I test for Lyme twice a year, whether they need it or not. If I am lucky, we can get thru the summer without a spike, but ya, the Lyme demons can hide and come back any old time. I generally first notice it because of a change in attitude. That said, it also shows up in mysterious lamenesses which move around from leg to back to leg to stiff neck...At this point, pretty much anything where the boys ADR (ain't doin right) gets looked at as Lyme. So Mike while is at 40,000, his barn mate, Char, is at 600. 600 is where he's been since he first got it 2 years ago. And, don't think the ticks are 'gone for the winter'- our cats come in with ticks almost every day....Oh, I forgot, this is the GOOD NEWS thread! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Music tends to run a "high end of normal" all the time, so I don't even bother to test anymore- just observe. But an attitude change, combined with losing weight is enough of a trigger for me.

I also know people who give a treatment of doxy once or twice a year- regardless of symptoms.

First schooling HT of the new year on Sunday - we'll be going BN again. Had a good x-c lesson yesterday. So many of the fences that used to look HUGE now look quite reasonable after jumping Novice in stadium.

This is a Very Good Thing.

And in my lesson yesterday was a woman doing her first major x-c lesson - she's also doing her first BN HT on Sunday. Her mare has been over all those fences before with the trainer, but not with her owner. They were AWESOME!!! The first thing they jumped out back (we had warmed up in the arena) was a course of 9 fences, only one of which she had ever jumped before. Talk about guts... I don't think I'll be competing against her in BN much longer ;-)

Cygnus and I were lucky enough to have snagged an appointment with his chiropractor a couple of weeks ago. WOW!!! Now he is bending properly to the right and his canter is improving daily. Suddenly we have aspirations of top dressage scores.

The other good news is that I ran into an old friend while Christmas shopping - what a delight to see her after a couple of years of everyone being too busy! And her exciting news is that her dog will be appearing at Madison Square Garden at the Westminster Dog Show this winter - too cool for words.

The thrill of (near) victory...
The agony of defeat by 0.4 points!

We placed 2nd today in Sr. Beginner Novice, finishing on our dressage score of 36 (a personal best for us). I actually RODE all three phases (instead of being merely a praying passenger ;-)

The winners finished with 35.6 penalty points - and the rider was a woman who shows her own horse Prelim (quite successfully), riding a young horse trained by a woman who is short-listed for the Canadian Olympic team. Not too shabby, to finish that close to them.

But the points don't really matter - we did a good job in all three phases, and I was comfortable. (In fact, I even took a nap between dressage and stadium, because I was cold, and it was warmer in the car in the sunshine.) Prozac Pony was a Very Good Boy... I loff him dearly.

Yep. Lyme in December. Not new infections, but chronic, low level cases that get worse when the immune system is suppressed by shorter days. Though the lights are supposed to take care of it for Music. But she is losing weight even though I have upped her food, and that is usually an indication that the Lyme has reappeared.

Looks as if I was right, and we nipped it in the bud. She was on doxy for 5 days. (Also had her foot soaked for an abcess- got the shoe back on on Monday.)

I rode her last night (It was COOOLD. I was well bundled up), and she was like a new horse. Not only was she not leaning on me, she was "lighter" and more forward than she has been in months. Ears pricked forward, eager and cheerful. She looks as if she is gaining weight again, but it may be that she is just all "fluffed up" because of the cold.

The short course of doxy has worked for her previous recurrances, so I hope it will "stay fixed" this time.

The initial treatment, though, was a lot longer, double the "normal" time of IV tetracycline.

Finally warming up a little around here... yesterday out hunting (playing hookey from work ;-) it was just loffly.

Jumping lesson tomorrow. Not sure what Sunday will bring, other than I'm trailering a good friend to a dressage clinic.

Prozac Pony was much better yesterday out hunting than the previous two times - and we did more than we've been able to do previously. It just fries his brain at times, though, to be out in the wide open spaces with other horses moving around.

But we persist.

Oh I have happy news, happy happy news!! My oh so fabulous pony, who had a stretched check ligament as a result of a crash on July, had his first real jump school today, and I'm just walking on air.

This is a cool, cool pony - like, if he were 5 or 6 inches taller, he could be in the Team, even with me as a rider pony http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif - and a couple months ago the Vet School gave him the OK to start jumping again, and we've hopped over some cross rails and such.

