Farrier couldn't believe it. There have been months where there was nothing to trim on the bare hinds. This time he took out the nippers. He's been on all kinds of hoof supps, both the 15 dollar ones and the over $30 crowd. Guess what the only change was?
I added msm to his diet about 2 mos. ago.
It just has to be the msm. This is really cool. I've done everything to get hoof growth.
Had to share.

Sulpher is an essential component of horn ,hair and and skin. MSM is a source of sulpher, so maybe now you know what he was missing all this time. :)

It's always the simple things, isn't it?

You probably need to take a more holistic approach and review the totality of your horse's diet and check that he's not lacking in something that this supplement has topped up.

I've had both of my mares on "Horseshoers Secret" for months. One mare has corrective shoeing for a huge crack that goes all the way to her cornet band (her feet had not been touched for 4 years before I got her) My other mare started to split from the cornet band down. The "HS" seems to be taking forever and this sounds like an alternative. Is the MSM used with other supplements? Does it pass the "Horsey Taste Test" in general?

MSM is great stuff, and cheap. My horses, dogs and I all take it. It helped my old gelding tremendously - I was going to euthanize him when he was 23, as he was not really pasture sound from arthritis. After giving him the MSM, I could RIDE him again, and he lived to 34. My GSD developed arthritis quite young. She's been on MSM for years, and at 12.5 gets around fairly well. And me - well, let's just say people often guess I'm much younger than I am. MSM is also good for the skin.

Is horsey still on a hoof supplement or is the MSM the only one he's getting?

MSM is my go to supplement for all horses- it's cheap, palatable, and multi purpose useful! Right now my two older geldings get it for the anti inflammatory joint relief purpose, but it has many other uses. Good for you!

MSM, copper and zinc did wonders for my boy's feet.
He's off all three now due to other health issues, and his feet are just not the same!!

Flash, what health issues have him off those things? Just curious :)

Hey there... he started having these very bizarre episodes this summer.... having trouble urinating and acting colicky, he dropped a ton of weight, and then he started dragging his hind toes and looking uncoordinated. He stopped drinking well and only picked at his food. We pulled blood and did every diagnostic we could do in-barn. Bloodwork was a wee bit wonky but nothing alarming.
We pulled him off all his supplements and most processed grains and started giving him "soup" of hay pellets and some TC Senior 3x a day.
I know he did VERY poorly summer of '08 as well but don't know details (I got him in Oct. '08, body score of 2.)
My vet was referring us to the closest equine clinic when he suddenly started to perk up. Coincided with the weather cooling off, and also the feed change. We decided to wait it out and see how he did.
He had gone to a new barn last spring that had a totally different turnout situation and feeding routine, and the BOs were.... interesting. Dunno if that stressed him out, if there was something in the hay that was off, if he was eating weeds out in the pasture, or if he was just not getting to the water source (he's low man on the totem pole) and getting dehydrated.
He's fat and happy now, back at his "old" barn and doing 100 times better. Go figure.
But myself, BO and vet are not wanting to change his routine and put him back on any supplements or make any revisions to his stripped-down feeding routine.
OK wow that was a total hijack. (JB did you ever find yourself a baby horse?!?)

TTP, I'm thrilled to hear you have some noticeable hoof growth!! This has been a long haul, if I'm remembering your hoof threads correctly.
