From Jennie's COTH Post:

"He was a champion, and I hope that he will be remembered for what he was and could be. I didn’t deserve Cooper, and what he gave me in four years was more than any other horse ever could and will..."

You are a class act Jennie. Your poise and maturity throughout this entire ordeal was very impressive.

So sorry to hear about Cooper, but you made the right decision for him. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again.

I am so sorry about Cooper. You are such a class act, nice, honest, and humble. He was an awesome horse. I wanted to post the rainbow poem...but I am sure someone already has. We lost a horse on Friday the
13th, and it hurt really bad. We had him for 17 years, and there is no one that can make the hurt go away. But we have prayers for you.

RIP COOPER, you were FANTASTIC. Say hi to Bear for Us.

Dec. 15, 2009, 01:42 PM
Adding my condolences--it is really hard to fight such a valiant fight and still know when the right time is to say when.

I am so sorry for your loss. Cooper was the best!

Dec. 15, 2009, 03:56 PM
I think it is because our horses give so, so much and ask for so little in return that they can break our hearts so deeply. I haven't been in the position to have to make that decision, but it has to be one of the hardest to make. My condolences to Jennie and the rest of Cooper's crew.

Dec. 15, 2009, 03:58 PM
As with most things, when the horse's life is ended, everyone is sad, and feels for the owners and connections. I'm feeling all of that, plus this: I am glad he is through with the suffering. It is hard to watch a horse go through what this horse went through, and it teaches you a lot of hard lessons. You look back and second guess all of your decisions, and try and find a way to justify the things that were done to save his life. In the end you know you have to let him go and as hard as that is, it's the right thing.

You never want to wish that on anyone and you never want to hear it has to be done to someone's horse.

You always are different afterwards.

Nothing can prevent accidents. Nothing prepares you for disasters. You only hope and pray you can get through them if they happen.

Godspeed, Cooper. Condolences to Jennie.

Don't Cry For The Horses
By: Susan Humphrey

They were ours as a gift, but never to keep,
As they close their eyes forever to sleep.
Their spirits unbound,
On silver wings they fly.
A million white horses,
Against the blue sky.
Look up into heaven,
You'll see them above.
The horses we lost,
The horses we loved.
Manes and tails flowing,
As they gallop through time,
They were never yours- they were never mine.
Don't cry for the horses,
They'll be back some day.
When our time is gone,
They will show us the way.
Do you hear that soft nicker?
Close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses,
Love the ones that are here.

Jennie-My deepest sympathies and thoughts are with you. GODSPEED COOPER!

Dec. 15, 2009, 10:49 PM
I've been to a lot of events in my life, but remember very clearly the first time I saw Cooper. I was watching SJ at River Glen, where I believe he was competing in one of his first intermediate HT's. He cantered in and jumped a lovely round with Jennie, and then trotted out. That trot was just like nothing else. My friend turned to me with her jaw dropped and said, "wow. you don't see that every day."

Since then I've followed Cooper and Jennie closely and will always remember him as one of the most beautiful, talented horses I have ever seen. I'm so sad that he is gone. Jennie, I'm so sorry and can't imagine what it is like to lose a horse like that. You've handled it with grace and I wish you much better luck from here on out.

Dec. 16, 2009, 12:51 AM
Wish Jen the peace that Cooper has found.

Dec. 16, 2009, 08:22 AM

Dec. 16, 2009, 11:07 AM
So sorry that this was the outcome, but without any doubts, the right decisions were made by the human beings who let Cooper go in peace and dignity and who were there for him at the end.
This is how we love our horses.
