Vet suggested I started my 24 yr old gelding on a supplement for Cushings that contains chasteberry. I did and it also contains jiaogulan and some vitamins. He has always been the leader of the herd, but very kind and benign. I think I am noticing a change in behavior about 5 weeks into the supplement. He seems to have become hotter and more aggressive. Has anyone else used herbal supps for Cushings noticed any behavioral changes? If so what were the changes you saw? Thanks.

Maybe it's just because the supplement is making him feel that much better and more energized?

I have no clue about chasteberry, but I noticed a similar change in temperament in an older horse when he was first started on glucosamine - he went from being lazy to the energizer bunny in the field in just a week or two, and we figured it was because he just felt so much better.

I know Paco had a total personality change when he started to feel better.

Or maybe, it's the Cushings. My 32 yr. old gelding became a grumpy old man, even to the point of kicking me one day on purpose. And this was the kindest, most gentle, sweetest horse ever, and I'd had him since he was 3. I think behavioral changes are to be expected.