But today was our first real jump school in 6 months, and OMGIH it was fun. His canter has gotten so good, 96 percent of our jumps were easily from a good spot, and the other 4 percent, he's such a catlike jumper it didn't matter that we were a little short or a little long....

He's smiling, I'm smiling, we're a happy happy pair. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

My happy news is that I'm no longer pregnant! I'm a mother!

My baby girl was born the 5th, weighing in at 6 lbs 15 oz, and is 19.5 inches long. Labor was relatively easy, only 7 hours start to finish (I was induced) and only 45 min or so of pushing.

We are both doing great, and I'm getting less sore by the day. Dr. says by Feb. 1st, I can start long lining my gelding to get him back in shape, but no riding till she clears me at the mid Feb. checkup. It's going to be hard, but don't worry, I'm forcing myself to take it easy.

Been sitting here in a funk because of the achey breaky back, and came up with an amusement. I got one of the girls in my barn (they have been SOOOO fantastic covering for me) to tack up my just-puchased-Nov-1 OTTB. I had done nothing with her, planning to start in January, but then the back thing.

Anyway, took the mare down the street to my friend's indoor and had my dressage coach lunge her instead of working with me. It felt so good to just be around the horses doing something..

...AND she was a delightful surprise. Uneducated to be sure, but very polite once she understood what was expected. LOVELY mover. By the end she was rounding her topline and coming onto the bit. I can't wait to play with her!

Some riders keep a log of their training. Whenever they work with their horses At all...anything....ground work....clinics....regular lessons...schooling shows....Anything...they write it down in their log.

Over time it becomes easier to see the progress you both have made. Sometimes it's hard to see the small things on a day-to-day basis.

Might be worth a try! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I hesitate to flaunt this happy news in the face of all those who are buried under ice and snow, but...

Had a great 2-hour trail ride Saturday with a couple friends. Litte Prozac Pony even managed to keep up with the gigunda Irish Sport Horse when we were cantering, although he was taking about 3 strides for every one of Gulliver's!

Sunday brought some rain-free (although a little chilly - for us) hunting. We even cantered a couple times! (We're just getting into this hunting thang.) And we lasted longer and did more than we've managed thus far.

Yesterday, we had an awesome jumping lesson - 2'11" oxers, which are tiny for many, but great for us.

Dream of warmer days, my friends.

Went out this afternoon with a friend from the barn and her 5yo OTTB for his very first ever trail ride. Prozac Pony was a Most Excellent baby-sitter, showing Starbucks that joggers and cyclists and men walking beagles are not out looking for ponies to eat.

We had a loffly 2-hour amble in the sunshine. Perfect temperatures.

Sigh.

I shall have to try to remember this next summer when it's 115 degrees.

Barbara, you make me laugh (in a good way!). I'm going to have to take your advice and start a diary for myself regarding Dan. After a couple days of fights, he was an absolute ANGEL today. Even though his nose was sticking out, he was round and even better, his circles were round! I think we managed to ride our very first round circle http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I took a lesson in my trainers dressage saddle and I think it made a difference, now off to saddle shop once again...

The trials and tribulations of a true green greenie. Expect happy news from me about every 3 rides or so http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The best news is after about a month and a half of ownership, I am really starting to enjoy having this horse, in both the good and bad times. He is such a silly boy, today he out of the blue fell in love with one of the dogs at the barn, and was just hilarious as he just couldn't keep his eyes of this one particular dog (we have about a hundred dogs at the barn, he's never been interested in any of them).

Thanks for keeping this thread alive.

Well, let's see...

My shoulder feels MUCH better today than I expected it to, after my TWO crashes in our jumping lesson yesterday. And I got to sleep in, because I couldn't go hunting (couldn't even hook up the trailer!)

And a darling young'un from the barn who is currently Between Horses took Prozac Pony for a spin, so I got to watch him trundle her around over low fences in the sunshine, and watch him fly changes for her left and right.

That's great news, Pol! And how're your ribs doing?

My "Happy News" is that I have reached a personal best in the "Depths of Depravity" category:

To console myself about my aching shoulder (two crashes in my Saturday jumping lesson), I have concocted a New Taste Sensation:

1. Take 1 coffee cup.
2. Place 2-3 T of chopped macadamia nut pieces in the bottom.
3. Drizzle real maple syrup over the top until the pieces are well-coated.
4. Scarf down with a spoon.

