One of my horses will be importing into Wellington on Thursday of this week. Safe flight wishes to the "baby".
I will come as often as I can from California, work permitting.
I think he will have his first show in the FEI 4yos in late February/early March if all goes according to plan.

Hello Everyone!
I hope that everyone has a 2010 full of happiness, success, and prosperity!
Carlos and I will be in Wellington for the KWPN Annual Meeting (great topics for any Sport Breeder! Please come!) in March, and are hoping to come down two additional times to see Zenith compete. If anyone happens to see him school, or show, I would SO appreciate any photos you could email......
In order to help to identify him, here is some info.....Zenith (Indoctro Pref. X Nova Keur) is a dark bay stallion, with a small star, 6 years old, and ridden by Rodrigo Pessoa. I will ask his owner how he will be listed ownershipwise.....
I haven't seen Zenith since we went to the Stallion Selections in the Netherlands, over 3 years ago...... and can't wait to see how he matured!
TIA to anyone that might be able to send photos.....Zenith comes out of quarantine this week....
Warmly,
Karin

I am going over the 9th and 10th of January to run errands in West Palm and go see the some of the show at the Jim Brandon Center. And then again the 4th through the 6th of February for the Exquis Dressage Masters. I always take my camera so if anyone has horses showing the weekend of the 9th-10th, am happy to take some photos.

I know I am stuck here in PA, but a few that we bred will be going... Better Than Gold will be leaving this week with Olympic Showjumper rider Manuel Torres. A bay daughter of Beste Gold named Capri, bred by my dear friend, Barb Rickline, is supposed to go with her current owner Juliana Starbuck. I don't think Kelly Kaiser's Sailaway will get to Florida , but possibly NC later in the spring.
On the Dressage side, I think that the Marston's will be sending Zigmeister for some Prix St George, but am not sure if their daughter Spencer will be showing him, or just popping in and out.
I too would GREATLY appreciate if anyone could grab some photos!!!

I won't be there, unless it is vicariously through your accounts and pictures! So PLEASE post pictures for those of us stuck at work in northern climes!
Even pictures of random horses grazing would be drool-worthy this time of year. I barely remember what grass looks like. The highlight of my week was getting our first snowblower! Been married eight years and held out until now--it's just too much though.
The closest I've come to riding lately was holding my horse for the farrier and talking about it.

I have a very good friend who is lucky enough to live down there and keeps me updated. She told me last week that Aprio did the working hunters ( I think) and got a 6th and 8th. She hadn't heard/seen anything about Redwine and Aloha at that time. I haven't talked to her since then; she did comment that the class sizes seemed smaller this year, I believe that there were 11 horses in the above mentioned class?
I would love to hear more updates, too!

I believe that there were 9 in the working hunters last week, although we scratched Apiro on the second day as he seemed to be a bit body sore. We stuck him out there cold turkey after being off for almost 2 years. He is being a very good boy, but needs a few schooling weeks. With the quality of horses in his division, there is no room from green mistakes, that's for sure! There are some nice photos at www.mustphoto.com. I'll let you know how it goes this week.

showjumpers66
Jan. 20, 2010, 06:26 PM
It is addictive, isn't it??? Did you see that you can track horses automatically? How cool is that??? By the way, the placements are 1st to 8th and then order of go so anything after 8th place isn't a true placement even though the program is placing them.
We moved Apiro down to the 3'3" Non-tb hunters for schooling. No sense in burning him up over the big jumps while getting him settled in. There were 29 in his class. He didn't placed in the first class (had a swap were there shouldn't have been a swap ) but won the second class.

I was just going to ask what "True" and "False" meant under "Stand By" so that's super helpful! If I'm reading the site right it shows starting order (so using Apiro, for example 25th and then 1st to go??) in the class but not the number of entries--or am I not reading the website results correctly?
BTW I love you 3dogs. :) Seriously, great link/site!!!!
showjumpers66
Jan. 20, 2010, 06:35 PM
If you view results, yes "true" means the actual placement and "false" is just listing the rest of the horses in the class but that there is no actual placement past 1st through 8th. Are you choosing the ring and then viewing results for the class? You can also set it up to track specific horses.

