well. It's a much more "fast-paced" barn compared to where he's been atleast the past few years, so he's very alert and wide-eyed about it all right now, but not overwhelmed. He's being a brave little toaster http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
The move for me has been much more stressful than for him http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif It is truly back-breaking work to strip those long-neglected stalls. I worked out there after class for about 2 1/2 hours and got 2 stalls stripped and rebedded and all of the water buckets cleaned. I'll go back at 6:00 in the morning and put in another couple of hours, hoping to get atleast 2 more stalls stripped before my 8:00 Microbiology test.... (I'm supposed to be studying right now, aren't I?...)
All that work may sound like a complaint (and if you felt how knotted my muscles were, you'd certainly think so) but it's not. This is in the Happy News forum for a reason. I love working in the barn, and while I probably should have been studying for my Micro test, or doing my Animal Breeding homework, I think I smiled the whole time I worked today (I cried a little too, but I think that was just the ammonia smell from under those nasty floors... no more though! I took care of that!). http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
So all is well here. Life is good, and Jelly's back (hopefully) is feeling better. I haven't ridden him since his shoes were finished this weekend, but he has been playing in the pasture lately more than ever and seems extra happy, so I'm hoping that's why.
Feb. 8, 2005, 12:34 PM
This is technically a day late...but hey, its still VERY happy news! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
...After a very big OK from the vet and a few other knowledgable people (they all think she looks fantastic!) I got to ride my EPM mare yesterday. The first time in over 3 months! It was an amazing feeling to just SIT on her. I was grinning from ear-to-ear. We did lots of walking and even a big 20m circle at the trot. She felt like a million bucks, even was reaching into the bit a little! Im so excited! My dressage instructor will be coming out every weekend to pop on her and run her through some easy exercises (start to get her to use herself again)
before long, she will be back up and running!

My happy news for the day is that I rode a horse for the first time since Labor Day weekend, 1998!!! To make it even better, I didn't totally suck! I actually was able to keep my own position, and my horse worked in the bridle, did leg yields, shoulders-in, etc. But man, am I whooped... However, to make it even BETTER...I was asked by the upper level event rider at the barn where I rode today (bless her heart for letting me 'have some fun on one of her horses today) asked me if I'd like to ride 1 or 2 of them on a regular basis (3-4 days a week). Well....hell yes! I ride again Friday. Now, if I could just figure out how to be less sore tomorrow morning...

Shame on all of you! I should never have to venture to page 2 to find the Happy News thread!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I guess I'm as guilty as any.
It was a beautiful day in Auburn today! I got to ride Jelly today on my own. This is huge, b/c I haven't gotten to ride him outside of a lesson in a couple of weeks! (awful I know...) But he was actually really good! There was a H/J girl schooling in the ring at the same time and RAN OVER us 3 times (literally ran over us...I'm glad I put jelly's boots on or his legs would be shredded to all hell) and he was still an ANGEL! He even Cantered!!! Ok, it wasn't until landing from a jump, but he landed in a nice canter, so I let him go on with it and we went nicely around the ring (with a very solid bridge rein supported by a thumb on the withers) several times! We're still working on cantering when ASKED...but maybe that will come before our show this weekend... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
And i'm trying out a new saddle. It's a new Stubben! I love riding in it! I used it today for the first time. I didn't know if I would like it b/c it has no knee rolls and I just knew I would fly right up to his ears, but apparently my legs are better than I thought b/c I never even noticed. It was so much easier to jump in it than my cheapo (but MAJOR comfortable) AP saddle that I have. i don't know, however, how I expect to pay for this new saddle AND all of my shows for the summer. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif Just a minor detail though. haha.
Oh! and I got an A on my Physics test, a B on my Animal Nutrition test, and a high C on my Microbiology test! (I'm THRILLED about all of them... even the C. That was a HECK of a micro test)

Tra-la-la! I finally have some happy news.
I took my home-bred 3 1/2 yo filly to the beach for the first time today and she was a STAR! She walked flat-footed on a loose rein, trotted along politely when asked, and went in and out of the water. She was very curious, of course, staring at the strange (Mom, that one has SPOTS!) horses we encountered and the sand dunes and she had to be convinced that the washed up weeds weren't edible, but I am very, very proud of her. She went from being glued to a barn buddy who came along to being independent of him in just a few minutes. I think she's going to make a great eventer.
Now if I could just sell a couple from my herd, I'd be really happy.
Feb. 16, 2005, 10:54 AM
My happy news is that my new Effinghams I bought off eBay came today...and I think they will actually fit! (I have to leave for work in 10 minutes and I don't have a bootjack here at home so I was afraid to really try them on...I can imagine getting to work and trying to talk someone into pulling them off for me!) But as soon as I have access to the proper equipment, I'll be wearing them! At least I will have one pair of boots that fits by show season. I may be doing the bathtub thing, though, to get them broken in.
Plus, now I can walk around going, "Where's my Effing boots?!" http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I got a shoe back on the dippy TB!!! Was so pleased as my farrier's mother in law passed away on the weekend and I figured I would be losing a week of work. Plus I'm going to try something completely different and dippy TB is going on a CTR this weekend (nothing else on). So picture us camping out in the back of beyond, eating our beans and grits (what do CTR people eat????) and singing Home on the Range...or something. Dippy TB will sing the harmonies...