BarbarG - Thank you for this thread! I have the happest news I've had for a while and you have given me a place to share it!

My barn help is staying, My barn help is staying! Yeah!!!!

I hate to even call her barn help, she is awesome! She was a C level pony clubber and worked for me before she went to college. I have been through a bunch since then. When she graduated and came home four years later, she came back here until she got a "real" job. It's only part time here (well full time times 2 or 3 for me plus dedicated husband time).

She tells me today she is going back to school locally and could she please stay on! Duh! I love her, she is awesome, knowledgable, funny and kind! My horses love her, as does my vet, farrier, hubby and trainer! She rides VERY WELL! Can handle my youngsters! Likes to show and showed one of my mares in the jumpers last summer. She wants to show more for me, but get this, I can't even pay her for it because she wants to stay an ami! (Don't worry, I will find a way to make this work for both of us, like paying for all expenses, paying for lessons and clinics on my horses, anything I can think of that legally protects her status, but that she gets value for).

OMG I am so happy! This arrangment may last two or more years! With 2 - baby greenies, 3 more to start and 2 young mares coming back into work after babies, it could not have happened at a better time.

This young women is the best and brightest future of horsemanship. She so gets it! She shows up in snow and ice, laughs with me as we muck, notices any horse off by the least little bit, fusses and plays with the babies, and is always wanting to learn! I must have done something right somewhere, at some time, because I can't believe how lucky I am to have her. And she's staying! Because she wants to and it works for her (and ME)!

I promise to always appreciate her and to treat her like the true spun gold she is!

AND the sun is shining, melting the ice and I am going to ride for the first time in two weeks!

Life is good!

Ok, caution shameless self promotion: Last night at the LIDCTA awards my horse won his division. Not bad for a horse that originally came from a killer auction. I've had him 3 years and this was the first year we went for points in eventing, or any other category. I loff my horse. I don't know how many were in my division, but when I was competing at one event there were 15 people in my division, so it wasn't a hollow victory.

By the way, LIDCTA is getting together with the Smithtown Hunt trying to have an event maybe at caumsett. Any interested parties please join LIDCTA and do some events!!! LIDCTA is really making an effort to get eventing on Long Island. The dinner was great and I have nothing but good things to say about the organization.

Eventer55: Hooray! Congratulations! What a great partnership you have with your horse. I loved hearing about it.

My good news: the horse I was just getting back to work, who turned up 3-legged lame yesterday, does not have a fracture as we feared. Vet says just soft tissue damage, and she should recover fully. I hope the doc says the same about me on Wednesday! Then back in the saddle.

I DID IT! I DID IT! I got on and rode around! The ring is a combination of ice and snow-on-ice. We went walkie-walkie, shoulder-in, leg yield, turn on haunches, turn on forehand for 1/2 an hour. Mike was perfect. Loves his new bit and was very very happy to finally have something to do. Didn't even try to jump on the cats who were hiding in the ice humps and hollows. I only hurt when I had to lift the saddle up the mile onto his back and when I jumped off. Silly me forgot to slither off and instead did my usual vaulty leap. Oh well, who cares, we're BACK.
Now, let's go see about those boots....
FA, WHAT happened to your pone that you thought she was broken? WHEN will you be back??
edited to add: Mike finishes his 6 weeks of Doxy tomorrow. YAY.

Three bits of happy news, but none to rival Mary, Pol or RAR.

Just have a horse that's getting better (NOT a fracture, just got kicked in the stifle and bruised- Ouch!), I'm getting better (didn't rupture a disc, just tore a tendon at the front and top of my hip), and my computer is back on line (if you have DSL and are having problems connecting, it could be bad filters on the phone lines. They go bad. Who knew? Apparently only one of the 6 techs I talked to at Verizon trying to resolve my problem!).

So, in case you haven't seen my other post, I've had to copmpletely clear my computer and start over, and if you've ever e-mailed me, I've lost your address. So please e-mail me again!

Reminds me of an old Far Side cartoon - a chicken is lying in bed, thermometer in its beak, ice pack on its head, all tucked up under layers of blankets. Another chicken, wearing an apron, is standing by the bed holding a tray with a steaming bowl of something on it.