I'm still in awe - this was a dressage horse until 4 months ago. I guess the switch can be flipped easier than I thought. Kudos to his connections - I never would have had the cojones to take him to the WEF four months later. I certainly am learning a lot.

No, he didn't show today. We are only schooling at this point. He was on total stall rest from January until August and then light riding September, so he has only been back in full work since October. He started doing gymnastics mid-November, so we need to take it slow with the course work until he is up to full speed. We are letting him tell us what he is up for right now.

In the mid to upper 20s for Redwine's classes. Around 12ish for Aloha's. There are 5000 horses registered to show so classes should get bigger as the weeks go on.
Speaking of classes, as I don't ride the hunters, what is a baby green hunter defined as? I think my definition of green is much greener! lol

Yup! Flirt with Gold is by All the Gold out of Royal Flirt xx (Princely Ruler-Twice Bold-Skymaster). It would be interesting to here what Viney or the other TB pedigree gurus could tell of us her pedigree as she was 1988 Best Young Horse at Keswick, Devon, Upperville, and Warranton and is a very strong producer for the hunter ring. Flirt with Gold is just one of many of her babies.

Congrats to all of you competing in Wellie World, very exciting so see the successes. Hey, Marydell, super about Don P and Courtney.
I don't show hunters and was wondering about the fact that of the hunter stallions competing in Pre-G or Baby G or Greens, they are all 6 to 10 or more years of age. And some showed in Europe. Is this usual or the norm? Just curious.
showjumpers66
Jan. 31, 2010, 04:36 PM
If they showed in the young jumpers in Europe, then they wouldn't be eligible for anything other than the 2nd Year Greens or Working Hunters. The 3' and 3'3" Non-TB Hunters are often used as warm-up or schooling divisions.

I made it to WEF!!!! SO excited to be missing the snow and stuff at home, though I have to say that the wind down here is brutal. I don't care if it is 60 degrees, when that wind is going it is COLD!
Anyway, I've seen a few of the boys already.
Saw Aloha in the Baby's from a distance - he was a bit happy today. Can't say i blame him with the cold and the wind! But I wasn't close, so didn't get to meet him. Going to watch him tomorrow with camera in hand.
Saw Apiro in the Non-TB 3'3". He was a little fresh, but still a good boy. Got to hang out with him for a few afterward. I am smitten! Such a personable boy - very friendly and God what a gorgeous horse!
Saw Redwine hack, then met him later at the wash rack. He's very pretty and very sweet! I love the roan patch on his neck - had no idea it was there! Going to watch him tomorrow as well! (edited to add that I am a dork! I just went and looked at his photos on the website again and you can see that roan patch. It's just so much more noticeable in person!)
Also going to try to catch a few others (there is a chestnut stallion in the Non-TB's that I want to watch again. I don't remember his name or rider right now though...) in the next few days - and not just the stallions. Zenith is on the list, as well as Flirt With Gold if that one is still here (can't find it on Shownet) and Capri and Bozeman. I'll take pictures of those I do catch!
I have a few photos of Apiro from today, and am going to send them to SJ66 to post if she so chooses.
I did get to see Balt' Amour school yesterday and he is a handsome and talented boy! I was looking forward to seeing him show, but his owners felt he wasn't quite right so he's not going to make it to the ring just yet.
It's been great seeing everyone I see in KY all the time (people that is!!) and I do have to say that WEF is quite the experience so far! I'm working on making it to the Hunter Spectacular this weekend... Got to see if I can find some cheap tickets!
If anyone else is down here, let me know - I'd love to get together for an $8 cup of coffee! ( if you are here you know I am only half kidding!)

Redwine is moving up appropriately. He's now in the level 2 pregreens 3'3". He's only in training for about 3 months a year because of his busy breeding season and he goes to one show series. He'll move up again to the 1st years at WEF this year. It's much better to move up appropriately then have to go back down.

I just love how he is so soft across the ground in between the fences, and how his superb jump is just an extension of his canter stride
For a breeding stallion that is as busy as he is, to have these sort of results with 3 months of schooling a year and to then breed the remaining months and then come back out again next year and to repeat that same schooling/showing/breeding cycle is exemplary
And I do agree with Jill's comment:
It's much better to move up appropriately then have to go back down.
IMO, he is being so intelligently managed and handled so that he satisfies the MO's that want to see him "do something" out there, but also want him to be available when their mares are ready to breed ...
I am verry happy to see that he looks even better this year than he did last year and that speaks volumes when I thought he looked great already LAST year!!!

