I just got a really nice email from Betsy Cawley to let me know that her three old Scimitar/Weltmeyer mare, Sassafrass has won the 2009 AHS Hartwig prize for the best young American bred mare. Sassafrass was the champion mare at her inspection and had great scores in her performance test after just three months under saddle including a 9 for rideability and a 9 for general impression.
I thought this was a great way to ring in the new year!! Happy New Year to all you BBers may 2010 bring you all such fun news!

Big congratulations!
The Scimitar filly we bred out of an Epic Win TB mare was so easy also to get started. She was earning ribbons just 3 mo under saddle and now her new owner just adores her. She is going to be 5 this year and is always in the ribbons competeing in Green hunter classes for her teenage owner. Scimitar sure passes on his great mind and willing attitude. The other Scimitar we bred was out of an Arabian mare and he was in the ribbons at the Sport Horse Nationals! His owner raves about him and how wonderful he is to work with. Such a nice stallion, consistently produces very nice offspring.

Ok then.
Here's the point.
We just had a thread where we discussed stallion owners who embellish their horses' winnings or level of performance. Both the stallion and the offspring.
Maybe we need a mare owners thread too.
You stated :"She is going to be 5 this year and is always in the ribbons competeing in Green hunter classes for her teenage owner"
According to USEF this horse is showing in PreChildrens Hunter.
If there are recent shows that have not been reported then I apologize but PreChildrens Hunter is long, long way from Green Hunters. And I'm sure you know that.

I guess inaccurate information bothered you.
Glad to see that. Maybe next time the mare owner will be a little more honest about touting your stallion.
Do you not ralize that whatever claims you or a mare owner make are able to be verified.?
Probably just me but if I see claims that a stallion is producing something he's not I'd run far away and make sure everybody I know realizes the SO is full of bull.

My God you are a bit pissy. Let me clarify...I am not a hunter rider so am not well versed in what levels of showing for this discipline entails. I know she is green and the girl is actively showing her and that is why I said green hunters...meaning (since you are so anal about the written word) she's showing as a green hunter. She is a young girl, so it makes since she is in the pre-childrens or whatever class. And in fact, that even says more to me...this is a 17.2h green Hanoverian that a young girl is showing and doing well on. She was showing her as a 4yo to present, a coming 5yo. I was not aware of the ACTUAL name for the classes she attended, and was not trying to give false info. Wow, you must have a lot of time on your hands to quickly check data on everyone. I certainly have nothing to gain by touting this stallion. I simply was agreeing that the TWO offspring we had by him were exceptional.

Huge Congrats Ursula!-- Both you and Simitar deserve the recognition.
I am sorry that people have to rain on the parade. If you owned a stallion, you would realize just how hard it is to get anything out to the public if you do not own/show the offspring yourself.
Inaccurate semantics are usually NOT intentional.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!
Ursula, I am very excited for you, and am sorry about the negative turn this thread took......No one knows better than I do, that you have to have a very thick skin to consider posting on this forum (and is often the reason that I don't post very often).
Scimitar is a lovely horse, and Ursula is one of the most HONEST, and talented horseman/woman that I have ever had the pleasure to work with and call my friend. What a great start to what I hope will be your best year yet Ursula!
Fondly,
Karin

Ursula, that is a big, big deal! HUGE congrats! I do wish to tell the people on this board that do not know Ursula that she says what she means, does what she says, is always honest, and would NEVER intentionally say something misleading. She is a dressage rider, not a hunter rider, and that might be where the confusion came from. She is the last person to brag about her horses, and I can honestly tell you that I am 100% sure that she did not intentionally misspeak the accomplishments of that mare. It is a new year, people, let's all make this world a better place, one small step at a time. Imagine what we could all do if we worked together with our love of horses in common, instead of against eachother??
Just a Thought for the day...

We absolutely ADORE our 2 year old colt by Scimitar out of a Pointmaker mare. We will be showing him this year, we have a busy schedule planned for him. Now if we could just keep him in his paddock...he jumps the 5 rails easily, heads for the lawn.
We have the same mare booked right back to Scimitar, as another well known SO told me, 'dont mess with a cross that obviously works! ' We enjoy working with Ursula and find that indeed she is pretty modest about her stallions and their accomplishments.
Lets all aim for the best in '10.

Congrats Ursula! That is a great accomplishment.
My daughter has taken our Scimitar/Walk on Top mare with her to college and is getting ready to show her in the spring. She is doing wonderfully under saddle and is the barn favorite with several of the riders even though she has only been under saddle for 3 months. She is thinking showjumping and dressage for her.
For anyone interested, I have bred several mares over the years and Ursula was a stallion owner who worked just as hard as I did to make sure my mare took. She is very honest and above board and perhaps too modest sometimes about the quality of her stallions.

LOL, Ursula! Sometimes I forget that's still on there.:D
It's a remnant from the eventing forum in response to a slur from Captain Mark Phillips when he referred to any eventer not showing internationally as a "smurf". Yes, he made that quote in an actual publication for posterity. He's a complete doofus.:D

I am the owner of Stoic Win LJS.
She was very green when I bought her but she has come a long long way.
I am bothered by whomever had an attitude, but to clarify Whinny and I have been showing since she was 4 years old and are still doing so. continuously in the ribbon. I just ADORE Scimitar and his offspring!

What a horror of a human being.
This board, by and large, is filled with wonderful helpful people. If you are soo jealous, ignorant or a combination of the two then perhaps you should find another playground that matches you age group/maturity level.
GEESH.....you are totally suggesting that these people, who readily admit to not being "hunter" people, are liars. I am sure that you can find a more tactful way of probing to get the answers if that is what you were really trying to do. Was it?

Guys... look at the dates, the posts from #32 back are over a year old. Not sure why this thread was brought back... might be that people did not notice how old it is.
Schimitar is an amazing stallion with a unique pedigree for sporthorse breeders.
As for all the criticism we see thrown about... if you take a second look at the most vocal critics, they often have nothing special to crow about. They are just like every one else... struggling to make that magic breeding combination and then to get the resulting progeny into the right situation to properly show off the quality that was produced. If anyone thinks that's quick and easy to do, they simply haven't done it. Overall it's easy to pick others apart... but getting horses out in competition is a whole 'nuther kettle of fish. We should be a bit kinder to each other.
