I just love this stallion, but I need help finding out more about his offspring. He is on my short-list, but I need a little bit more convincing that he is a good sire. Can anyone share their thoughts? :)

big fertility problems, but the babies that make it are good!

I thought it was the old extender, rather than his fertility. It is supposed to be better now. Someone I know just used 1 straw of frozen for a positive pregnancy (and live foal).

If you do a search on google, you will find lots of progeny. He truly is a great stallion.

The semen works well. He is just not for me. Don't care for the brains.

The frozen semen works well? Or the fresh semen?

DC is a nutcase and hard to ride.....

I am quite fond of this stallion as well. I never realized he was a 'nut case and hard to ride.' In the video's I've seen, he looks to be a fun ride and extremely talented. Siegi, do you have any video footage you could post that shows this type of behavior? Also the foal's I've seen have been nice and jump very well. I would put him with my Cassini mare, but would probably end up with an elephant

Kareen- I would also be interested to know more about his brain issues

He is very talented but in the videos I've seen he does seem to do a lot of bucking and ear pinning, etc. Not stuff that bothers me, but can imagine he isn't the easiest to deal with. No idea if that is passed on. A lovely horse, either way.

Mallrat, both Cassini 1 and Cento are Capitol/Caletto II. This I do not think you want to do IMHO.

Oh I would never consider Cento for my Cassini I mare (I was joking), however it has been done....Chippendale Z!

Frozen works well. I have no idea about the fresh. A colleague of mine down south has used a ton of Cento and his fertility results are excellent. They just don't last very long but if you inseminate close to ov I wouldn't expect problems.
Re. brain issues the progeny I've met were on the duller, more stupid side despite being from high quality damlines that had no rep. for producing this kind of temperament.
So unless you have a custom order from someone the caliber of Otto Becker or some other jumper big wig I'd not touch him with a barge pole. Being difficult is one thing but being a complete dumb-*** is a whole different story.
The stupidness I am talking about is the sluggish, almost autistic appearing character that will stand in crossties while getting their feet done, and stand and stand and continiously build up tension without really showing it and then explode in a suicidal, stupid way that will get them or someone else hurt. I don't mind a lively or nervous horse or one that is willful to begin with. Quite the opposite I think these are the ones that are the best if you can get them on your side.
But I certainly mind grumpy and suicidal and there is no room for that in my programme no matter how big the name is. Same holds true for the oh so hip Stakkato. Yes they jump great but remember you are only over the fence for seconds and none of it happens during their first 3-4yrs on earth...

Hahaha Kareen that explanation of his character sounds just like my gelding by Carthago Z. But he sure can jump.

The semen that I have been told worked with ONE STRAW was frozen. I just inseminated a mare with one straw (very good deal on one straw left in stock), so I'm not expecting it to work as it is quite old (old extender maybe), but I guess it is worth a gamble. Wouldn't mind buying some newer semen in the future.

An Update:

Just got a 14 day PPT using one straw (see previous post). So excited! Early days yet though. Mare is a 4 year old with Jalisco B/ Feugo Du Prelet bloodlines, and she has had one foal this season by Landor S who is an absolute stunner.

Very interesting thread -- so apparently DC is quite the success story (w/a pro ride). Have any of his produce become remotely as successful? What is the bloodlines in the pedigree that is accountable in all likelihood for the temperment issues? TIA

TKR, have a look at this website- Unless you can read French, you might want to translate it with Google.

L&L- I don't have any great pictures of him, I'll need to get out and take a few. He's about 2 months now.

The two foals in this pic are both by Landor S, filly on the left, colt on the right

If you see his scope, you can be a bit forgiving about his so called "temperment". He plays with Grand Prix fences. Breed him to a sweet mare?

To end up with something that inherits the jumping from the mare and the sweetness from papa? *lol*

B-S -- in a nutshell, where does the temperment "flaw" come from -- I have no idea how to use Google to translate.

TKR, I don't know where the temperament "flaw" comes from, maybe Kareen knows more than me?

Well, on that webpage, when you scroll down the horses below are some of his boest progeny. I don't know if you have Google translate, but go to www.google.com, search for "Stud for Life". The first one that comes up will be it, and next to it (on mine) it says "translate this page", and you click it.

I would say Capitol doesn't produce the brightest horses...

All I can tell you is the Centos I've known at foal age were predominantly overly study to the point of obnoxious and respectless. The older ones were slow learners and tended to act stupid on the ground. Definitely more on the stubborn side than I appreciate and slow to respond/react to anything. Getting a rather plain face and type isn't anything I would want to add either and most of the offspring I've encountered were clearly no improvement to their dams in that regard.

http://www.wbfsh.org/files/Jumping_rankings_final.pdf

There are about 10 offspring on the list, highest one is 500.
Are those good results? Or would you expect better out of a stallion that got that much publicity and therefore better mares?
Sincerely asking.

Maybe he is a good example of a very good or great sporthorse but not a good sire? Looking back in his pedigree (which I am sure is full of successful producers) -- did his sire and dam produce any full siblings that share his success? Are the prominent breeders in Europe using him? In looking at his produce, does any type mare or bloodlines seem to work best for him?