He's a 2000 model, so will be 10 this year. But keep in mind he was imported from Germany only2-3 yrs ago, and was mostly schooled in dressage over there (not sure what he showed up to) but they don't have hunters, so this is all still new for him!

Thursday's update...
Well, I missed Aloha today - he was standing at the wash rack when I got to the show. Since it looks like I'll be here next week as well (YAY!) I'll make him a priority. I did go over and meet him. He's not as big as I thought he would be, and was surprisingly quiet today given his 'happiness' of yesterday. He seems very sweet and I am looking forward to watching/photographing him next week if he shows (don't know if he is going to get the week off or not).
Made it a point to make it to the ring to watch Redwine. He's dead quiet standing ringside - so much so that you notice it. Then he went in the ring and laid down two very nice, consistent trips. I can't tell if he's bored or what, but he's not the roundest jumper I have seen - he just doesn't seem to always use himself or really care, though he is a technically good jumper, with his knees up and even. He's also not as big as I thought - he's more typey/modern and light than I was thinking he was (as is Aloha), but I think the fact that he's had smaller men riding him skews the size a little. But again, he's a very, very pretty horse and I can certainly see why he is a popular stallion.
When I went back to watch the Non-TB 3’3” hunters, I wanted to see the blingy chestnut stallion I had seen yesterday. His name is Poddium and he’s a 13 year old Westphalian, but with no sire/dam info listed. I didn’t get to talk to his people, so I have no other info on him – sorry. He’s very attractive, nice coppery chestnut with a narrow-ish blaze and stockings on two legs and socks on the other two. He’s a gorgeous animal to look at, also more on the typey/modern side. He’s a good jumper, though maybe not the most scopey. I just looked him up on USEF and he has an odd history… He showed in the 1st years in 2004 at 3 shows, nothing in 2005 or 2006, Non-TB three weeks at WEF in 2007, Lows in 2008 at a variety of FL shows, Non-TB at one week of WEF 2009, and then at least a couple of weeks at WEF this year. I wonder what he has been doing all this time? He looks very sweet, and has great expression. If I see him next week I am going to ask!
Watched Apiro go for a 2nd day. He really is one of the most stunning horses I have seen. He just has a je ne sais quoi thing going on that makes it hard to look away from him. And I have to admit that I found it telling that everyone that knows Nikko kept asking when they could ride him. Today he was alert and interested, with less of the fresh from yesterday. He jumped around beautifully. He’s a big horse, but very well put together. Nikko rides him beautifully, and it’s obvious he enjoys the horse very much. I can’t wait to see what they do next week.
Also saw an eye-catching young stallion on the way back from the pre-greens. Recently imported, by Coronet Obelensky, bay and very handsome. He’s doing the 6yo Young Jumpers and I spoke to his rider for a few minutes to get some info. Can’t wait to see him go tomorrow and I will definitely have the camera handy!
On to a few photos… Sorry owners, I’ll send these to you as well, but I want to post them and take all the credit!

Sorry for the two back-to-back posts, but I want these two things to be separate.
I can not believe some of the stuff I have just read on here. It’s a shame that American breeders can’t be happy for each others stallions, and feel the need to toss out underhanded snide comments. Do you really think it’s a bad thing that a trainer decided to take a horse down a step to get him back up to speed? Really? I think that’s a sign of a good trainer that cares about the horses instead of the ribbons. Should he have started out in the Regulars after almost 2 full YEARS off? Maybe not, but the fact that they realized that the first day and are doing what is best for the horse means a whole hell of a lot more to me than any ribbon won at any cost, by any means.
I have no personal stake in any of these stallions and my comments are made based on my observations and what I see in front of me on that day. Anything I have said is my OPINION and not meant to be taken as anything other than just that.
Personally I am in awe of the stallion owners that do send their horses out into the big, bad world. God knows that one little mistake will set all the tongues to wagging and heaven forbid they should act like * GASP * horses in public. They are stallions and should look and act like it – if they don’t then what’s the point? It bothers me when I see any horse that looks and acts like a robot, not interested in what’s going on around them – especially so when it’s a stallion, since that alert ‘knowing’ is a large part of what makes them worthy of being reproduced in the first place.

