I've heard through word of mouth that a university (not sure which?) is doing clinical trials where they inject the laminae of a founder/laminitic horse with botox and it supposedly halts and even reverses some of the damage.

I've searched online for findings but can't seem to locate any.

Has anyone else heard of this or know where I can get some reading material on it? It sounds very interesting and possibly like a big breakthrough!

This is really interesting to me-- I get Botox injections for terrible headaches.

Botox only lasts for 3 months. I can personally attest that it starts to wear off after 2 and by 4 its absolutely gone. I'm not well versed with laminitis... if you injected the deep flexor tendon, would it have to be redone every 3 months, or is the horse 'cured'? I think that would be the big factor in this treatment's success.

The other problem is the price of Botox. It's EXPENSIVE. About $500 for 100 units.

You may have done this already, but I googled "laminitis botox" and saw a few interesting threads.

Two doctors in Gulf Breeze, FL have actually patented using this treatment. From what I'm reading, they used 100-600 units per hoof, so it is definitely going to be a pricey treatment.

Here is the patent- http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7473429.html