I'm repeating this happy news on behalf of my cute as snot shelter rescue, Louie (his picture is in my photo gallery at the link below) who traveled to Pine Top H.T. this past Saturday for his 1st horse trial experience...
Louie says, "For the very first time in my life, my mom took me to a farm. Now, this just wasn't ANY farm, there was this thing called a horse trial going on, and it was FANTASTIC! Seriously, we got out of the car, and my nose started to go nuts! There was just so much chit to smell, I wasn't sure what to do first. That must've made me a little disobediant, because mom put my Gentle Leader collar on in order for me to listen to her.
Well, let me tell ya', even though I had to wear that collar, I was in heaven. We went on a course walk, and a GIANT golden retriever named Dillon (he belongs to a event lady named Lynn) came with us. We smelled, and sniffed each other, and had a ball walking together. We rolled in the dry Georgia grass, and then, WOO HOO, we found some cow manure. Talk about some sweet smellin' stuff! I rolled, and rolled, and rolled in it. Dang, I smelled FINE! I can't believe the ladies didn't come running after me from that point on. Then, to mush it all into my fur, we saw a pond. Wheeee! In we go, slosh around, get a drink, get out, shake, go back in for more. Even had some green moss stuck to me.
After we walked the course, I kept seeing all these big dogs going all over the place. I'm not sure where they breed these big dogs, but they're big enough to carry people like my mom. The magnificent thing about these giant dogs, is their poo. Now, I thought rolling in the cow dung was the cat's meow, but those sweet green road apples are DEEEEEElicious. I can't wait to go back to that hors' d'ouvres stand!
I jumped over some jumps, crawled under fences, stuck my head in a ground hog hole, and laid under a stinky diesel pick up truck, so I could get some shade. I can't remember a time when I had so much fun. I wish my old buddy Edgar, from the pound, could have been there with me. He certainly would have appreciated all the sights and smells.
I was so zonked after my day that I fell fast asleep on the way home. As soon as the day was over, I wasn't able to relish the smells of the day for much longer, because mom chucked me in the tub for a scrub a dub dub. It's alright, because I fell asleep for the rest of the night, and had visions of the next horse trial I can go to. From what I hear, it's in about 2 weeks! I can't wait."

All this happy news made me have to join in!
I'm in my 2 1/2 year of law school (I graduate in December) and had my bench trial for my litigation skills class today.
And though I was nervous as hell, it went great! Maybe I will actually be a lawyer when I grow up!
And, in 2 weeks, I get to go to Kentucky for Spring Break and see my horse!!

