He's standing in western New York----

We've crossed him with an RID & the resulting weanling
seems to be quite nice!
He has several offspring, from 3 years old, on down.

Aaannd I've added another stallion to my shortlist!
I like him a lot!!

I love my Kris S mare. Adore her. And I have an Alydar mare who is one of the fanciest movers on the farm. So, Yes, I like his breeding very much :D

It's a really interesting pedigree. Belthazar was the dam of Wac, who is by Lt. Stevens. When bred to Roberto, Wac produced Lear Fan, one of the great Roberto sire sons. So you have all those really good relations and no inbreeding.

Kris S was one SOB while standing at stud, but most Roberto sons are. From what I understand, it's a roll of the dice whether that temperament gets passed down to sons. Kissin Kris is a menass, but I'm not sure if mares are affected. The bottom half of the pedigree is much better than average for sport. Having Gold Bridge within five is most unusual and most promising. He's a line who shows up over and over in TBs who jump.

I love the thinking behind the breeding, but am less impressed by the photo of the actual horse. It ain't a glamour shot. :) Of course, he's overweight and a bit over at the knee, but since he's not had to be in shape for years it's hard to tell much. Love the fact that he IS uphill and has the potential for passing on huge engines.

I don't think I'd worry about the over at the knee too much. Some mighty tough horses were over at the knee and never went lame.

don't you find it difficult to make an accurate call about front end conformation on a horse who had a shoulder injury while still growing and from a photo, no less?

Yes :) but they would still worry me. It doesn't look like it comes from the shoulder, as it's the classic knee bowed out vs from above, at least from the little I can tell from that image. I'd need to see other pictures, video, and/or in person before I'd consider breeding to him (offspring pictures would be nice as well). Just really hard to judge from that picture, but certainly worth doing the research to see if it is a conformation flaw and if he passes it on before saying he is great (IMHO).

Any horse that had an accident that prevented him from continuing a race career is apt to have some odds and ends that look a bit strange. I'd probably want to ask the stallion owner about the injury and if that's what causes the odd looking leg then who cares.
But on pedigree for a sporthorse sire you have Alydar,Hail to Reason and Prncequillo all within 3 back. Buckpasser is probably too far back to make a difference but I like him too.
I'd certainly be interested in him.

it said he had a stall accident as a 2 yr old after a race and hurt his shoulder so bad he could never race again. This could be why he stands funny in the front. My guess is if he hurt his shoulder that bad...in his stall...it probably wasn't a very pretty accident.

If you're looking for a nice TB stallion in the WNY area, I have a mare by King's Arrow. He's located in West Falls, NY I believe.

Anyways, she is an incredible mover. She moves out from the shoulder and has that moment of hesitation at the trot, so she seems to be floating. I love watching her move :D

Not sure what you're looking for, but I'd say he'd make some nice dressage or eventing babies.

New York also has Crusader Sword by Damascus and Northern Spur, both of whom are pretty good bets for sport horses. Crusader Sword is very old but apparently still breeding. I have a TB mare I'd love to breed to Northern Spur, but the trip for live cover would kill me and my pocketbook. They both stand at Foggy Bottom Farm which has another gorgeous stallion--Skip To The Stone by Skip Trial out of a really nice mare line.

If Geneseo, NY is Western, then they are also in Western NY.
