Just wanted to say how very sorry to VaBred his breeder and to owner Scott Canard to hear that Foxy has gone over the rainbow bridge. I'm off to go hug and kiss all three of my Foxy children right now ;( Truly a sad loss to the pony breeding world! My heart goes out to you.

I am truly heartbroken to hear this. Last year, I sold one of his babies to a lady in CA. She called just yesterday to let me know the colt finished Champion of Zone 10 in his division for Pony Hunter Breeding with only seven shows! Then I arrive home to read this. My thoughts and prayers go out to Scott, Randee, and everyone else who Foxtrot touched their hearts and lives.

Randee is absolutely devastated, and was at the VHSA convention when she found out this morning. She had to then put on a smile, while running out to cry periodically, and act happy for Spanky's win (she WAS happy, but so overcome with grief) and just be Randee. No one loved this pony more than she did, and not only is the pony himself gone, but all that that particular breeding meant to her. She dreamed of bringing Elfin and Lustre bloodlines together, and now it is gone, and no semen was ever frozen. It is really tragic.

Additionally, as you may remember, her mom lost the only Foxtrot foal that they had this year. And none bred for next year.

I join all the others to express my heartfelt condolences to Randee and Scott. This is a great loss to the pony breeding business. I know that Jean Mounger has a young Foxtrot son she will stand at stud. Any others around?

Sandy, I have a purebred Foxtrot son. He's a 3yo and will stand at stud next year. Randee and Scott both say he looks just like his daddy. He's a dapple grey and an outrageous mover like Foxy.

I think Jean's Foxtrot son "Trotting for Gold" is amazing too. He is going to be a young stallion to watch! I'm a little biased because her stallion is half brother to my stallion "Tantallon All American" and I own their dam. The great Findeln Siren.

Randee, Love and condolences to you. I wish they could repair the hole in your heart.

It is a measure of Foxy's prepotence how many of his sons will be standing at stud. Even in his short career, he has passed on his brilliance and his genes will be carried on.

Thank you Margaret for creating this thread and for all of you posting messages.

My heart is so broken over the loss of this exquisite pony.

A little back story:

As the daughter of a long time pony breeder I've learned a little along the way and decided to try for a nice welsh. Mom has never been the pedigree afficionado that I am, nor has she ever bred full welsh ponies, so I gave it a whirl.

I was fortunate enough to happen along Hidden Creeks Elfin http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/hidden+creeks+elfin

whose pedigree was so special I knew I should be very selective when selecting a stallion. After two fabulous breedings to Smallwood Paris, I spent months and months agonizing over just the right cross and narrowed the list of five down to one - Farnley Prelude.

She didn't catch that first attempt (she was at Farnley for four months) so an entire year was lost. However the following year brought success and the resulting Foxtrot, in 2003.

Both Farnley Prelude and Elfin died in 2004, but it seemed the stars had indeed line up when Foxtrot was born.

I've had the best horsemen in this country tell me they had never seen such a mover. Unless you got to see it in person, you can only assume you know what I'm saying, but it was outrageous (in a great way).

Foxy has proven himself already in his short life and he did put some fancy, fancy sons out there, several of which have been mentioned here.

I grieve for the loss of such greatness, but more importantly the loss of this pedigree which affects much more than just me or Scott.

I question life daily and i always come up with the fact that life just isnt fair...especially when it comes to those losses in our lives...both human and animal. I was terribly shocked to see this thread. Foxy has been on the top of my list. I did try to breed my Gold Apollo (TB) daughter to him but she unfortunately was at the end of her own breeding career. What a fantastic cross that would have been! I have not yet seen a full Welsh that can really replace him in quality and movement.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the overwhelming amount of calls, etc.

Foxy was the result of a long, thought out process when I was trying to resurrect the fabulous old lines that are unfortunately leaving us. My mother (who has never bred a full welsh) was intrigued with the time and research I put into "just the right stallion" to go with my mare's pedigree.

I am fortunate to having an opportunity to *maybe* do it again with my 2010 foal out of my Farnley Prelude mare (old style welsh) and by the superstar of pony hunter stallions, Farnley Belshazzar.

Double Lustre big time and needless to say, I am hoping for a colt. :)

Edited to add: For the many who have asked, there are at least 6 or 7 uncut Foxtrot colts currently (four or five are full welsh) and hopefully more colts coming in 2010.