The standing chicken is saying, "First of all, it's good for you. And second, it's nobody you know."

Well I can think of some happy news for my pony!

Last year ended very well for us. We completed 4 out of 6 events, the two we didn't finish were just stupid mistakes and they don't even bother me anymore, but I did learn from them!

Our plans for spring is to start out at Training level and then do 6ish training level events. My goal for Goody is to then get to the Mayfest 3-day Educational event in spring of next year, so we'll see how it goes!

How about everyone else... how is your year going, how was last year!?

OK, I'll bite and add some happy news!
I do hate riding indoors, but there was no way I was going to waste this winter with my horse (12yo, retired from track at 10 and we just goofed around all last year in between hoof bruises and abscesses).
SO: we have been working hard to get going because I want to event him, and I also have been trying hard to overcome the "maturing" rider fears. (You know, green thoroughbred, 40plus rider, where did my heart and bravado go).
We are ok. I feel like in the last week we are getting there. Now I can finally say my palms have stopped sweating, and I can ride him thru his little "scoots"--the kind where you are on the wall at "A" and in the next blink of an eye, you are in the middle of the ring, hopefully still together with your horse.
I just keep getting up an hour earlier, and going to the farm, and DOING IT, and I feel so much more like my old, brave self. I hope it lasts!
I love this horse--he was a stakes winning turf horse, and is so serious in disposition. I knew him on the track, and was so honored to get him when he retired. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
So, I guess the happy news is, while I don't like riding in an indoor, we'll be better off for it after the spring thaw, and maybe I'll have a baby event horse on my hands come this fall!
Hang in there everyone in the east--spring is on its way!
Barbara

After a winter full of recovering from rotator cuff surgery, dealing with frozen pipes and a frozen leach field, I have good news!

I rode my old mare two-handed today-- I've been neck-reining to save my bad shoulder. And not only did the arm function pretty well, I could tell that the "cowboy time" helped my seat and position overall and helped to quiet BOTH hands!

Now I have the confidence to get back on my young mare after almost three months off--let's hope that occasion makes the happy news thread, too!

Well, I've been riding my mare for about a week, after she had three months off for her back...and we have both survived!

She's happy to be working again. A little *too* happy sometimes (doesn't want to just walk), but she feels better under me than she has in longer than I can remember, honestly. Stronger than I expected, moves forward and carries herself pretty well.

All the $$$$ in vet bills has paid off! I've gotten several compliments on her over the past few days. Someone mentioned today that she's walking with much more freedom and suppleness than even a month ago, which confirmed that it wasn't my imagination! No response to back palpation, I can sit and she doesn't hollow out her back, etc http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I felt her "lock on" to a jump today, and had to remind myself "patience"....it will be months before she's ready to jump again, but we may actually make it to an event this year!

Best of all, I just loff seeing her feel so good, and I can laugh out loud when she rolls, and at her bouncing around in turnout, instead of constantly worrying about her back http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

I am going to jump on Friday afternoon for the first time since.....the day before King Oak! Holy mackerel! That was in September!

No events for me this year between F-I-N-A-L-L-Y picking up my double bachelors in September and really trying like heck to get our house complete in order to get tenants in by June 1st. But you'd better believe that next year I will be back in full swing!

But now.....she has perked up soooo much. She has that gleam back in her eye. Actually, she was feeling so good that when I was going to get on her (just to walk) I let go of her to put on my gloves and she ran away!!! I totally did not expect that the horse that wouldn't move even if I tried to drag her would actually muster up a trot ON HER OWN! Oh well, at least she feels better. YAY

Good news-

We got the occupancy permit onthe new house, so we are starting to move in.

They started work on the barn for the new house (but the bad news is they nicked the waterline, so there was no water in the new house. supposedly fixed now.)

The footing at Frying Pan Park was good enough to go out for our first cross country school of the year.

The bad news is that I REALLY need to spend my time packing and moving instead of riding!

good news? well- not sure if its "happy" yet but the really sick horse at our barn had "some progress" according to the vet yesterday.

I will find out today what is up w/ my mare from he x-rays that she got yesterday- keep your fingers crossed! and if she can't compete, than i have another crazy idea that'll make up for it, but i can't share yet http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif.

