I was talking to the BO about possibly giving Ace to my horse before hand walking and he mentioned a generic version that he had-- Would a BO be able to have this and such (as he does have some and said we could try it), or do I need to call my vet to get it (and would I be able to get a prescription on the weekend)?
This generic version seems to start working faster (IM and IV) and lasts a shorter amount of time?? Any experience with it or should I make an excuse and not try it (and just get Ace from the vet)? TIA.

never heard of such a thing but regular acepromazine is not too expensive and will work quickly given IV. Ace is a mild sedative I have to give 6cc of 25mg/ml to get effect but he is really used to it. Good Luck!

Again, I agree with Fharoah. Never heard of it. My guys are light weights. 1/2 cc (tho I can't tell you if I am using 25mg/ml)

When I order my medical supplies from the vet often there are substitute "Off Label" generics in my package same as when you buy your stuff at the drug store. Ingrediantes teh same but labeled from another source.
Can't wait for Adequains patent to run out for same reason:)

ace is only about $20 a bottle here. IM lasts longer but isn't as potent, IV is more potent but doesn't last as long.
Most of mine get IM for what it's worth.

Ask your vet.
I thought acepromazine already WAS "generic".
It sounds as if your BO is suggesting an alternative, rather than a"generic", so I would definitley want to check with the vet.

Acepromazine is the name of the drug, not the brand name. I also would check with a vet first, since anything other than the name of "acepromazine" is either a brand name (and something you want to find out about), or another drug entirely.

Annnnd....anything that is Acepromazine is a prescription medication, you must have an Rx to get it, you can't just get it from your bo (legally that is)