I love hearing about all of the boys and offer sincere congrats for current wins and best wishes for continued success to their owners. It is not easy competing at this level period, but even tougher with stallions.
Two more to watch for would be Zenith (YJ) and Fielding (lvl 2 Pre-Green).
Would you like me to take down the other pics, so that you can add a copyright logo?

Congrats! Very cool!!!
Capri was either Champion or Reserve of the Low Hunters out of 20+ this week. Since she is only the second by our boy to be of age to compete, if anyone could get some pics of her , I would sure appreciate it. She also showed at WEF V in the 3-4 y.o. Pre Greens and the Non Tb, if that would help anyone track her down. TIA

Thursday's update...
He's also not as big as I thought - he's more typey/modern and light than I was thinking he was (as is Aloha), but I think the fact that he's had smaller men riding him skews the size a little. But again, he's a very, very pretty horse and I can certainly see why he is a popular stallion.
 My mother went down to watch this week and just told me how much heavier he was than she expected. I'm going to tell her to take another look.

Went and watched some Young Jumpers today. Ended up taking over 400 photos. Yeah, it's an addiction... Lots of eye candy in the stallion department. LOTS. Going to start going through pictures now and will post them as I get them re-sized and ready! One thing I will say - sit down everyone - watching Cantari jump around made me want Cornet Obolensky frozen, even if he is grey! Wowzers!!
Will also post pics of some of the other horses. The two Corlando babies of course, and I forgot to post the photos of Balt'Amour, so will get them up as well (he's very handsome!)...

Come on down! Well, once you're off foal watch LOL!!
I went to the big Hunter Spectacular thing last night. It was really good! There were some gorgeous horses (of course) and, interestingly enough, one of them is an ex-three day event horse! How cool is that? Needless to say the big ring under the lights didn't phase that one!
I am excited for next week because not only do I get to watch all the boys go again (I have my list ready!), it's the week of WEG qualifiers! YAY!! (I really appreciate a great hunter round and really nice hunters, but jumpers are where my heart is!)
If anyone else has any suggestions of who I need to see (hunter or jumper), let me know and I'll try to add them in to my schedule!

Kinsella, have you seen As Always? He was sold last fall and has been doing the Adults and Non-TB at WEF.
Besides pictures, I'm wanting to be nosy and see if he's still a stallion and if they're planning on breeding him at any point. ;)

I'll add As Always to the list of horses to try to see (they have to go behind the ones I *have* to see) and will report back to you. At the very least I can track down someone to ask the important questions LOL!
And I want to clarify something. When I said this about Redwine:
He's also not as big as I thought - he's more typey/modern and light than I was thinking he was...
I was not speaking of height - I was speaking of mass. Height wise, he's definitely taller than me, and I am 5'4" (16 hands).

Good - thats PERFECT for me and what I was looking for, for my Faux Finish mare! :) I was intentionally staying away from any WB stallions that were going to add too much bulk to her. I wanted to maintain the elegance and refinement and from what I saw in pictures and video footage and from those that had seen him in person, Redwine fit that bill perfectly ... :)

Redwine put in a GORGEOUS first trip in the First Year's today. The second class was the Handy, and he was a very good boy, but looked a little confused by all the turns and stuff (I don't know if have Handy rounds in the Pre-Greens). Overall he was fantastic. He wasn't even phased by the downpour that occurred while waiting for the jog (the bottom dropped out and wind was whipping - it was raining sideways!) - his groom ran him over to stand under a spectator tent with all the other horses (I rescued Peter's saddle off the rail for the poor groom - his hands were full of horse and coolers and anti-sweats!).
Aloha was good today as well. Missed a change in the one class, but jumped around like a very good boy. I think he's still a bit greener and isn't quite as settled in the hunter routine yet. He's getting better every week, so hopefully it'll all click for him before he heads home for breeding season!
Apiro isn't showing this week, but I did go by and give him lots of kisses. :)
Missed the Young Jumpers today. :(
Apache is AWESOME! Can't wait to see him again tomorrow night!