I have posted my good news on another thread..."I've finally done it...(brag)" so i won't post it twice. Basically I've taken the big step and hopped abord my three year old IDx filly. She has been dream throughout the entire process. Everything I'd hoped for and more.

But my even better news is that March 10th, I get to go to Ireland to pick out a new baby to raise. I'm so excited, but worried at the same time because I'll be travelling with an infant for the first time. So to those of you who are parents, any suggestions would be greatly recieved!

I flew with my little one when he was only a couple of months old...it was a breeze! He slept the whole flight. I made sure to let him drink on the way up and down, but I don't think tiny infants have as much of a problem with ears "popping" as older babies.

Make sure you take a car seat with you! There will probably be none to be had in Ireland, where the rules are much more lax on those things. If you can afford it, get a seat for the baby on the plane and put the car seat in the plane for her to sleep so you can have a rest, too! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Carry baby Tylenol with you, in case of the fussies.

Have fun! What kind of youngster are you shopping for--another ID cross?

I always feel as though I'm jinxing myself to post on this thread, so I will refrain from counting the days until my first event of the season (not that I don't count them IN MY HEAD every day)...
but...
took my unsound-for-a-year horse (now sound, bless his feet!) to his first schooling show since we have rediscovered soundness. He jumped his first course in 18 months. He was marvelous in every way. I can't decide which is more amazing, that he can actually jump again, or that he did it with such calm competence after so long.

welllllllll http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

she was off about 3 weeks ago... we gave her some time off to see if time would heal it and it was just some minor thing... But, time didn't heal it, so the vet was out earlier this week and checked her out, did flex tests and she came up positive on the left fore and right hind http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif

so he did a BUNCH of x-rays yesterday and today he says she has a small bone spur on the left fore and arthritis in the right hind hock. I was worried it was something worse- but injections should fix her up! says the vet. So she is getting the right hind injected on friday and the left fore in about 10-14 days.

http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif so atleast my baby is gunna be ok! and competable! and, lucky me, in the purchase agreement her old owner still pays vet bills until I officially own her- so I don't have to pay for any of this. Such a super duper LUCKY me deal!

We have just had three whole days of sunshine! And today, the sun is out again! That makes a total of 5 sunny days, so far this year. Haven't popped in for quite a while. Been enjoying retirement way too much! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Didn't ride worth a darn in Dec (3 times), Jan (once http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif) and until this week in February but when I hopped back on Monday, T-Bay was a doll. So far I've ridden Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and we are supposed to get up to 50 and maybe even 60 by Monday so I'll be riding this entire long weekend! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

I also started going to Curves this week in hopes to be rid of the 25+ pounds I gained from quiting smoking. I'll try to remember to keep you updated on (hopefully) inches and weight loss! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

While I didn't ride until this week, I have been doing a room by room, closet by closet, drawer by drawer cleaning of the entire house. Some things haven't been touched in the 13+ yrs I've been here. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I'm having a wonderful time throwing things out too! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifBut since I was working a full time job and trying to maintain the farm as well by myself and maybe even ride I'm not surprised.

Gotta get the inside done so that come spring I can split more plants and start more gardens as well!

Well, that's my news for a while. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hi Barbara. Hope you're feeling better and getting some sleep.

I had a bad night's sleep last night, and had finally gone into that really deep sleep that always happens for too short of a time. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sleepy.gif I heard the clattering of hooves on the street by our house, but didn't surface enough to make sense of it. Then our dogs erupted in full force barking, which definitely woke me up. Looked out the front window to find 4 horses decorating our front lawn, and a frightened looking commuter standing there wondering what to do.

Mr. Frugal and I tossed on warm clothes and ran out to do some hoss wranglin'. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif We got them into a paddock along the street so they could be seen, and within 30 minutes a sheepish neighbor showed up to claim them.

How bad can a week be when horses come to visit? http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Wasn't it a great weekend here in the Mid-Atlantic? Yea! Saturday we took Bailey and MrBGH's bicycle to Fair Hill for an outing. Bailey has a mortal fear of bicycles, so I thought it was time to start working on getting rid of that fear. He was really snorty and anxious the whole time, but only tried the wheel-n-run once when DH tried to ride straight at us, head on. Now, he is a rider and knows better. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Maybe the lure of a good insurance policy? Anyway, the ride went well. We galloped a few stretches to start working up to a reasonable pace. OK, it was a gallop for us; probably a slow canter for most of you. Bottom line is we had fun and the sun was shining and spring is right around the corner. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Guess what? I finally sat on my CANTER mare today! Walked her around the ring on the buckle while other horses were being worked all around her. She picked up a trot and immediately went to a walk on my voice command. Second time she trotted a few steps (on our 4th or 5th time around the ring), I used a tiny bit of rein and voice to resume the walk.

