Yearling height, could he be a pony?

I've been window shopping again:D And have come across a full trak colt a few times....anyway the lastest is that he stands only 13.1hh at 14 months. His dam stands 15.3hh and sire at 16.1hh. Dams first foal. Now the owner is saying this is the chance for pony breeders to have a full bred trak large pony stallion? He is not much over a year at that measurement (14months) but I don't think he will be a pony? Maybe in that hard to market middle range? I'm not a breeder is he really going to be a pony?? What are your average yearling heights, given the parents heights?

He might be a shrimp, but his genes are not 'pony.'

You could wind up with ANYTHING if he were to be bred on.

There are lines of TK's that grow very very slowly (like don't assume they are done until 7 or 8). I have a filly who is a long yearling and she is very small (I'm guessing around 13 something hands) but she has gone through a recent growth spurt and finally surpassed her pony friend who is the same age. So I'm hopeful that she will be 15.3 when all is said and done. But she has Enrico Caruso in her and that is one of the lines that grows SLOOOOOOWWW.

There are also TKs that are small. Usually they are the mares, but I know of several that are in the mid range of 15 hands - they aren't all giants.

Not saying this colt will get larger, but I wouldn't assume (esp at this age) that he will be a pony. Also wouldn't assume that he would be able to breed and produce ponies (and he could not be approved Trak if he remains small, minimum height for ATA is 15.3 hh for stallions.).