Hooray for Redwine! With this sort of result, and being able to study three kids that we have, and liking them more each day, I have to say this stallion appears to be the real deal. Not just a pretty face, or a limited, flash in the pan, but a true hunter with a great disposition. The "pretty" he puts on his kids seems to be VERY prepotent!

Yes. Most have taken this week off as you saw by the lack of numbers in the various classes. The lack of coverage of the hunter rings by the photogs is also evidence of it being an off week.

Very small?? Looks like around 17 in the 1st Year Greens. They wouldn't call a class with 17 1st Year Greens "very small" ;) at any of the rated shows in So. Cal that I've been at?? Granted, it isn't the 40 +/- they may have had in previous weeks, but not like there were 4 or 5. Guess Florida is not in the same economic bucket as California.

He might be in 3'3" Non-TB hunters next week. Wendy and Nikko has done a fantastic job with his rehab and fitness, but it has been a slow process. As soon as he is 100%, he will be back in the working hunters. Unfortunately, it is just day by day at this point.

8th of 26 O/F and 5th in the hack in the NON TB,,
and with 20 in the Low - 3rd, 8th,8th O.F. and 3rd in the hack.. to be so consistent in this company, she has played "Big Girl" pretty well since the first time out!

WOW! I am SO happy I have four mares in foal to him.
What a gorgeous boy he is!! Of course I already knew this from all the pictures I have seen of him... but what I didn't know was just how amazing his temperament is! He was absolutely perfect in every way, never a hoof out of place. Beyond quiet and willing. From what I could tell... the scores he received at his stallion testing ( 10's on character, constitution and rideability) are 100% dead on accurate!!! And while I certainly do appreciate his flashy exterior ... his interior is (by far) what impressed me the most. I am thrilled that the German judges "hit the nail on the head" as I have an exceptional but very opinionated Weltmeyer mare in foal to him.

It was nice meeting you Donna!
Yes, Redwine has been impressive in his First Year Green debut here at WEF. (yes, I still consider the 2nd week to be a debut!) And he's such a sweet boy - I gave him more pats and scritches yesterday. Peter has been super as well - letting me have access the average passerby wouldn't have. So tell him Thanks! from me, OK Jill?
Apiro is looking good and will be back in the ring next week according to his people at the show. Watched him school a few bigger fences the other day and he was fresh and having fun. I can't wait to see him in the ring again!

Thank you Angela!! I told Jill how you helped make a completely miserable (freezing cold with biting wind and no sun) day, infinitely more enjoyable! The rides and tour were very much appreciated!! Thank you, Thank you!!!
Even yesterday my hands still felt stiff and frozen!
I agree with you about Peter Pletcher... what a nice guy. He truly seemed to love Redwine and even though he was very busy showing... he was more than happy to take the time and report just how he felt about him!!
Hey I saw how your eyes lit up watching the jumpers!! Go have fun!!! And remember not to drool while you watch Apiro... it might freeze in place!!
Jill has some of the pics I took already. I liked the jump shot over the grey but of course it doesn't compare to the spectacular one you took over the brown fence.... That one is "GOOD"!!
Do you remember the name of that bay mare in the Hack class we watched? I want to look up her bloodlines.
Kinsella
Mar. 5, 2010, 01:27 PM
Her name is Star Quest's Serenade. I have a feeling she is a better mover than jumper - she won both of her hacks, but didn't get good ribbons in any O/F... But man, what a pretty mare!!! I will try to watch her go next week O/F and see what the real deal is...
I'm back home working on photos before the Nations Cup class tonight. Will get some posted soon!

Serenade's sire and dam are listed as "unknown".
DARN IT!!! If I had thought about it... one of the babies I had bred showed yesterday and today. Would have LOVED to hear how she looked going around. They show her under the name "Hope Floats". I know she won O/F a few weeks ago and last week she got a 2nd and three 8ths out of 52!!
Her owner/rider calls her the "littlest horse with the biggest stride"! To think I culled the mare that produced this filly BECAUSE of this filly. She scored very poorly at inspections. The lowest score (by far) of any horse I have bred to date! OOPS! :-) She is Oxford X Lacoste.