She walked flat footed and didn't even offer to buck. Hooray!

Awww, GWV, we have a barn kitty that desperately wants to be a house cat. You can have him if you want (he's only a little schizophrenic), or check out the cat rescue organization in Salisbury/Amesbury (my mind is FAILING!). They are a no-kill shelter and have tons of lovely cats. Any kitty you adopt would have the best of homes.

Prozac Pony escorted Young Master Starbucks (5 yo OTTB) on a trail ride today, and they were both Very Good Boys, even when some jerkwads on dirt bikes (not permitted on the trails, of course) came zooming by - and revved their engines next to us for additional annoyance.

It was a loffly, sunny day after quite a long time of rain (for Phoenix, anyway), and it was great just to amble along in the sunshine.

Jumping lesson tomorrow, dressage lesson Tuesday, possible jumping lesson Wednesday (depending on when our trainer leaves town), off to Copper Meadows Thursday morning early!

I just found out I have my P.Ag status in BC! 4 years after graduating with my BSc in Geography I get to seal my own drawings and reports, and it opens up whole new avenues of job opportunities. Hopefully it will also mean a pay raise, so I can actually afford to go to more events (or pay off my debts before I go to any more events http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).

Weezie - Well, I,m looking forward to meeting you and Pol and any others from this board that are going to camp. Do you plan to ride with just one dressage instructor or try out several? Have you ridden with any of them before? This is my third year at camp. The past two years I rode with Ruth Hogan-Poulson (or however that's spelled) and John Zopata (people jumping get two dressage lessons) - and both were very good. Of course, all the instructors are really good, so you can't really miss no matter who you ride with. Anyway, lots of fun to look forward to!

And, yippee, I had a jumping lesson last night and my two point reemerged from the closet. I'm happy to find that focusing on flat work all winter has helped a ton with those turns on course!

I've only ridden with Jane Hamlin (for dressage) and not with any of the others. I'll just go with the flow. I'm just looking forward to the whole experience - I love GMHA.

Mary in Area 1 will be there too if she ever gets her application in.

Looking forward to meeting you too http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The good news is that this thread is closing in on 1000 posts! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

The better news is that I have no idea what posts Erin is referring to in her "Golden Rule" reminder, and I'm delighted that I don't. Fortunately, personal and vitriolic attacks seem quite the exception on the eventing forum. And that's very, very good news! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Weezie - Jane hasn't taught dressage when I've been at camp - but I've been lucky enough to ride with her twice each year. REALLY good jumping lessons. Anyway, you can't go wrong. As Barbara says - "Make it happen" - she sets up the opportunity and wants you to make the most of it, so if you decide you want to deviate from your schedule, all you need to do is coordinate it.

We JUMPED today!!! YAY MIKE!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif First time since Stuart's clinic last November! YAY MIKE!! Oh my goodness. He was all business and my ribs didn't hurt and now the sun is out and I am feeling better about going to Flora Lea next month. Funny how the 1st jump always makes me feel better. Yaaa, it was only 2 feet high and had 2 trot poles in front of it, but hey! He didn't rush or buck or leap and I didn't fall off and he got the correct lead each time on landing and we jumped it 4 times straight at the trot then cantered just the fence on an angle and he was perfect and now I am excited.

Barbara, I really think the honor of the 1000th post belongs to you, but I'll do my best to help get us there.

I trotted my CANTER newbie under saddle for the first time today. She's made great progress. She gets on and off the trailer politely, knows and obeys voice commands on the lunge line, and pays attention to me even when her herd mate is running around the indoor jumping fences. She even ground ties in the barn aisle.

So, despite the fact that it's snowing to beat the band, I have good news!

Happy weekend, all. I'll be looking for your 1000th post, GWV! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Checking in with #998. Got to get back to the family, however. Feel free to start the party without me, but don't let it end until I can join in!