I had a great ride on my CANTER OTTB today. For the first time, she really gave me a glimpse of what she'll become if I don't mess her up too much. We may not be ready for UNH and King Oak this year, Barbara, but they are our goals.
I think you should show us all the awards you've picked out!
Feb. 26, 2005, 02:20 PM
Hey, I have happy news today! The son of Connor's full brother (who was euthanized in 2003) just won all of his classes (2', hunters, horses and ponies combined) and the championship at his very first show!
Feb. 26, 2005, 03:17 PM
Gwen and I JUMPED today, for the first time since October 2nd, when I fell off my other horse and mangled my knee. After 3.5 months I was good to go, but then Gwennie got an abscess...
Well, today the planets aligned: nice day, enough time, shoes on the horse, both sound, etc. etc. and we had a great time! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif Gwen was her usual "I-haven't-jumped-for-a-while-shall-we-go-faster?" self and it was AWESOME to feel her enjoying herself like that. Every year I ask myself if she's getting tired of her job, and every year she answers me with a resounding "NO WAY!" http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I got a new horse, finally!
and I might get to go foxhunting for the first time next month http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Feb. 26, 2005, 05:21 PM
Well, I haven't had any happy news in a while as it's been a tough couple of weeks. But things are looking up now.
It's starting to get warmer, and we've had some really pretty days.
I got a wild hair tonight and body clipped Jelly. wasn't planning on doing it at all, but it looks pretty good. I'm impressed. No more red mud caked pony!
We're doing a Hunter show next saturday, XC schooling on Sunday and Jumping Branch the next weekend!!! I'm excited, but I dont' know how ready we are. I just wish we could FINISH. Seriously, that's ALL I want. I would be SO PROUD of both of us if we finished all 3 phases without having to ask permission to ride. I'm working really hard on him though, so hopefully we'll make a decent performance.
Feb. 27, 2005, 05:27 AM
I absolutely LOVE my new project horse!! He's fabulous, I wish I could keep him, but, alas, I nust put him up for sale. (need to keep paying those bills, don'tcha know!)
he has a very nice trot, and a canter to die for! He cover ground, he can JUMP, and he's a nice ammy hunter type of horse, but I think he could also do the jumpers. He has TONS of scope!! I'm in love!
Feb. 27, 2005, 04:02 PM
Doesn't get much better than this...
I took 4 girls (pre-teens & teens) from our barn on a trail/cross country outing today. The sky was blue, the air was clean, the clouds were white & puffy, the grass was green, the cacti were prickly... and we had a BLAST! An hour and a half of walk/trot/canter (ok, and a bit of gallop here & there, plus any number of leaps over little ditches, and the odd buck or two) out in the open in the Tonto National Forest.
Attached is a photo of us returning to the trailers, where a little picnic lunch was awaiting us, along with two of the mothers.
Life was good today.
Feb. 27, 2005, 04:41 PM
I had a wonderful ride at the park today! We went to Miami Whitewater Forest, which is a county park about 10 minutes from our barn that has an 8-mile loop horse trail. (This is the same place I managed to flip him at http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif about 5-6 years ago, so he has in the past been understandably nervous there.) It was sunny and in the low 40s. I wore my lovely new Tipperary vest that I received last week (just in case http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) but he was exceedingly well behaved. He was a little nervous about the first bridge we had to cross, but happily went over it after he saw a guy on a crazy-looking recumbent bike go across it http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif (did I mention that the horse trail parallels a paved hike/bike trail, so there were plenty of people on foot, on bikes, and rollerblades, as well as with dogs?) He was also quite suspicious of the park benches. But we trotted and cantered and he was excellent! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

RAR, from snowy upstate New York, I'm SO JEALOUS of your beautiful day. That looks like so much fun! Why, oh why, do I live in the snowy north????
Feb. 27, 2005, 04:52 PM
I took the OTTB red ripper to a competitive trail ride and had a blast. We did a lovely ride through forest on fairly sandy soft footing and had some wonderful canters, which was a small miracle in itself, as the red ripper was accompanied by his friend, a similar red OTTB who has had some, shall we say, behavioural issues not entirely unrelated to unprovoked rider dumping. Anyway I digress. Red ripper had a blast, vetted sound at the end, which means, hooray, we can start jumping again!!!! Completely makes up for having to buy a second new tyre for the lorry in two weeks and then smashing all the wing mirrors on the passenger side at $90 each (I broke 3 of the suckers). But I'm learning to love pot noodles again (hellooo student lifestyle), and completely stoked that the red ripper is returning to rideability.
Feb. 27, 2005, 06:34 PM
I took my technically now three year old TB Seeker on a trailer ride to visit a friend's farm for a low key outing. He got on the trailer by himself and travelled well. While it wasn't exactly warm (maybe in the low to mid 30s) it was sunny and not too windy. So my friend hopped on a quiet experienced 4 year old and we took the two youngsters out for a short hack down the roads. It was Seeker's first hack xc and he was wonderful. Very brave and well behaved. Walked and trotted like a champ. Now I have Spring fever badly and am not looking forward to the coming snow storm tomorrow!! Hopefully the upcoming ugly week of weather will be it and the rest of March will be nice!!

Y'all aren't nice! All this trail-riding and going to shows and such... I'm stuck in icky (nothern) Illinois waiting for the two inches of snow to fall tonight. JOY!
I jumped my mare today. She was AMAZING. She's done the 4' jumpers and such but she hasn't competed for a few years. She's quite out of shape and muscle but in the past two-ish months I've had her she's starting to look good! We trotted up to a 3'6" vertical and she didn't even miss a beat. We did a lot of challenging lines. We even jumped skinnies and corners (preparing for a clinic! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) on the first try.
Lauren never stops to amazing me.
OH YES!!!!! I almost forgot. I'm going to visit my pony (if y'all know... he's the spotted pony that I ran training but sold since I grew and he didn't) over my spring break... and I get to ride him again, I'm WAY too excited! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Goodymar--if it makes you feel better--it doesn't look like I will get out on another trail ride very soon. The snow is falling--guess we are expected to get about a 5-12 inches. That's a lot of snow for us and another storm is coming in on the weekend. I am SOOOOO ready for Spring too. Congrats on your mare--she sounds like a blast!
