Just curious what everyone else uses?

You would have better luck posting on the breeding forum.
But I did a monthly rotation alternating between SafeGuard, Strongid, and ivermectin. The SafeGuard and Strongid were double doses by weight. You need to use more than just ivermectin though, as it is not terribly effective against round worms.

It would, however, I believe that forum is more about breeding, and worming is more about horse care.
I rotate through iver/strongid/panacur/and a generic Pyrantel Pamoate.
I was more curious as to what was safe for a guy his age. First weanling.

I go with a very "conservative" approach with the weanlings. First, I give the mare Ivermectin within an hour post foaling. Then the foal gets Panacur, monthly (foal dosage, which is double the normal dose-- those still a small amount due to how little a foal weighs).
My weanlings are at home, and it's not a "wormy facility". After the first of the year, when they are technically yearlings (but realistically not yet 12 months) I start the rotation-- add Strongid first, since it's the second mildest. I alternate Panacur and Strongid til early summer, when they are a full year. Then I switch to a Strongid/Anthelcide/Ivermectin rotation, every other month instead of monthly. I don't mind dosing heavier with Panacur and Strongid-- but when I add the Ivermectin and Anthelcide I'm very careful to do the correct dosage by weight. Anthelcide in particular can give them a loose stool if you overdose.
This program has worked really well for me, hope it helps.

Try a search - we've discussed foal worming, resistance of ascarids (round worms) to ivermectin, etc :)
If one only uses Panacur and Strongid and Anthelcide, you aren't getting tapeworms or bots.
This isn't about "mild", this is about what kills the worms that cause problems :)
Anthelcide (oxibendazole) is like Panacur (fenbendazole) and Strongid (pyrantel pamoate) - high resistance issues in single doses. The latter 2 should be used at double doses for foals to get the ascarids (unless you know you don't have ivermectin-resistant ascarids, then you can use ivermectin to get them), and the Anthelcide should be used at a 1.5x dose.

This subject is discussed at great lengths on the Breeding forums. Specifically because Foals/weanlings are on a different schedule than yearlings and up.
If you do a search on the breeding forum you find many threads on this subject.

I rotate between Ivermectin and Panacur. The reason is that here in Alberta, Small Strongyles are resistant to Panacur and ascarids are resistant to Ivermectin and apparently most things are resistant to Strongid (in my and many other areas). I just used Panacur for the first 3 months and suddenly he was not feeling well, I had a fecal done and his strongyle count was 600! Another poster from Alberta was just using just Ivermectin and she found tons of ascarid when her foal was not doing well. It is good to know your local resistance otherwise you are wasting your time and the horse misses a month of worming.
I did some research in case it might help http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4522755#post4522755

.
Pyrantel is the same thing as Strongid. The generic vs. name brand is irrelevant. The active ingredient is the same.

Our vet has recommended the following, which is what we have been doing for several years with excellent results:
Deworm mare with Zimectrin Gold or Equimax immediately after foaling
Foal @ 30 days: Safeguard or Panacur
Foal @ 60 days: Pyrantal
Foal @ 90 days: ivermctin
Foal continues to be dewormed every 30 days until 2 years of age, then goes on same schedule as adults -- which is every 60 to 90 days, depending upon how we are rotating pastures.
Wormers are rotated - pyrantal and ivermectin, every other month.
We've had zero problems with this, and the foals/youngsters all look great.

My program is almost exactly the same but I'll use Panacur or Anthelcide as well as Strongid and Ivermectin. Agree to not count on Ivermectin as it has proven resistance to Ascarids...which are a big problem in young horses. I also give a heavier dose of Strongid and the Benzimidazole class of drugs.
