If your horse went from bright olive green apples to dark brown apples that break apart easier, what would be your diagnosis?
Assume nothing else has changed
How would you treat it?

Well, in my unofficial opinion... I'd prefer the latter, well... least more of a brown, firmer "apple" then an olive green colored one.

Haven't got a clue as to a diagnosis. And, you hay has stayed the same? No new weeds/etc growing in the pasture (or non-growing but available to eat)?

My BO's Arab mare gets bright green poo (can't even call it apples as it's not formed whatsoever) in the late fall. It's due to some changes in the pasture that she's in... whatever changes those may be cause the lovely shade of poo.

if this is a major deviation from normal manure, I'd be concerned and watchful but not alarmed yet. This is provided absolutely nothing has changed and horsie's demeanor is as chipper and bright as always. No signs of distress, etc. No change of eating habits or water, etc.

nicer that they break open easier, sounds like moister fluffier manure (manure connoisseur that I am :) hey I think I'm going to sig myself that one :) ). But, I've noticed in my herd, darker manure is older manure thats sat in the bowl a bit, generally a darker pile after a snooze or sleep when the horse hasn't been moving around much. Brighter piles come from ponies more on the move. (I'm lucky I have a paddock paradise type set up, if my horses loaf, its noticeable :) )

I will say though, I have noticed my aged gelding will get a reddish slime on his manure (which gives his manure a much darker cast) when he's feeling ulcery.

Today manure was back to normal.
He had me all terrified because last time he poop looked meh, I wormed him and 48 hours later he coliced with a mild impaction.
I gave him bran mash with probiotics, oil, and electrolytes just to be safe
