Was not sure whether to put this in Racing or Breeding forum but here it goes . . .

I have had someone inquire about breeding to my stallion and was hoping for second opinions. The foals are being bred to race with the consideration that the mare owner wants them to have good pedigrees for a second career once off the track. I have not received pictures of the mares yet so only have pedigrees to go by. The mares are:

The stallion is:

Without pictures I can not make a final decision as to whether these are good matches or not but like I said, was hoping for second opinions at least based on the pedigree information. I'm stuck as a stallion owner who would love to get foals on the ground, but not the wrong type of foals. :) My plan for my stallion is to get sturdy, sound foals on the ground for sport, if they race well that's great but not my main concern.

Opinions greatly appreciated!

The only one I would NOT breed to your stallion for love or money is the third one. Your stallion is already bred Mr. P. The third one has two more crosses to Raise A Native through Mr. P and Alydar. That is 3 crosses to Raise A Native. RAN produces super jumpers, but is also prone to a lot of front leg confo and soundness problems. They Alydars tend to be a pretty sound lot, the Mr.P's are not. The leg issues get better as you get more generations out....but you also really don't want to be LINE breeding it to concentrate it back IN.

The first horse: as a sporthorse breeder the first mare may be a bit tough in the temperment department with some of the names I see in that pedigree, but maybe the mare is a sweetie. Storm Cat tends to throw tough, Halo throws tough, Bold Ruler thrown hot, Ribot was nasty, some Hail To Reasons can be tough. If the mare is not difficult though then I don't see a problem like mare number 3.

I really *like* mare number 2 on paper. You do have the Raise A Native back in the woodpile again..............but at least in this mare it is once, 5 generations back and not through Mr.P. I would consider this one if both the mare and stallion have clean front legs.

If you get any pictures of #3, I'd love to see them  I have 2 mares in foal to Dream Run - both due in May :)

I agree, though, on the Mr. Prospector. Wouldn't want to double up on him that close...

Thanks so much for the opinions! That's exactly what I was looking for. I know with Mr.P so close up in my boys pedigree I want to be careful. Second opinions are worth their weight in gold! Thank you again!
