As a general rule, you should not have to 'push hard' when giving an IV injection.

Only way I could see you pushing hard is if you are pushing a large volume of thick material through a small needle. What are you injecting?

ETA: Odd.

Anyway, for those curious, the OP was looking for words of wisdom on being new to giving IV injections. He/she was taught by her vet recently and felt like he/she had to "push hard" when injecting.

Well I don't know why you cleared your opening post, but I will respond from post 2 info. I like to use as small of needles as possible when giving IV shots, but this requires more patience from both horse and person. If you push less hard, does the flow continue at the same pace? You shouldn't be injecting at a rate faster than 1cc per second anyways, so try slowing down a bit to see if that helps. For example, if you are giving legend with a 22 gauge, you are going to feel some good pressure, especially if you are wanting to "get it over with." You should have similar "pull pressure" coming out of the vial as you do "push pressure" going into the vein, if you are at maximum on both. If you are getting good blood flow back into the syringe, and nothing moves, I would not be concerned with pressure; just take it slow and pull back a bit every 3 or 4ccs or less until you are really comfortable.
