How many milligrams do you feed a day? How big is your horse?

10,000mgs for an 1100lb and 1000lb horse. Did it work? Nope. Found out that same amount of MSM (10,000mgs) and some HA (100mgs) did work for one horse. The other just needs the MSM (again at 10,000mg dosage).

Were you feeding to prevent? Or help?

Both.
Gus was to help with arthritis. It may have helped for a few years, but after repeated stifle injuries, the glucosamine was no longer doing its job. Plus, he was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance and per my vet, she recommended discontinuing the glucosamine - only because it still is a form of glucose. Discontinued the glucosamine just under 12 months ago, horse hasn't been this sound in years (but I think that's due to a lot of other circumstances, not at all related to being on or off the glucosamine).
Gringo was on it to prevent any issues... being young (late 3 year old) when I purchased him I just had him on the same stuff for Gus. Well he ended up having a fractured coffin bone (old fracture, missed on PPE due to not doing x-rays - though nothing was ever found on the PPE) and the glucosamine did nothing for the pain he had. Stopped cause it didn't make sense to feed it after he had issues and it wasn't helping.
MSM is a good joint supp but more then anything else, it's a great (and cheap) anti-inflammatory. So, they both get that. I tried the HA on Gringo, but no improvement whereas Gus improved more with the HA.
Does that help? :)

I have Strider on a supplement including glucosamine, condroiton, collagen, ha, and vit c. He does exceptionally well on it, and it's being used for prevention, as he is in heavy work. (Foxhunting and endurance horse conditioning for 50 milers.) It works great on him, and MSM is not an option (illegal in endurance).
I also use the SmartTendon on him, as he had a small tear in a ligament a few months ago, and the vet said to keep him on it, due to U-Sound showing improvements.
Gus, my 21 yr old, however, shows no difference on it, but huge difference with MSM by itself. He's a typical Old Man creaky that acts young and dumb when he's on this, while super slow and stubborn when not. A friend's horse does best on the CortaFlx solution with HA. It depends on the horse, IMO. I'd get a month's supply of a supplement at a time and see if you really notice a difference. Take pics, video, have a horsie friend evaluate, don't tell them what you used- if anything- and re-evaluate with you at a later time.
Glucosamine is a great supplement, and if you want to help prevent anything with your horse, I's recommend using Glucosamine and Condroiton, with HA and vit C if possible.
